Going to be MIA for a bit...

Dewey will be heading over to Arkansas this weekend to get started on the new job.  We are all excited about the prospects this job will offer, though the time away isn't top on our favorite list.  We have plans, though.  Plans for visits alot...and plans for a living history study this year

Do keep us lifted in prayer if we come to mind.  Dewey for peace while gone from home where his heart is deeply embedded, and for safety while traveling and living there.  And for us, who will miss him terribly, but want this all to work for the best for the family.  So, we will be cheerful and trust that The Lord is working all of this for our benefit.  He has been guiding us in this since it first came up and we each have peace over the decision.  Still, being apart is hard for the flesh to be happy about.

The other notebook computer here is off on the FedEx truck.  It had an accident and needs repair or replacement.  Thank you Lord for great warranties!  This notebook is next to head out.  I thought I'd try waiting for the other to return, but it will be a minimum of 10 working days.  Our warranty coverage is up the end of September and if they aren't working properly after walking through everything they keep trying, I want them repaired or replaced.  That's what I paid for.  We bought the big warranty...it covers everything under the sun that could ever possibly happen to these things...if Wild Child takes them to the barn and the piggies play with them -- it's covered!  If they end up in the driveway and get run over -- it's covered.  If someone spills their bowl of cereal or glass of tea over the keyboard and it turns pretty blue and green colors in little lightening flashes -- it's covered.  With this family, we thought ahead and wanted to be prepared, kwim?

Well, I need to gather some items for Dewey's paperwork and get back to the chores of the day here.  I might be missing in action for a couple of weeks if both computers head off for repair.  Need to close some group mails until then!  See you when I get back online!

So much to do soo little time

This summer has deffinitely been a learning experience for us in regards to Fair. A  whole lot of what NOT to do and what you had BETTER DO! Our smallest pig is still 20lbs over weight and 2 of our goats are light by 7 lbs.  We are still planning on going the kids can still show I have heard they just can't sell. I figure the experience will be worth it. They all managed to work on some of their exhibt stuff today. I ironed 14 shirts and a few pair of pants trying to get the kids show clothes together. We will need to pick up a few things in town. Olivia cleaned out the trailer and made the beds. We plan on taking it over to stay in so we can be there bright and early. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to milk.

I have been canning like a crazy women. I did 40 or 50 qts of peachs (I lost count)9 qts of peach pie filling but one broke, 20 trays of dried peaches, had never tried them before the kids LOVE them, and 20 trays of peach fruit leather only I burned all but 3 trays, don't ask. Then one of then stuck terribly to the saran wrap and Malachi was trying to eat it wrapper and all.  30 qts of green beans. With Olivia working at the orchard here in town part time I make out quite well and so do our pigs. We just picked up 4 little weiners yesterday. 2 for us and 2 for my friend. Now all those scraps and milk can be put to good use.

I have been hot and grouchy most of the summer it feels like. Noah has really been acting up lately which affects everyone. If anyone has experince with Fetal Alchol/ Meth children I would really apperciate some advice. We are still trying to stay away frome using drugs but lately I have been reconsidering other options. He is going to stay home with Daddy and the 2 little boys so I can focus and have fun with the kids at fair.

Our pastor and one of his sons came over this weekend and started work on our schoolroom. It will be so nice to have that space. I will try to take pictures as it progresses. I still have not ordered curriculum or completely decided what to get or even for sure who all is staying home but I figure I will get one thing at a time out of the way. Fair First!

It is late and I want to get an early start. We need to go into Baker for a few things after chores tomorrow so I will close for now.

Homemade

Posted on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 11:10 by Chas - 11 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I may sound like a clanging gong, but... I am loving doing most of my stuff "homemade".  I have been cooking from scratch and baking and such for a good while now, but it is always good to learn something new.  I feel such satisfaction when I learn a new, old way of doing things.  Almost always, it is cheaper, healthier and tastier than todays way of convenience. So for tonight, I am going to share with you how to make your own vanilla.
First you want to purchase some beans.  Now you can go to the fancy Whole Foods mart and pay $5 for 2 or something crazy like that or you can do what I do and browse the net and find an AWESOME deal for 30-something Organic  beans for like $20!  Oh yeah, it was incredible... check ebay, that is where I found it.
Now the next thing you need is alcohol.  Now, we are not drinkers in any shape, form or fashion... so the liquor store was an uncomfortable thing... but you need some to make your vanilla.  I bought just a $5 bottle of vodka and it fills up my container and sits until I am ready to make some more.
Thats all you need my friends.  Are you shocked, I was... and how can something so simple make you feel so accomplished? :)
Now... take your beans and put maybe 4 in a little half-pint mason jar.  Fill the jar up with your alcohol and sit in a dark cabinet for 30 days.  After 30 days you are ready to use.
If you decide to make some brownies or some other scrumptious treat that calls for vanilla and you use some up, take your alcohol and top it off.  No need to let it set again, it will get all infused with the other vanilla and you will be fine and dandy.
So thats it! Have fun and you won't ever have to run out and pay $7 for a teeny bottle of vanilla again.  Oh, and there is the idea of a super Christmas gift.  A lovely bow and a twig of berries tied to it.  Beautiful simplicity.

Singing the Word of God

Posted on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 02:08 by blessed mom - 4 Comments - Post Comment - Link

For the past few weeks the Lord has laid it on my heart to have the word of God on my children's heart and lips more often . The passage that came to my mind was from Deuteronomy:

" And thou shalt teach  them dilegently unto thy children and shalt talk to them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up." Deut 6:7

Now we do have a morning devotional  time when we read a chapter from the Bible and the kids have a verse they memorize each week and for their copy work, but I still felt that the Lord wanted us  to have the WORD of God on our  hearts and lips all thru the day.

I took my desire to the Lord and asked for help..... His answer : put music to passages from the Bible. Ok, I thought..... "how am I to do that , Lord?" I mean I am NOT a musical person -- I love music,  but I don't sing wonderfully and I don't read music! The Lord's response to me was  "Don't worry, I'll give you the music".  Isn't God good?

These past weeks we have been putting the psalms to music or shall I say the Lord has been and it has been so fun!

It has blessed my heart to see my kids going thru their day singing the psalms and other passages!

So far we have been able to sing Psalm 121, Ps. 150, Ps. 13,  & John 11:25

Now the music is very simple -- or shally I say the melody is very simple - easy for children to learn and memorize.  The words come directly from the Bible - we have not changed them at all and we use the more formal KJV.  It has been easy for the kids to learn these verses because the music helps them with the memorization.

It's so precious to see my kids sing the word of God as they gor thru their day - doing their chores, or playing. I have been singing them as they lay down for bed at night as well, so it's the last words they hear before bed.

How precious~ we have been so blessed by what the good Lord has been doing here!

Our God is truly a creative God - He is the master artist and music is definately not a problem with Him!

It's always amazing to me how God answers our prayers..... He always helps us accomplish what He asks of us to do.  I hope you all will realize how anxious the Lord is for your children to know His word and to speak His word....... thru the day and at night when they go to sleep. What a blessing it is for them to know God's word and it truly blesses His heart to hear!

Let us never take for granted how important it is for us as mothers to dillegently teach our children the word of God.

Praise His name!

I would like to introduce you to Ms. Gabby Ella Bella.

Here she is lounging on the couch.

Trying to be cute.

Getting a belly rub from her "brother". lol

Look at those ears!

This is Bella, my birthday gift from my DH. We had a daschund years and years ago who was sadly ran over by my DH's work truck one evening. I have wanted another one for a really long time. I find them to be really smart and loving. And protective when needed.

Hope everyone is having a good summer.

Outside My WindowWell it is a bit early (5:30am) to know what the weather is going to bring but outside my window right now I can hear the croaking of tree frogs, the songs of the crickets and the beat of horse hooves walking in the pasture.

I am thinkingabout my wonderful husband and thanking the Lord for all he does. He tries so hard to make things good for us and I am praying that with the Lords help I can be a good helpmeet to him and do more things for him as well. Love ya Gary!

I am thankful forall the gifts the Lord has given me, for my vision of prosperity. For all the friends who have crossed my path and all those who have stayed for the long haul. I am thankful for my husband, my children and my extended family (praying for you always)

From the kitchen…I hear absolute silence as it is to early to start breakfast, ahhhh but a pot of coffee brewing would be a wonderful noise. (be right back )!

I am wearing…today I am wearing my Girl Scout Troop shirt, black Capri's and of course my diabetic socks, my hair is down for now but if it heats up outside you can bet I will have it up.

I am creating Today I am finishing up a matchbox animal for a swap I am doing (you can see it at my artsy blog here ). Then I will start some handmade toys for a young lady on free-cycle that has a six week old baby and is looking for some soft toys for her to play with later. I will be making two soft rattles, a rag doll and a lullaby bird. I will be sure to post those on my artsy blog too.

I am goingto run to town today to have the expedition inspected and pick up a few groceries but that shouldn't take to long.

I am readingMy bible, Keepsake Crimes by Laura Childs, and The Gospel of the Redman.

I am hoping…to plan out all our Birthday activities today so that I can rest about those.

I am hearingThe whirl of the ceiling fan in the master bedroom and the clicking of the keys on the keyboard. The singing of crickets and the croaking of frogs. Ahhh God is all around me!

Around the housewe will be pulling out school bins and organizing the homeschool bookshelf. Getting ready for our Homeschool kickoff! I think we will go to the park, have a picnic, look over our new materials and enjoy God's creation. Then kickoff school Sept 8Th! Whoo hooo I am looking forward to it!

One of my favorite things…Cute MICE, Cuddly Mice, brown mice, white mice,  and oh did I say Mice!!

Wonderfully Productive

Posted on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 11:18 by Chas - 2 Comments - Post Comment - Link

This weekend was wonderful... wonderfully productive... and I L.O.V.E. being productive! :)
We cleaned out the root cellar, we hope to add shelves in the next week or two.  We spent some time in the garden.  I spent some time in the kitchen, and we all just spent some time together... The weather was not as dreadfully hot as it has been and it was nice.  We enjoyed a bit of rain today and hope to get more in the next day or so.
Saturday, I made up some homemade vanilla, some Lacto-Fermented Salsa, I chopped up peppers and have them in the freezer and Saturdays lunch was a wonderful soup and some crusty bread.  I plan on sharing the directions for the above throughout the week.
I have spent a little time in the sewing room also and the bug has bitten me.  I am anxious to get some projects going and accomplished... Christmas is NOT too far away you know!!!  Especially for those of us who like to give handmade gifts!!!!  So it is a good thing I am in the mood to start crafting.
I hope your Monday is fantastic!

Ray and I are thinking about joining a club is a living history club providing primitive camping (rendezvous)and camaraderie for people from all walks of life.

What they do...

Simple Journey Ministries Presents

Simply Frugal

Frugal Tea

Tea lovers abound everywhere. People love their java and coffee houses are all the rage! I myself like to treat myself to a mocha java, decaf, skinny, no whip from time to time. Not that I cannot make it from scratch in the same amount of time, but just for a fun treat. However, I have noticed that tea I enjoy more at home. There is something so calming about a simple cup of herbal tea.
