Today soon I'll be leaving to work at the thrift store. I didn't have time for my Bible study because I watered outside then came in and got on the computer - I need to keep with my rule not to turn on the computer until noon. It can certainly overpower everything else! ![]() A high school classmate is trying to get all 23 (or less - some passed away) of our class of '69 to share their lives. One guy would like to have a 50th reunion - in 10 years that just may happen if we start now. Our class was rather lopsided with about 7 boys and 16 girls. my home town - Main St. ![]() | 0 comments | Link Monday, June 29, 2009Summer is here!Well it has been a looooong time since I have written!! Life sure seems to get in the way sometimes. It is summer here in Kansas for sure. The past week we had temps in the 90's with heat index in the 100's! We did get a break from the heat Sat and Sun evenings, however it still gets hot during the day. We had so much rain in the spring that I was unable to get my garden plot worked up in time to plant. I am really missing having a vegitable garden!! Been going to the Farmers Market every Sat. My daughter-in-law and I bought some wonderful Georga peaches last Sat. Instead of making a pie, I decided to make a peach cobler, it turned out really yummy! Was going to take a picture of it, but it didn't last long enough! We bought gooseberries too, that will go into a pie for the 4th of July picnic. My flowers have really been pretty so far. I love sunflowers, it is our state flower, and the ones that just came up under the bird feeder are blooming and beautiful. I plan on drying the large ones and save the seeds for the birds this fall. I have been listing items on my Etsy shop. Have sold some items so now am busy making new tea cozy's to relist. A friend of mine gave me a new apron pattern that I am anxious to get made up, it is really cute! Hope to get it listed by the end of this week. Now I have all day to do whatever I like - which is laundry, organize bookshelves, fix food, clean, etc. etc. On way home I dropped some things off at a thrift store and went in to shop. I got 2 of those necklace trees which I've been wanting for a while, also I got 2 of the heavy things you put on the floor in front of an outside door to keep the cold out. They are like little cows with a ringing bell and new. One will be for a wedding present for my niece who will be tying the knot in Aug. 8. On Sunday we had a home tour of family places, some with houses still there, some not, some had been moved to another location. Here is my grandparent's place, old and new. Other people own it now. ![]() ![]() They made a really nice hobby farm out of it, with calves, sheep, goats and horses. Didn't see any chickens. Of course lots of kitties.
This house my great Uncle Jesse lived for 70 years, until he died of cancer. Aunt Mildred lived there another 20+ years; she died of cancer this last March. Now they are getting it ready to sell. I always saw it like this. ![]() Walking around the house you can see the different add-ons. The original house was the one on the left, the 3rd section to the left. My great-grandparents bought that and then built on. They raised 8 children here, plus my grandma was the oldest and my mom is 2 months older than her aunt, great-grandma's last child.
![]() Where I grew up from age 7-18. The house is not there, sadly, and now someone farms it and put cattle in here. | 3 comments | Link Monday, June 22, 2009Father's Day = Cleaning Day! LOLThere are several rooms in the house I have been decluttering lately and our bedroom was next on the list. Oh how I dreaded it. Our bedroom is medium sized and has a bed, 2 dressers, 2 night stands, a computer desk, and my sewing table and crafty items in it. It makes for a crowded bedroom for sure!! So when Matthew offered to help me declutter and reorganize, I jumped at the offer. LOL I hate doing big jobs like that by myself, and being able to do it with someone else to talk to makes things go faster, easier and it is more pleasant. Our closet was crammed full and the bedroom was cluttered (I like to store items under the dressers, and the bed also, but not anymore! There were all types of things under there I had stored and forgotten about!) so that was a huge job in itself!! But the bedroom is mostly decluttered and after cleaning out my closet and storing some winter clothing items elsewhere, I was able to put all my crafting supplies, fabric, etc. in my closet on the shelves above the hanging clothes, and a large rubbermaid tote on the floor of the closet. I feel like I have claimed by bedroom back from the crafty nightmare! LOL Matthew helped out by taking items upstairs for the sale, and donations to the Thrift shop to my car, etc. He was in and out at times empyting the trash can for me, gathering cleaning supplies for me, as well as blowing up Noah's pool, filling it with water, and burning trash. I am proud to say most of it is done!!! I had some items last night I wasn't sure what to do with, so they are on the dresser to put away today, as well as a few items such as my sewing box, and a few other miscellaneous crafty items on the sewing desk that need to be put away today. Today's chores are to clean the living room and dining room, as well as finishing up the bedroom as I have mentioned and then dust, windex, and vacuum all three. I also have one load of laundry to get done that I didn't have time to get caught up this weekend, and some dishes. UGH!!! DISHES!!!!! Hubby is going to look at Lowe's today for a piece to fix my dishwasher. I miss it terribly!! I absolutely hate doing dishes by hand. LMSO All in all, we had a good weekend and a wonderful Father's Day with dad at home!!! In betweeen cleaning and decluttering, we still had time to eat pizza as a family, play outside in Noah's little pool, and have some cuddle and movie time watching Noah's favoritie movies this Sunday. LOL Matthew wants me to make a pot of chilli. IT IS BLAZING HOT HERE!! What is he thinking???? He wants to take the leftovers in his lunch this week. So I might just make some baked potatoes tonight and everyone can top them however they way. Which means we will have some fresh chilli to top them with if anyone wants.
