The Start of a Homesteader Mom | ||
![]() MERGING THE BLOGSI'm thinking of merging this blog with my cooking one. And calling it something like COOKING AND OTHER THINGS WITH LITTLES UNDERFOOT. So if suddenly things start to dissapear from here you know where to go. That blog is public so no need to ask for acccess or anything ok!??![]() One more thing, my weight, finally..![]() Yes, it is time to address the weight issue. I have had that thing up at the top of my blog for my weight loss for I don't even know how long.. and I haven't been making a conscious effort to lose any. Well, that is over. Today, I did really good. I had: a chicken breast salad with very little ranch dressing attempted a vegi hot dog, EW! Never again! Salsa with White corn chips.. not very many two green onions about 4 pringles.. my daughter had some and I ate them without realizing what I was doing.. GAH!! I also had one of those Vitamin Waters, Strawberry-Kiwi ~~more sugar than I wanted, but all WalMart had was Dasani water and I don't like the taste of that stuff.. and I was sooo thirsty after getting groceries. Um.. what else have I had today? I actually think that is it. =) So I actually think that is pretty good. Hopefully I can do as well tomorrow. ![]() ![]() Something fun.. pen pals for you...![]() In my search for Home Ec curriculum for my daughter I stumbled across something fun. Pen Pals that you can sign up for. A way of getting back to writing things on paper and cards and actually mailing them out instead of using email. I signed up and got my pen pals.. you can get up to two. I already got a card from one of them and it was so much fun. So if you might want to sign up, here is the link. Have fun!! Sign up for your Pen Pals! ![]() ![]() I ordered my pressure canner today!!![]() Well, I finally did it. =) I ordered my pressure canner today from Walmart.com. It is only the 16 Qt size, but I figured that would be fine for me. Plus in the description it said it is ideal for flat top, ceramic stoves. I was worried about that. I found some information at pickyourown.org that said most flat top ceramic stoves won't get hot enough for a pressure canner. So hopefully the description was correct. Now I just have to get the Ball Blue Book, all the little gadgets I will need and of course all my jars and lids. Yay! I am very excited! ![]() ![]() A new resource I found..![]() I was checking my yahoo mail tonight to put something on Freecycle and I had a bunch of emails from www.Nubella.com. They all had to do with healthier eating. Many had links to recipes on their site. I have been sitting here perusing through many recipes that sound delicious and trying to figure out how exactly I am going to organize them for future reference. =) I am not sure how I got signed up for these emails, but I am definitely glad I did. ![]() ![]() A new GrandchildMichelle came over this morning to talk to dad and I. She told us that she is 3 weeks pregnant. We are not shocked, but then again we are. Michelle has been dating Gill for 4 and 1/2 weeks now. They live with his parents. Michelle told us that she and Gill will get married soon, but her divorce needs to be done 1st. She also told us she is going to keep looking for a job and try to go to school too. We will see. Michelle has not worked a day since she has moved back down here months ago. Everyone has been supporting her and the babies. We will love and welcome any grandchild, we just wish she was on her feet taking care of the babies she has now before adding more. Michelle's sisters are upset and disappointed in her because they have raised Jeffie and Maddie as much as Michelle has. We need to keep this in prayer and Gods hands where they belong. God Bless, mj ![]() FEMININE FRIDAY~HAIR:)

Have you ever felt the urge to pray for someone and then just put it on a list and said , 'I'll pray for them later?' Or has anyone ever called you and said, 'I need you to pray for me, I have this need?' Read the following story that was sent to me and May it change the way that you may think about prayer and also the way you pray. You will be blessed by this.... A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan .. 'While serving at a small field hospital in Africa , every two weeks I traveled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine, and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then traveled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident.... Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, 'Some friends and I followed you in to the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards. At this, I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite.
The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No, sir, I was not the only person to see the guards, my friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone.'
At this point in the sermon, one of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and Interrupted the missionary and asked if he could tell him the exact day this happened. The missionary told the congregation the date, and the man who interrupted told him this story:
'On the night of your incident in Africa , it was morning here and I was preparing to go play golf. I was about to putt when I felt the urge to pray for you. In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong, I called men in this church to meet with me here in the sanctuary to pray for you. Would all of those men who met with me on that day stand up?' The men who had met together to pray that day stood up. The missionary wasn't concerned with who they were, he was too busy counting how many men he saw. There were 26 This story is an incredible example of how The Spirit of the Lord moves in behalf of those who love Him. If you ever hear such prodding, go along with it. Nothing is ever hurt by prayer except the gates of hell. I encourage you to forward this to as many people as you know. If we all take it to heart, we can turn this world toward God once again. As the above true story clearly illustrates, 'With God all things are possible'. More importantly, how God hears and answers the prayers of the faithful. ![]() Some pix and things....ok, well below are 2 pix taken of Anna Joy today and yesterday. She is really growing and I can tell she has gotten heavier. We are pretty much over our nursing woes..........though this nursing is a full time job. Ain't she a cutie!! Alright....our oven is broken and they can't fix it. Joys of living in a country where only the foreigners have ovens......well....married foreigners. DH is going to try again and see if we can't order a part from overseas. I will check with some missionaries in the capital where there are alot of American schools......surely this part is here in Taiwan. Until then.....I am really stuck on how to cook. TECHINCALLY I shouldn't be cooking..........Chinese custom gives me the whole month off. But, though dh can cook, and very well at that, he seems to think it is tiring..........HELLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO like ya think I love it? ok, really I don't like cooking......maybe cause it's I don't like my kitchen and lack of space to do anything or keep anything? i don't know....but without my oven I am seriously stuck on ideas of what to cook. I have a bread maker, but last loaf I made it turned out into a knot of somekind.....totally messed that one up and so sorta afraid to do that again. I am dying for banana bread though.........any muffin type breads for the bread maker? one loaf of bread is not going to cut it for my crew. I am looking though for something for a breakfast bread...... well......that's it for now.........here are two pix of our princess:
