Living the Simple Life

Suday Afternoon September 14, 2008

Good Afternoon, it is a rainy cool day here in Illinois as we are feeling the effects of what is left of Hurricane Ike. We have gotten about 6 inches of rain so far but the skies are starting to lighten up so I have hopes the rain may stop soon. We are flooded in on one side, we can still  et out through the timber but it is not a trip I like to make, so I guess I will be home bound for a couple of days; not that I mind!

My thoughts and prayers are those to the south that have been hit by Hurricane Ike and all of the devastation and losses that have are now dealing with. Mother Nature is one of the forces we cannot control but that does not make the loss of homes, jobs and sometime lives any easier to accept.

This past week was taken up by pears, peaches, and apples topped off by carrots, the harvest is coming to an end soon here but it has been a very productive harvest this year and we have a lot to be thankful for. Our pantry is just about full and the freezers will be as soon as we take the hogs and cattle into town for processing. My husband and so in law have plenty of wood, cut, stacked and split and the outside wood burner and the corn stoves have had a through cleaning. It’s just about time to put the gardens to bed for winter and sit back and enjoy the fruits of out labors.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening

Preparedness, when properly pursued, is a way of life, not a sudden, spectacular program. -- Spencer W. Kimball, 1976
