The long months of winter just seem to bring out the nostalgia in me. Although this season hasn't really been much of a winter, per se, I still have this sense of a time to sort through my things and take a Trip Down Memory Lane (some folks call it decluttering, but I find that a harsh word for items so dear to me). I have so many odds and ends from my lifetime, and from both of my mothers as well (I was adopted when very young).
As I come upon each of my *treasures*, I set them out in plain view for a few days. Every time I gaze upon them, new memories seem to come to mind. I am journalling about each item, recording my precious memories as well as I can recall them. Then I take a picture of the item. A few days later, after I'm sure I've remembered all I can about it, I find my treasure a new home. Perhaps to a new mother, or a dear friend, or my son here in town. Some of these things are paper - cards and letters sent from one family member to another. I journal about my sweetest and fondest memories of this dear one, and try to find a picture of the person. Once I have all of my film developed, I will post the pictures with their corresponding journalling pages. If it's a card or something, I may actually include it instead of a picture. I'll just have to wait and see how it works out. This is proving to be a lovely way of bringing order to my home before the big Spring Cleaning & Blessing Time, and also will leave my precious memories for the next generation.
I'm very new to scrapbooking, but thanks to some dear ladies on my Clean & Cozy Home group, I'm ready to give it a try. My first endeavour will be a Tea Time scrap book. I always thought scrapping was just a picture album made fancy. But they have shown me that it is ever so much more! My Tea Time scrap book will have delicious TNT (Tried-N-True) recipes that I use during my own tea time, and I'm sure I'll have some pictures, as well. I'm looking forward to going to the craft store and seeing all the different papers and supplies I can find for this! How much fun it will be! Another legacy for the next generation.
I am also working on a Family Cookbook. Now, I'm in the midst of working on one for publication, but this one will be my family's favorites. Our special meals, holidays, etc. will all find their way into this book. Just one more part of my legacy for my next generation.
I'm also thinking of starting a Hope Chest for my granddaughter. She's becoming ever so much like me, and has a great appreciation for handmade items. She's only 3, but has shown me much talent for choosing fabrics, coordinating colors and patterns, and is learning the fine art of Homemaking from me. I want to begin teaching her to sew and do fine needlework, but may begin making some things for her now. By the time she's an adult, I may not be on this earth any longer, and I know she would treasure what I've made just for her. Just one more part of my legacy for the next generation.

I love scrapbooking! and as you said it is something more than just a fancy picture album! I love the ideas of journaling and taking pictures of nostagia things before finding them a new home!

What a wonderful legacy you are passing along to your following generation! I believe it is never too early to start training and leaving imprints of love on our children...and a love of the past is such an important gift to share!
