Who is doing the listening?

In my little job here at the hotel, I run into an alarming number of folks who are greatly interested in talking, but not at all interested in listening.  Have you met people like that?  My guess is, yes, many.

Where are all the listeners?  And how is it that these "talkers" somehow think that you are vastly interested in every word they have to say?  Do they think that highly of themselves?

My guess is that they think of themselves, and it stops there.  The only thing they do when you are talking (if they let you get a word in) is formulate their next sentence.

I want to be a listener!!

I am a talker. I want to be a listener, but it seems like everything that someone says reminds me of something that I need to tell them.

I am always worried that people are bugged when I leave because I monopolized the conversation! I will keep on working on it.

I just wanted you to know that lots of talkers really do try not to. It's bad training, I guess LOL

Talker, party of one!

As I grow older, I can "hear" myself jabbering......and can dial it down or turn it off all together.
You can learn SO MUCH about a person when you 'listen'. And so much about you is revealed when all you do is talk.

I am trying so hard to train the kids in this area.....and I do have one 'talker'. Wow. Hard stuff.

Someone recently pointed out to me that my good listening skills are likely an attraction for "talkers" who just want a sounding board. Anyway, my great-Uncle used to say, "an empty barrel makes a lot of noise."
