• 2006-Mar-5 - What can I do with flaxseed?

Hi, ya'll! I just ground up some flaxseed for the first time and I am looking for ways to use it in cooking. I need some recipes for it other than in bread recipes. Right now, I am cutting out bread in my diet. I did put a T. in my orange juice and then I tried putting some in the homemade soup I made.

So, is that all I can do with flaxseed right now?

Also, who out there has some awesome salad and soup recipes?? I am needing some variety in my menu plan? In Paraguay, I have all kinds of fresh veggies available to me. What are YOUR FAVORITE recipes?

Ok, guys, I am ready to listen to YOU.

Your friend, Kimberly

I sprinkle it on yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, rice and salads. It is best raw, so I don't bake with it. Try not to grind up more than you need as it goes rancid pretty quick.. :) Crystal :)

Hello!
I, too, add it to oatmeal often. I disagree about baking with it; I love to. I have a yummy muffin recipe with apples & flax & I love it in my wheat bread; I think it adds a great nutty flavor.
Hope that helps.

I have ONLY baked/cooked w/it (I put it in pancakes).
And I've had it for a LONG time. How do you know if it goes rancid and how on earth did you grind it? I tried in my food processor and it didn't work at all!

We substitue a fourth to a half of a cup when a recipe calls for flour, I sprinkle it on a spoon of peanut butter, sprinkle it on yogurt, add it to smoothies or milk shakes, add it to orange juice, muffins, anything, be creative!

Hi, I only have had it in a pill form but I hear everyone telling me it is great on salads.

our favorite salad right now is cut up apples and blue cheese...that's all but it's simple and delicious. flaxseed could also be added for crunch, flavor and medicinal properties. I also like sliced oranges with an orange poppy seed dressing. Use the juice from the oranges, mix with a tiny bit of honey, add poppy seeds and pour over oranges and almond slices.

Bloom where you're planted and God's blessings on you, yours and the work of your hands.

I often bake using flaxseed instead of eggs. I add about 2 Tablespoons per egg to the liquid in the recipe. Works well in cornbread and muffins, cookies too.
