Cooking from the garden and The blessings of homeschooling

Today has been so hot! The girls and I spent much of the day outside in their pool. We all came in and got cleaned up.  I have pulled a cake from the oven and supper is almost ready. I always seem to like to bake on hot days? I have been really enjoying making dinner with all of our garden goodies. Tonight we are having a turkey casserole with our green beans from the garden. We haven't been getting enough to can which makes me a little sad. Last year we had plenty to can but this year is a little different. I am sure we will have plenty of tomatoes to can:) I love making chili with our garden tomatoes:)

School starts next week so I have given the girls this week to rest which they have. They both have summer colds so really all they feel like doing is resting. We have been talking about their new books and what they will be learning this year. It is so exciting to be homeschooling again this year. I hope I never take it for granted. Since both of our girls have been in public school so long we really can appreciate when God gives you such a big Blessing! Homeschooling has been the best thing we could have ever given our children:)

So far we have only gotten some peas, one strawberry and one tomato from our garden but I also love to cook with wonderful fresh foods. We joined a CSA and it is so much fun to use the "surprise" items we get each week.

Enjoy the start of school. I love restarting homeschooling. It always seems fresh and exciting.
