Swarming Ladybugs that bite??
There are 100's of what I would call ladybugs swarming around our place and they bite. Any ideas what's going on?

Jamie

They are similar to lady bugs. We get them at harvest time. This year not so bad, but quite a few years back, these bugs were ordered to cut down on aphid damage on the soybean crops... and when the harvest comes in, so do the bugs! The Japanese beetles look just like their friendly lady parts, but bite and can make a stink in your hands, too. Some years the house is covered with them, this year we lucked out... perhaps because of an early hard frost they didn't have time to run for refuge! ??? I really don't know, but I do know that we are overrun with them some years... this year our south yard had corn growing on it, last year.. soybeans... the soybean years we get heavier bug crops!

We have so many of them that we can't even walk in or out of our house without them flying in with us. I killed so many tonight that had flown in with us that I lost count at 75. I am sure there are more too. I wish I knew how to get rid of them......They are such a nuisance!!!!

I searched on the Japanese beetles and they look quite different than what I'm seeing. I did a google on ladybugs that bite, and I found Asian Ladybugs, which are a different strain of ladybug. They hibernate in swarms of alot (the more the merrier it said), and they do bite.

That sounds familiar too. Hmmm... I just quick googled and we are both right, LOL. Asian lady beetles are also known as Japanese Lady beetles. I just forgot the "lady" part.
And swarm they will. I go out into our woods and will flip over leaves or an old fallen tree and WOW, hundreds of beetles all lying together. It's lovely though on these fall days... when it warms up again you think... Oh I can enjoy one more day outside... NOT! The bugs are so thick, no picnics, no sitting in the warm sun for soon they are in your hair and crawling into your clothing... ICK! LOL We tried a picnic one year, despite the crazy thick bugs and my daughter actually ate one in her food... or rather crunched it... it came out soon after that. NO more fall parties outside!

Our lovely USDA imported these nasty critters to eat soybean aphids. When the soybeans come down they have no place to go but into your home!
And yes, they bite.

Oh, that's gross Melissa (about the bug getting eaten), your poor daughter.
I never knew there was another kind of ladybug. I don't like this kind.
