A Mother's Heart

In The Beginning.....or, How I Met My Husand

After graduating college in the spring of 1999, I found myself wondering, "What next?"  The MANY resumes I sent out were producing zero results, and the MANY graduate schools I applied to sent MANY "Thanks, but no thanks" letters.  The one school that accepted me was not the most desirable one, and I decided that some other plan should be made.

A friend from college had moved to NYC to pursue acting, and needed a roommate.  Well, this small town girl packed up and moved over 1000 miles to the big city!  I'm sure when my parents drove me up to that apartment in Staten Island, they were shaking in their shoes, but they were both troopers and held their tongues!

The very next Sunday, My friend took me to the church in Manhattan that she had been attending.  We went to the young singles bible study, and who should I see across the room, but a young, quiet, handsome guy with a baby face looking back at me.  Hmmm......

Just one more week after that, and my friend persuaded me to go on a retreat with the singles group.  My future husband went, too, and we talked and talked. It turned out he was a NYC police officer.  Quite unbelievable, as he was very quiet and calm.

As the days went on, we started dating and fell in love.  New York is the most wonderful city in which to fall in love!  So many wonderful things to do, and see.  So many great places to eat.  And most of all, such a wonderful group of young Christian friends, almost all new to the city, just starting out in life, fun, excited, adventurous!

We certainly had our troubles.  He was the first guy I had ever dated, and I know I made a lot of mistakes.  But, we weathered them all and on a trip home with me to meet my family, he proposed.  He's from NJ, and he says that when I said I wanted to go to NJ with him to meet his family, he knew I was the one!

We were married in my hometown, exactly 3 years after we met.

I never thought it would happen to me, but I'm so thrilled to be married to such a wonderful man!

My Husband

My loving husband, my best friend, patient, kind, a man of upstanding character.  Such a gift from the Lord.  A wonderful father, provider, and friend in this journey of life.

Psalm 92: 1-5

It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.  For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.  How great are your works, O Lord, how profound your thoughts!
