Hay day!!

11:04, Thursday, June 8, 2006 .. 2 comments .. Link

I mowed so much hay today I am sure I will be dreaming about it.  Hubby and the neighbors started chopping hay (the neighbors are buying it from us).  They will continue doing it tomorrow.  Hubby said it better get started right after our breakfast or it will get too dry.

I still have not made it to town.  Seems in the summer you have to wait for a rainy day to go to town.

I picked up the floors some and my dishes even look pretty good.  I am happiest when my table and counter tops are clean and clear.  When you accomplish that, the rest seems to fall into place.

Everyone else went to bed.  Boy3 and daughter probably will not go to sleep without me (unless they are totally tired).  And yes they still sleep in our room.  But with child number 5 on the way, we told boy3 he just might have to graduate.

I better get to bed.  I am pretty tired.  My neck is bothering me.  I do so need the chiropractor.

Oh yeah, you can see a picture of the doll sets I sell by looking at the picture you see in my profile.  They were my idea but I had to get them made in China because of lack of finding a place here.

Anyway, I am signing off for now.  Really tired.

Blessings on your night

Work has to get done anyway!

Hi all,

I was a naughty lady.  I stayed up too late with my nose in a book.  So I payed the price today.

Hubby wanted hay mowed so I was out right after breakfast mowing 28 windrows.  He told me we will have to mow hay for the neighbor tomorrow.  They want to chop it tomorrow evening.

I have to get off to town sometime.  We need farm supplies.

I took a nap this evening.  I had a whopper of a headache and was just exhausted (wonder why, Lisa).  I'm feeling icky right now.  I hate to take naps during the day.  I feel worse than if I would have just suffered through the day.  Gotta do some dishes and feed the troops so I guess I will keep it short today.  Not too much happened except the usual farm work and tick hunting (yuck).  Beautiful sunset outside.  Hubby is spraying the crops and boy1 is picking rock.  Soon time for bed....oh yeah, I finished the book so that won't keep me up tonight .

Blessings on your night

Ticks!! Ugh

Good evening

We had quite a loud night last night.  Sharp thunder cracks.  Then the wind kicked into gear.  I don't do storms very well.  So I was up twice in the night checking the computer radar.  Boy2 doesn't do storms well either (wonder why, mom).  But fortunately the boys had their windows closed and a loud fan running.  They slept through it all.

So I lacked sleep today.  Had a back pain all day today.  Thought about going to the chiropractor but they were only open in the afternoon today and the weather people said we might be looking at worse storms this afternoon.  So Lisa didn't go anywhere this afternoon!

We did have some morning running around to do.  We had to go to the USDA office to certify our acres.  Then went to the bank, picked up the vacuum cleaner, dropped off the cedar chest at hubby's parents, picked up a new window for the hired guy's house trailer because his dog jumped through the original one, took a tour of the countryside's windtower project and then came home.  Home around 1:00pm.  Just in time to make lunch.  Do you ever get tired of deciding what to make?  Especially when you aren't into eating?!?

After lunch we had to take the semi to town to get the AC fixed.  I went to post office to mail that doll set and then picked up those who rode in the semi.

Since it rained overnight and the fact that I have a kink in my back, Lisa took it relatively easy today.  The most excitement I can offer you today is the fact that boy1 saw a tick on a dead 'possum and got scared that their might be one on him.  He came in a little frantic...asking me to check him for ticks.  I really didn't think I would find any.  I just figured he saw one outside no need to panic.  But as I was checking his hair, I saw one crawling on his shirt!!!!  Talk about frantic then!!  I got it off and killed it but what do I do with the child?!  LOL  I made him go outside and strip to his "shorts" and then run upstairs and take a shower.  I rechecked his hair when he was done.  So next question....what do I do with the clothing?  Noone wants to touch it.  Maybe hubby will.  It just lays outside.

If anyone has tips on tick control, PLEASE let me know.  I tried to do several searches on the internet.  I'm about to make everyone stay inside for the summer!  I feel so itchy it isn't funny.  We will be doing body checks!!

I went to the barn a little to help hubby and boys earlier.  Hubby is washing tractors right now.  Children are playing and relaxing.

May have to go running around tomorrow.  I need the chiropractor and the farm needs supplies.  We shall see what tomorrow brings.  It doesn't look like we will get those storms like they said.  Wisconsin looks to be getting the bad stuff.  I don't wish it on other people but I'm glad we aren't getting it.

My children are going to get sick of the body inspections every time they walk in the door.  I hate bugs!  Live on a farm and hate bugs?  Go figure.

Well better feed the troops, do bedtime bug checks, wash children and get some zzzzzzzs.

Blessings on your night

Hay, Hay, Hay!!

Get some rest on Sunday afternoon cause it's back to the grindstone on Monday.

On the go from the time your feet hit the floor.....  I have to admit at this time that I do not go out to the barn at 5am like my hubby BUT that doesn't mean I don't put in a full 15 hour day!  I don't like to wake the two younger children and I surely don't like leaving them in the house alone.  So the morning barn work is up to my hubby, the hired guy, boy1 and boy2.  The boys don't get out as early as the men but it is early just the same considering we don't get to bed till 10-11pm.

So out of bed, dressed and downstairs in a matter of 5 minutes.  Gotta get busy...those dishes are calling my name (unfortunately it's the only name they know).  All was going pretty good until boy2 came in telling me dad is in a frizz.  Dad wants the tractor wheel bearings now.  The hay has gotten too dry and we can't chop it.  We are going to have to bale it today and we need that tractor fixed.

Off we go to John Deere.  Boy1 asked to come along.  I said ok let's get moving.  Got work to do before I bale hay.  On the way back we took the road past the windtower construction site.  There are some being built in our area.  I'm ok with it.  Alternative energy is smart to me.  I don't think it kills that many birds.

Anyway, tractor got fixed and my hubby chopped two loads of haylage before breakfast.  You know that poor man puts in about 5 hard hours before he even stops for breakfast.  Bless his heart.  The vet was also here.  He checked a preemie calf that we aren't sure will make it.  He checked a pregnant cow.  Treated her for one thing but her problem turned out to be something else so what he gave her actually killed her.  So he quickly cut her open to try to save the calf.  The calf came out alive but died a few minutes later.  So thus we are out a cow, one calf for sure dead and not sure if the other will live but we can look forward to a vet bill!!

After breakfast, boy1 went out to rake the hay to get it ready to bale later.  Hubby says it will be ready to bale around 1pm.  So I had about 2 hours to get done what I could.  Now most of you understand that this isn't like send the children off to school and have the whole house to yourself kind of work.  This is trying to work with 5 others still wanting your time for this that and the other thing kind of work.  But guess what, sink looks beautiful, table is cleaned off and washed.  We even had lunch before I had to go out to bale hay.  (Oh yeah, almost forgot, the inlaws even stopped by to get some milk in that time as well!)

Did you ever bale hay?  What a boring job!  Stick a pregnant (tired and nauseated all the time) woman in this tractor that constantly rocks and goes slower than my three year old can run and how do you think she will feel?  Well I felt it.  I was sure I was going to fall asleep several times.  I'm sure I was out there for about 3 slow hours.  But 530 hay bales later, I got to go home.  I was in the house by about 5:30pm.  Good thing cause there's another problem about having a pregnant woman in a tractor that long.....I needed to go to the bathroom!

But no rest for the weary once I was in the house.  I washed up some of those self-multiplying dishes that showed up while I was out, I checked the weather (might get storms tonight) and then decided to make the family a peach crisp.  Need to use up some of those mushy peaches in the basement.  I no sooner got it in the oven and daughter was calling for someone to push her on the swing.  Guess who was available.....ME!   We were out for quite some time.  We played with the neighbor's dog that we have inherited.  She is a purebred Basset Hound (sp?).   We just love her.

So now the crisp is done, the children are still outside, the sky is getting stormy looking, hubby went to pick rock, I'm sitting here for the moment.....what will turn up next?

To be continued (Lord willing of course!)......

Blessings on your night!!!!!

All in a days work!

First time blogger here...I'll do my best.

Where to start?  I could tell you about the days events or tell you how I came to be where I am today.  I think days events will be shorter at this time...I'll tell you "the rest of the story" later.

We picked rock late last night.  Didn't get supper till after 10pm.  Then there were showers to take...so bedtime was a bit "crazy" around here.

Dishes didn't get done much at all yesterday so today I wanted to focus on dishes and laundry.  I also wanted to run to the post office to ship off a set of dolls to a lady in PA.  But my husband had other plans for my morning time.  At breakfast (which is around 9-10am) he informed me he would like some hay mowed....so off we go.

So off to the field went boy3 (6 yrs) and myself to mow hay.  It is our first cutting for the year and I sure had to get used to that piece of machinery.  Had a few skippers in the beginning but the know how all came back after a few rounds.  He wanted 20 windrows cut.  It took some time but I was back in the house by about 1pm.

Now for lunch, dishes and laundry.  Hubby, boy1 (12 yrs) and boy2 (10 yrs) were all out picking rock.  They sure will be hungry and THIRSTY.

I attacked the dishes and the laundry.  Laundry went pretty good but it always seems like there are dishes to do.  I think they just sit on the sink and multiply by themselves.

Evening barn chores the boys were having trouble getting motivated.  They were still tired from picking rock so I tried to make sure I was available in the barn to help.  We do have a hired guy but the boys are responsible to feed the calves.  We must have around 25 - 30 calves right now.

Well I better go for now.  Hubby is out picking rock.  It is dark so I'm sure he will be in soon.  The weather is beautiful right now.  Cool breeze coming in the window.  Computer says 73 degrees.  Boys didn't come in yet...outside enjoying the cool night.  Daughter (3 yrs) is in here with me.  She just complained that the boys ate all the ice cream cones.  There were only 4 in the box and she had two of them!!  Now who ate them all?  LOL

Blessings on your night.  Gotta run!
