~Happy Independence Day 2007~

Posted on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at 5:58 AM

This day is so very special to me...the day we celebrate our nation's freedom, her birth, and the joys we have in this.  This is a day of celebration, a day to rejoice, and a day to be in thankfulness to our Lord for all that He has allowed us to experience.

Please remember our soldiers today as you are celebrating.  They are continuing to fight to preserve the freedom that we have, and to try to bring freedom to other nations that have been oppressed and persecuted for many, many years.

But most of all, remember to thank God for the freedom that you have.  The freedom to serve Him, the freedom to worship Him, the freedom to be an individual as He would have you to be.  Ask Him to provide safety and security to our soldiers and our nation, wisdom and guidance to our leaders, and the continuation of our freedom for our children, and our children's children.

Give someone a hug today-you have the freedom to do that!  Be glad!  Spend time with those you love, and also reach out a helping hand to those less fortunate than you are.  Be a vessel for the Lord to use to show them love, mercy, and the freedom in Christ Jesus.

God Bless America!

Hugs,

Cynthia Robin

The Hunger Site

Posted on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 3:30 PM

The Hunger Site

Dearest Readers,

I was referred to this site today, and have found it to be a worthwhile and honorable charity.  That is a rare commodity in this day and age, and this group is worth visiting daily.  It doesn't cost you anything, just click on the button.  Nothing bad will happen - only good - you will be providing food for those who need it desperately!  Won't you join with me in doing just this small part in helping another by showing our love as our Lord had given us command to do?

Thank you!

Cynthia Robin

About The Hunger Site

The Hunger Site was founded to focus the power of the Internet on a specific humanitarian need: the eradication of world hunger. Since its launch in June 1999, the site has established itself as a leader in online activism, helping to feed the world's hungry. On average, over 220,000 individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the yellow "Help Feed The Hungry" button. To date, more than 200 million visitors have given more than 300 million cups of staple food.

The staple food funded by clicks at The Hunger Site is paid for by site sponsors and distributed to those in need by Mercy Corps and America's Second Harvest. 100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners. Funds are split between these organizations and go to the aid of hungry people in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.

All of us here at The Hunger Site are also deeply moved by the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Learn how you can help!

Hunger: Do You Know The Facts?

It is estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That's roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year.

About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is down from 35,000 ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.

Famine and wars cause about 10% of hunger deaths, although these tend to be the ones you hear about most often. The majority of hunger deaths are caused by chronic malnutrition. Families facing extreme poverty are simply unable to get enough food to eat.

The Hunger Site began on June 1, 1999. In 1999, a year marked by good economic news, 31 million Americans were food insecure, meaning they were either hungry or unsure of where their next meal would come from. Of these Americans, 12 million were children.

How You Can Help In Mere Seconds — Every Day

The Hunger Site provides a feel-good way to help promote awareness and prevent hunger deaths every day — through easy and quick online activities.

With a simple, daily click of the yellow "Help Feed The Hungry" button at The Hunger Site, visitors help provide food to those in need. Visitors pay nothing. Food is paid for by the site's sponsors and distributed by Mercy Corps worldwide and by America’s Second Harvest to food banks throughout the United States.

Please remember to click every day to give help and hope to those most in need. Every click counts in the life of a hungry person.

You Can Help Even More

In addition to clicking the yellow "Help Feed The Hungry" button, visitors can help more by shopping in The Hunger Site store. With each item purchased, shoppers generate funds for the hungry. The store offers a wide array of items to show your support as well as fair-traded and handcrafted items from around the world that help families and communities pull themselves out of the poverty and hunger cycle.

Happy Mother's Day 2007

Posted on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 6:23 AM

Motherhood is the greatest calling any woman can have, and it pleases me that our country has set aside this one day of the year to honor the women who are called "Mother".  Whether the child or children you care for, love, cherish, and nurture are the fruit of your own womb, or whether they were brought here through the womb of another dear lady, you are to be honored and commended for the wonderful calling upon your life.

So many single mothers are pulled here and there, trying to raise their children, take care of their home, and also support their family.  Let us all join together in one accord in this special calling.  If you know a mother who is having difficulties, lend a helping hand to her.  Help her with childcare in a godly home, help her with the grocery or electric bill, fill up her car with gas, or help her with cleaning her home.  Fix a few casseroles and freeze them, and then take them to her with written instructions for preparation in the oven.  Fix a special dessert and drop it by her home.  Call her and ask if you can drop in for an impromptu visit, and take the fixings for Tea Time with you.  Take your children over and sit outside with her while the children all play together.  Just a brief respite from the cares of daily living can mean so much to a single mother!

May you all be blessed for your faithfulness to God, to your families, and to each other on this day set aside to honor you.  I pray our Lord heaps His blessings and abundance upon you this day!

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.  Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

              ~Proverbs 31:20-31 New International Version

My *Unique* Day!

Posted on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 7:53 PM

Today was such a *unique* sort of day.  It began when I awoke at 5 a.m. to discover the electricity was out.  I made my way down the stairs, found the flashlight, found the outage reporting number for the electric company, and made my way back up the stairs to call them (the downstairs phone is cordless and doesn't work when the electric is out).  After working my way through the wonderful system of pushing buttons for the English language, another button to report a power outage, another button to talk to give my phone number and on and on....I finally got to talk to a very nice lady!  She let me know there was a line fuse out and they estimated it to be restored by 9:30 a.m.  Well.  Made it a bit difficult to have my morning coffee!

Never fear, I always say!  I had not washed out the thermal carafe I put my coffee in after perking it yesterday (hey, I was glad I had forgotten to do that!), and there was still half a cup of lukewarm coffee in it!  Hallelujah!  LOL

I lit the oil lamp, and moved on to having my morning devotions.  Oh, my!  How lovely that was!  I had opened the windows in the front and back storm doors, and there was such a lovely, fresh breeze coming in as I studied God's Word.  Refreshment for my spiritual and physical self!  Not having electricity made it difficult to play my praise and worship music, but I'm sure my Lord found my off-tune acapella voice pleasurable to His ears, anyhow.

A shower was accomplished with turning my flashlight toward the shower curtain and setting it upright in the basket I keep the washcloths in.  Hey, it worked.  Where there's a will, there's a way!  And I will not begin my day without my shower!

I called my daycare client who was due at 7:30 to ask if she had any of her morning coffee left, and explained the situation to her.  She stopped at BK and picked me up a large cup (very large!), and I was ever so thankful!

Well, we spent the whole morning in the backyard, and had a blast!  The electricity wasn't restored until 12:30 p.m., which I kind of figured would happen.  While we were out back the repairmen were working about a 1/2 block away and we heard what sounded like a very loud shotgun blast.  They all scattered and I just had this funny feeling that meant a longer delay.  Apparently I was right!  Lunch ended up being pb&j's and chips.  The parents have forgiven me for their children's poor nutrition today, being very understanding of the situation.

After the electric came back on, little Andrew took a nap (the others had left), and there was a knock on the door.  I had just fixed my long-awaited pot of coffee (BK just does NOT have good coffee, to my taste preferences anyhow, but I was thankful for it this morn!), and as it was brewing I answered the door.  There were 2 gentlemen standing there talking about trying to win a trip to Cancun selling magazines.  They asked if they could come in, and being as hot as it was outside, I understood why they made their request.  Well, everyone always heads to my kitchen, and these men were no exception.  I explained I didn't think I would be able to order any magazines, and they asked if I could fix them a pb&j and a glass of milk as they were very hungry.  Okay...not a problem.  I fixed them their sandwiches and milk, and they acted like they were manna from the Lord!  They thanked me for the food and as they headed for the front door, the older one (mid-30's), saw my sofa and asked if they could just rest a moment as they were very tired.  And then he laid down on it!  The younger one (mid-20's) sat in the easy chair and laid his head back.  They asked if I would wake them in about 20 minutes.  Okay....this was getting strange.  I kept my eye on them as I poured my long-awaited cup of joe, and as I was doing so the scripture came to mind about entertaining angels unaware.  And then the passage about Elijah and the widow woman followed in my mind, and I felt a bit better.  I still didn't let my guard down, but there were no problems.  They didn't seem to be "casing" my home (there's not much to steal - I live a very simple life), nor did they act strange at all.  Just like two gentlemen needing a short respite in a home filled with peace and hospitality.  And that's what they received.  Twenty minutes later as I was about to awaken them, the phone rang and woke them and they thanked me for my hospitality and left.  Hmmm.

Now, many would be a nervous wreck after such an encounter in today's world.  But I'm not.  My home is blessed, and I'm blessed, and I truly believe that either it was all very innocent, or perhaps they were angels being entertained for a reason.  Perhaps I'll never know the truth of the whole matter, and that's okay.  As long as they were blessed and felt the love of the Lord, that's all I care about.  The rest is up to God.  We plant seeds where He leads, and then He takes care of the watering and feeding!

This evening my youngest son took me to the store, and now I'm downloading 24 hours worth of email (about 150).  Soon I will have my evening devotion, evening shower, and then retire to my waiting bed to rest up for what the Lord brings my way tomorrow.  I wonder how He'll use me to bless someone and what I can do for Him tomorrow?

What ways has He used you today?  We must keep our hearts and minds ever ready for any opportunity He presents us with to glorify and honor Him, and spread His precious gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ.  That's our whole purpose on this earth.  No matter what our specific ministry is, we are all to be ambassadors for Christ.  So please, dear one, keep your eyes on the Lord, fill yourself with His Word, and be diligent in serving Him every day.

Hugs,

Cynthia Robin

I Random Buttoned Today!

Posted on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 2:05 PM

I was truly blessed this day!  While visiting the Home Made Simplicity blog (the link is listed under Friends in my sidebar), I hit the random button (top right hand corner of all homestead blogger blogs), and was privileged to *meet* Home Spun Rose

She's a lovely young lady who is beginning her own business making crocheted purses (soon to be available online!), and is also learning to make beaded socks.  She had posted pictures of her work, and she is extraordinary!

I urge you to go visit her today, and also to hit the Random Blog button at the top right hand corner of our blogs here at Homestead Blogger.  We have such wonderful and talented bloggers here, and I've been blessed by all I've visited!  It's always nice when one leaves comments to bless us with, so be sure to tell them how much you've enjoyed what they have said!

I hope you're having a lovely day....

Hugs,

Cynthia Robin

ACT NOW!

Help save the institution of marriage as the union of a man and a woman!

The Marriage Protection Amendment will do just that, but it needs your help to get it passed.  It is scheduled to be voted on in the U.S. Senate the week of June 5, 2006, and it will only pass if millions of Americans make it clear they support traditional marriage.

Write your Senator(s) and ask him/her to support S.J. Res. 1, the Marriage Protection Amendment.  Elected officials are very sensitive, especially during an election year, to the popular desires of their constituencies.

Please take a few minutes and send a short note or postcard via snail mail (email will work, too!), and please pray for this!

You can find the names and contact information of your State Senator(s) by clicking on this link:

Senators Contact Information

On the postcard, please write your full name and address.  Here is a sample of what to say:

Dear Senator,

Marriage has historically been the union of one man and one woman.  It's benefits for children and for society are incalculable.  Protecting traditional marriage is not rooted in discrimination - as some might try to convince you.  It is rooted in common sense, for the common good.  For marriage to flourish in our culture, it must be protected from redefinition.

Therefore, as your constituent, I respectfully request that you support S.J. Res. 1, the Marriage Protection Amendment, and that you support all procedural measures to bring the amendment to a floor vote.

Sincerely,

(Your Full Name)

(Your Full Address, including zip code)

Don't forget to address the card (contact information available by clicking link above), affix the proper postage, and mail it right away.

Please include this in your daily prayers.

Thank you for taking action and supporting traditional marriage!

Be blessed this day!

Hugs,

Cynthia Robin

Women of Simplicity

Posted on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 9:43 PM

I belong to a lovely group of Christian women online called Women of Simplicity.  This is a group owned and run by Peggy Hostetler, and has proven to be a true blessing to me.

To learn more about dearest Peggy, and our group, you can visit her website at:

Women of Simplicity

Here you will find encouragement, exhortation, wisdom, and blessing.  Peggy shares about herself, her family, her life, her blog, and her online avenues of encouragement to the Christian woman.

The motto of Women of Simplicity group is *Encouraging Christian Women to Simplify*, and this is exactly what we do.  Our group is learning from each other how to simplify our lives to be a blessing to our Lord and better serve Him, how to be a better helpmeet to our husbands (or future husbands for those of us that are unmarried), how to teach and train up our children, new recipes, homemaking encouragement, and ever so much more.

For example, each week we share a different topic for discussion, in addition to our usual conversations.  This week we are sharing our Homekeeping Schedules, using those from Laura Ingalls Wilder as an example. Such as, Monday-Wash Day, Tuesday-Ironing, etc.  This has been a real encouragement to me, and everyone else.

Won't you stop by Peggy's site and consider joining our wonderful group?  I'm looking forward to *seeing* you there!

Be blessed this day!

Hugs,

Cynthia Robin
