Such a good soaping Saturday!!!

Posted in SOAP

Today was so nice temperature-wise  and was very enjoyable work-wise, too.  DH worked in his shop all day and also sold one pup this afternoon.    Some people came from St. Louis with their two boys and picked out their favorite.  The mom wanted a different one but they took the one the kids wanted.

I was able to spend all the time between meals today making homemade soap. What fun!    I did do one load of laundry that I had left from this week.  I made five 7-pound batches of soap.  I made two plain; one with goat milk and ingredients that is good for rashes; one goat milk with apple juice, sauce and pie spices to portray "apple pie with ice cream on top";  and one goat milk with lavender essential oil with purple pigment swirled into it.  I  it!!!  SO MUCH FUN!!!

Tomorrow is my mom's birthday and we are going to her house in the afternoon.  I'm taking a chocolate buttermilk sheet cake and ice cream and my daughters will be there, too.  She turns 86 and is in great health -- she is on no prescription medications.  I hope to be so blessed.   She has been wanting a paper shredder so that is what I got for her for her birthday.  When a person is that age, they pretty much have everything they need, you know?  The main 'present' will be that we get to spend time together as a family!

God's Blessings,

Rita Jo

HOT in central MO and soap batches, here I come!!!

Posted in SOAP

Good Morning, fellow Bloggers,

Wow, it is gearing up to be a HOT  one again here in good ole central Missouri today.  We have lucked out so far this summer, though, in that it has waited until AUGUST to kick the temp and humidity up to what this gal considers nearly miserable.  When heat indexes exceed 100°, it's HOT!   Many years the inferno started in June and then it seemed we didn't even have a Spring -- it went from ice to blazing!  Whew!  SO ... I am very thankful for the respite this year!    Since it is now August (where has the time gone?) one expects it to be hot in Missouri.

We enjoyed an extra special breakfast this morning of whole wheat apple and cinnamon pancakes (fritters,) real maple syrup and some of our home-butchered bacon.  As the day goes on and it gets hotter, only cold foods sound good to me.  I made some jello with fruit yesterday evening so we would have it today to enjoy.  We all like it during hot weather.  I made two packages -- one orange and one peach and then I put pears and mandarin oranges in it.  We are having egg-salad sandwiches and tortilla chips for lunch.  I have salmon coquettes (patties) planned for dinner, accompanied by potatoes cooked in some leftover brown beans.  We'll also have a wilted garden salad and some homemade rolls.

I"m mixing up a few batches of soap this afternoon.  I need to replenish my stock of plain and also plain goat milk.  I have a 'fun' batch of apricot poppyseed to make and also an apple one that I will swirl (red and yellow) in my round PVC molds.  I need to have plenty on hand for a huge craft show I will be doing on Oct. 4th.  It is the Old Tyme Apple Festival in Versailles, MO.  It draws a huge crowd and Dennis (DH) and I are looking forward to it.  My 2nd daughter doesn't live too terribly far from there, so she will probably be there to help out in the booth, too.  SO ... I can't stay on here long as I need to get started on my projects.   I'm enjoying another cup of coffee as I write on the computer!   ... it's iced, though!  ha!

We wormed and gave shots to our Shepherd pups earlier this morning.  This is a job as they are much livelier than they were during their last round of treatment.  They are just SO cute.  We need to get them sold, though.  We have sold several.  I'm attaching a picture in a separate listing.

Well, off to my soaping!  Have a wonderful Saturday!

God's Blessings,

Rita Jo :-)
