Well I'll Bee: "National Adoption Day"

We went to our class last night. It was for foster children. Not adoptive children. Adoptive children are presented every 3 months. But we were told that we would be unable to attend until the 'State Certification' was 'in hand'. This whole process is supposed to take 6-9 months (hey 9 months is a pregnancy). Our agency finally filed in October (they were supposed to do it in July but our new caseworker wouldn't listen to me and she found out she was in error). Now they have until January to turn in the homestudy. The State then has 60 days to complete the certification which could take until March. Now let's see, since we started this in January 2006 and we may not be done until March 2007 (and then we can actually start looking. I've been looking for yrs, lol) that's 15 months (almost 2 pregnancies and I really hadn't expected to be 'Pregnant' That Long (sarcasm). Oh, well, all in the Lord's due time. Right Ladies?
The foster child was a real learning experience and it has dicouraged me. But as I was contemplating the whole thing yesterday I believe that the spirit told me, "Brenda, this is just like riding a horse just because you fall off doesn't mean you can't ride, but you have to get back on the saddle and try again. Don't give up." (I've only ridden a horse a couple of times in my life so don't you think He could have chosen something else. I got the message and I am grateful). I also had a blessing a few weeks ago that said He would help us find the 'right' child and my husband asks Him to help us regularly in our prayers to help find a child. (Maybe it's just so that I can be happy and 'get this whole thing over with' so I'll quit nagging. It's only been 26 yrs ha,ha).
My hubby talked me into a 'domestic' adoption because of the expense of an international (But I still think about it occasionally because I think those are the children who need more but I will go where God leads me, I hope).
We had started an international adoptional 6 yrs ago just before my oldest left on his mission. A little 8 yr old hearing impaired boy named 'Anton' from Russia and I still wish I knew what happened to him. He would be 14 now. I also have a stuffed animal still in my closet that I had bought 'just for him' and I still won't let anyone play with it. Story goes Michael says 'Mom there are 10 yrs between so and so (his brothers) and 10 yrs between so and so (his sisters). Since you didn't have a baby 10 yrs after me you need to have a baby 20 yrs after me'.
We told him he was crazy as he was getting ready to leave on his Mission and when he got back he could have his own babies! Well we had just been sealed in the Temple on our 20th anniversary and a month later we found out I was pregnant with #6 (#10 if you count miscarriages). Since the baby and our adoptive child would both be due in August they said it would be 'too much' for all of us and cancelled the adoption. Baby brother is 'guess what' 20 yrs younger than his oldest Brother. Now I know who God listens too 'MY CHILDREN' j/k. We named him with a 'Z' hoping God knew that 'Z' was the last letter of the alphabet (hence last pregnancy. B
ut we have tried since and I really do believe God is done with me at this point. 47 yr olds don't have babies, do they? at least not naturally, unless your Sarah, Abraham wife in the Bible). Anyway, as for fate, my baby has the same blonde hair and blue eyes as 'Anton' did and he also has had his share of hearing difficulties. I wouldn't trade him and I have been blessed. End of Story.

Adoption is a wonderful blessing & miracle! I do hope you are able to fulfill your dream one day of adopting... it can be discouraging but soooo worth it in the end!

We have been blessed with 10 children - and 5 of them came to us thru the gift of adoption.......
each one truly is a miracle!

My dh is hoping we can adopt again soon...... I keep telling the Lord I need a break! LOL! We'll see where the Lord leads us.

Thanks for the reminder that today is national adoption day!

blessings,
gloria
