shopping and pizza

Today was grocery shopping day, which is always my favorite part of the week!  Yesterday at work, I had gotten Cameron some Pull-Ups.  He only wears them at night, so they last a pretty long time.  If they are dry in the morning, he wears them a second time.  They are priced pretty good at work--$11.25 for a big box of them with a free pack of wipes--but they were buy 1 get 1 free!!  2 big boxes with free wipes for $11.25!!  I also got a pack of lollipops at work for 75 cents.  Today at the grocery store, I budgeted $50 for myself.  I usually do $60, but I had spent $12.  But I only spent $28!!  I got a lot of stuff for that $28, too!  I got 3 gallons of milk, a quart of organic soymilk, a whole chicken, 2 loaves of bread, a box of frozen fish fillets, 6 tubes of toothpaste, a toothbrush, a pack of pull-ups for Emily, 6 bottles of hairspray (that should last a while), a bag of grapes, a head of lettuce, a tomato, a bag of shredded cheese, another bag of lollipops... I think that's all, but I threw my reciept away, so I don't remember.  I usually use my debit card at the store, but I've been taking cash lately and I think I'm going to keep doing it that way.  When you take cash, you really have to be careful and budget.  You can't throw a bunch of extra stuff into your cart.  I used to do that, thinking that it was ok because I was using my debit card, and before I knew it I was spending a lot more than I wanted to.  I still go through the discount carts, though because you never know what you will get free or really cheap.  I rented 2 movies that Dave wanted to see.  He's watching 1 of them right now--Jarhead.  That's not my type of movie.  I also rented Walk the Line.  When he found out that I was way under my budget, he asked if he could go get a chef salad from Sheetz for lunch.  Of course that was ok with me because I love their subs.

I have my second load of laundry in now, and I'm going to start supper as soon as I'm done here.  I'm making pizza tonight with all my really cheap shredded cheese from last week, plus the can of pizza sauce I got in the discount cart.  My pizza dough recipe:

Thick and Chewy Pizza Dough

1/2-3/4 cup warm water

2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

2 cups flour

1 tablespoon oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

Combine 1/4 cup water and the yeast and sugar.  Stir to dissolve the yeast and let stand until bubbly, about 5 minutes.  Combine flour, oil and salt.  Stir.  Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir until well blended.  Slowly add enough of the remaining water until the dough forms a ball.  Knead.  Put the dough ball onto a large cookie sheet.  Cover with plastic wrap and let stand 10 minutes.  Pat dough so that it covers the pan, leaving a ridge on the edges.  Spread with sauce, cheese and toppings.  Bake at 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

That recipe originally came from the Tightwad Gazette, but I tweaked it a little.  I think she made hers in her food processor.  I don't have one big enough to handle all that dough, so I do it by hand.  I could use my mixer, I just never think about it until it is too late.  I have a big Kitchen Aid mixer.  I usually use white flour, but I think I'm going to try adding a little wheat flour tonight, just to see if anyone notices.  Sometimes I add a whole tablespoon of yeast.  Last time I made it, I put some garlic powder in too, and it was good.

I also made baby wipes today--Emily still uses them.  I take the select-a-size paper towels, and rip them off the roll.  I put them in an old wipes container.  Then I boil 2 cups (I don't measure) of water, then squirt in some baby bath and baby lotion.  I don't measure that either.  I mix it until the lotion has dissolved, the pour it over the paper towels.  That's it!

In the mail I got a Christian CD, a Christian book, a box of candy bars to share (for a survey), and some makeup samples.  My mom gave me a phone card she had gotten free!!  Dave uses them if he needs to call home from work.

Ok, I am going to go make some pizza now!!
