Wishful Homesteader

Well, the nothing that I was planning on doing today didn't get done.  It wouldn't have really been nothing, just something that I wanted to do.  Something like sewing, reading, or maybe writing down some recipes.  My mom and I went shopping with Emily this morning.  I got a few good deals.  I had won a coupon for a FREE Glade Plug-Ins and a coupon for a FREE Edy's ice cream product, so I got those, plus there was a sale on toothpaste.  Colgate was $1 a tube, and I had 50-cent coupons that doubled, so FREE toothpaste!  I got some other things I needed for the week as well.  We went to Zimmerman's Bulk Grocery, which is a Mennonite bulk store.  I got all new spices and herbs.  Mine were 2 or 3 years old, so I wanted to replace them.  We got home a little early, so I spent a few hours cleaning and re-organizing my spice cupboard.  Then I spent a few hours weeding.  What I thought were really tall weeds at the end of my garden turned out to be tomato plants!  I had a few tomatoes last year with blossom end rot, and I threw them at that end of the garden.  Dave tilled them in, and now the seeds are growing.  It is kind of shady at that end, but I am going to let them go to see if they do anything...  I didn't get finished weeding the garden.  It was time to start supper and I was tired of weeding anyway.  I think if I spend another hour or 2 in the garden it will be done.  My tomato plants are starting to get blossoms on them, almost ALL of my potatoes came up, and everything else is growing pretty good.

     For supper I made roasted chicken and potatoes, cauliflower, and I made strawberry shortcakes with ice cream for dessert.  Some of the strawberries came out of my strawberry patch, and my mom went picking this afternoon and she brought me some more.  It was so yummy!  I did some dishes while supper was cooking, and I balanced the checkbook and got all the bills paid.  After supper I packed Dave's and my lunches, and as a surprise, I made Dave a strawberry shortcake to eat at work!! 

     Maybe tonight after I water the garden I will write down some recipes.  Then I can say I am doing nothing.  I borrowed a lot of cookbooks from my mom.  She has them in her attic.  When I am done with them, I will take them back to her and get some more.  I can't wait to try something new!
