Our Weekend......

It has been a while since I have been able to post. We have been very busy trying to get ready for winter. We have been getting some rain so our burn ban has been lifted. We tried to burn alot of the brush and wood that we have been clearing out of our woods. I have been trying to get the house ready for the cold weather. I put plastic on our bed room windows and some weather stripping around our doors and windows.

Here is our fire and us enjoying a bag of marshmallows:)

The girls found this crawdad.

It was pretty big:)

The girls also enjoy some quiet time. They found a special spot in the creek.

We couldn't  help taking one of them smiling:)

One of the girls took this picture of Pa. My husband worked so hard yesterday. He mowed the yard and worked in the garden. He has the garden put to bed for the winter. We are working  on our compost bins, and we do have a few heads of cabbage planted.

We have been working on making our lives more simple. I hope to post the changes we have been making. One big change I have made is line drying most of our clothes. I bought a wood clothes dryer rack and have been using it for most of our clothes. It feels good to save money and it also helps our clothes look nice longer.

Our library had a lady come in  to talk  about making lye soap. It was so very interesting. This lady has 6 acres.  She has goats, chickens and  bees. We are hoping to get to know her better and how she lives a simple life on her farm. She has made the girls and  I excited about making more soap and she gave us some great hints and ideas:)

Well I hope you had a great weekend!

Blessings,

Ma

I love your fire pit. I have been asking dh to build me one. He said he would, just not right now. He has been really busy. I would love to get into dutch oven cooking and I love the idea of being able to cook out doors and hopefully saving some on the electric bill. Your kids are like mine, love playing in the creek and catching crawldads.

Hello there... thanks for stopping by. I understand the busy-ness of life - it just gets crazy sometimes.

And I, too, love your fire pit! Our "new" house has a dirt pit towards the back of the lot, where we are told (by our neighbors) that the family would have bonfires and roast marshmallows. We've used it to burn brush, and now it is filled again with leaves and branches & such - but I'd love to rock it in and make a "real" pit.

We are enjoying our clothesline as well... yesterday I dried all of the loads of laundry out there (6!), only tossing them in the dryer for 10 minutes to soften them up a bit. Wow - I can't wait to see our electric bill next month. It feels good to save money AND do something for the environment God gave us.

And the garden - that reminds me that we need to start researching plants and schedules and such so we can have our very own garden next spring - so exciting!!!

Have a blessed, restful week, Ma... you deserve it!

PS I call you Ma here, because I don't know if you want your real name posted - just FYI!

Hi Ma! I wanted to let you know that we just got our first bill in, post-clothesline, and for only a half-months of use, we saved $18! That's a good deal of savings, IMHO. I knew you were line drying too, and wanted to see if ya'll have saved anything yet, that you know of? Makes my "walking the line" much sweeter, LOL!
