The Start of a Homesteader Mom

4th weekend projects.

lol dh is working hard on our kitchen now. All I did was say something that I thought would look good in the FUTURE! I said we should take our time and do it right instead of just doing what we can now. It is our home and we will appreciate it more if we do it the right way. Oh did I open a can of worms! And easy paint job has turned in to a demolition project! Whoops!

But it is JUSTIN who cannot wait. lol So my kitchen ceiling stuff is being rebuilt as I type. Preggo wife is resting! And I got all new lighting in there. A new light fixture and recess lighting. When it is done, it is going to be so nice! But it is going to be a while I think. building, plastering, sanding, painting etc. The electric work is done though. One shattered light fixture later.

Updates on things we did in our house.

When we got our home, we had an old dresser that came with it, in the bathroom. It was the only place for towels. So after it is breaking apart, we decided to make it a closet. So we took a short cut and got a plastic shelf and built a door around it. The shelf came in boxes that Justin cut for the kids into bus shapes! They had a BLAST with them!

Here is the dresser that we stuck in the hall while we were setting up the shelves. I hear Tristan calling "come find me!" and found him here! Of course Alyssa wanted in too!

And here is my foyer. We are working on. We are going to do the floors this spring when we can open up the doors again. We have them completely shut off for the winter. We will have to replace the door in front here. The cold cracked it right in the middle! Anyways. Here is a bit of our old furniture set up.

And our new chandalier that we got on clearance at Lowes. Justin LOVES it. It is not my style but he liked it a ton so hey, it is his house too. He can have it.

The Money Pit and Are We Done Yet.

Dh rented both these movies this week. I think he is needing a little pick me up from our house. It just seems like a never ending job. That and he is working 12 plus hours per day at FedEx. There is time but he likes to see SOMETHING progressing. So we rented those and made ourselves feel better about things. At least it is not that bad! lol

But I JUST feel through our deck! Well my chair did! ahhh. I sat down on a rotted out board and BOOM I went down! At least it was not one of the kids! And I did laugh at myself. Just one more thing on the honey do list. Poor Justin!

things are shaping up so nicely...

Well yesterday we went to Kennywood! It was really fun. Justin had to work but my mom and dad took me and the kids. It was nice to be able to do all that Alyssa wanted instead of worrying about everyone else. Normally when we go places it is a group of kids. Tristan was a GEM! I was worried he would be fussy. Not one bit. He did not like the rides much. We tried him twice on the turtles, the merry go round and the train. Alyssa had a blast!

I am so tired now.

Justin got our back porch on. FIL is going to paint them when we buy paint. eventually the back will have a roof.

MIL said she is going to give us the top acre. That is great.

We just need to get our fence up, the skirting and then all the magor stuff is done.

Our New Tiki Solar Lights

09:46, May 27, 2006 .. Posted in The Move .. 0 comments .. Link

We got these really cool Tiki Torches last night. The pictures look interesting! lol They are solar powered. $12 something each at lowes. They suck up the sun during the day and when it is dark they turn on. I took these pictures in the dark and the focus was hard. So it blured them. They are NOT flames. It is just a soft light. I love them. But these pictures turned out really funny looking.

We got 4 of them for our back porch but our porch is not on yet.

TONS of Pictures! What I am known for!

This is a picture of Justin scrapping my brother in laws trailer. You can see it is almost done but this gives you an idea of the WORK he did. Almost all by himself. His brothers and mom and dad and I helped here and there but Justin worked constantly. I was proud of him.

Then our trailer is in place now and the front porch was being put on Saturday. So I took some pics out my front door to show you the view.

My inlaws own up to the road ... well I think the state owns a few feet right of way onto the grass, you know how that goes. but that is their creek. I like that. Kinda makes our yard safer from the main road there.

Between the trees you can kinda see my inlaws house. That is a lilac bush in the middle of the picture. I am going to snag some of it to plant up by my trailer. And the scrap in the yard is from the trailer we tore down. The men have ideas for using it up. It is an eyesore to us but from the roads the trees hide it for now.

This is looking to the side. Our shed. The field there is the farmer's next to us.

And this is looking to the side. That is my old big deck that was on the back of the house. We split it and are going to make a long porch on the back instead of a big deck. We are going to put a roof on it too. My van is the top of our driveway where we park. We are going to use the back door more. Also note my white fence! That is going to go in the backyard with all the kids toys (swingset, trampoline and sandbox) and then I have a safe place for my kids to run around! Yeah!

Ok now since the kids rooms were clean and not lived in yet I figured I would show you them too! lol

Tristans room...

Alyssa's room

She has her wall hangings up now so they are not so bare.

Before we moved like the DAY Before... we found two barn kitties

One died but she kept the other one. Our dog Jack was nursing them!

Jack is fixed and I dont think they got milk but they tried.

I had a wedding to go to saturday so I did my make up and hair... Taking them of my self so not the best... one smiling one not. Oh well.

And one more to embarrass my son... This is how I find him almost EVERY DAY!

wowzas finally on again

I keep having password trouble. Not sure what is up but glad Carla is not sick of me requesting new ones again. Sorry Carla!!!

Anyways. Updates. It is 58 degrees in here right now. Our furnace BLEW UP in Justins face.  I am DONE saying "Nothing else can go wrong" Because someone is saying HA HA.

He is fine. He had no eyelashes and a red eye for two days... I Just am like - of all the weather for this to have happened and it has dropped to the 30s at night this whole week. Amazing.

We do have our front porch on now. I am going to upload some pictures so I can show you our view and how far away from my mother in laws house we really are. Not too bad. Don't mind the mess as our porches are in the yard etc.

Still no electric - PLEASE PRAY they come NOW!

04:08, May 18, 2006 .. Posted in The Move .. 3 comments .. Link
Ok... I LOVE my mom and love her house. I love the break... but I have been staying at my moms since Thursday! This is getting ridiculous! Please pray they turn the electric on! Please! I miss my dh. I love the break of not cooking and someone helping me with the kids but I miss my own house yk? We are so out of routeen. Also a break in the rain so my house can be leveled would be nice too. Please pray it holds off tonight so that dh can level the trailer. As of now half of it is still on the wheels sinking in the mud. I see some sunshine right now but for the next 2 1/2 hours dh is still at work.

So I thought I would come and blog for some prayer. I really appreciate it.

God is Good.

Last night as dh and I took down the trampoline in the STORM! I prayed for some protection and saw a double rainbow. I think rainbows are a way God talks to me. I think I have only seen 3 in my childhood and this year alone I have seen them 3 times. And each time I was praying. They might be common but this year they have come when I was talking to God. And believe me I was talking to him last night. I prayed that God would keep us safe. In the middle of a field tearing down our net and trampoline (metal springs and such). God is Good!

Ok. hopefully I will have a praise of electric soon!

Answering a comment question.

Southernbelle Asked to know what my move is all about. So I thought I would just post a post so she might be sure to see and anyone else wondering the same thing could read too. If you joined me late .

No this is not the acreage I have been dreaming of. This is a stepping stone. We have a single wide 1997 trailer that we rented a spot to live on, on a farm. We moved to my mother in laws to cut back on bills so I could quit my job and finally be the stay at home mom I have been dreaming of. And future homeschooler. Just tinkering with that area for now until my kids are older.

My Dh has a 2 year plan to get us our own property. But for now just a stepping stone. Once we get electric on I can upload some pictures to show you what we have been doing (scrapping the old trailer) and where we were and where we are at now.

Thanks for asking!

all the fun stuff now... :)

10:07, May 16, 2006 .. Posted in The Move .. 2 comments .. Link
Well now we have to do the fun stuff... right. The waiting for the electric to get turned on. The getting a propane tank out there.

Yesterday I met Justin at the house and we went to Trader Horn. He had to get pipe stuff for the drains because Travis' drains ran one way and we needed them to run the opposite direction. That was BORING! Poor Justin. Under the trailer in the cold mud. I love that guy. He is such a good husband.

We have to still get our trampoline and porch swing and grill from our old property. Then we are done there. The land lord there thinks we are going to still cut the grass.. UM... WHY should we cut the grass if we are gone? When in  swipes of his tractor he could cut it but 2 hours of Justin cutting with ours? Because he is lazy! Ok maybe not lazy but that is just not top priority to me. Sorry.

We have to put skirting on our trailer and then put our fence up. We have to get our decks on still. Justin has material to build a roof on our back porch. I am happy about that.

He has to rake the ground because there is glass and nails and scrap in the yard where I want the kids to play. So that is something he is going to have to work on too.

Will the work ever be done? My mil keeps saying don't worry. In a month this will be all behind us.

I am happy. Things are nice. Lots of work but I am very happy about the end results.

My oh my... could anything else happen... shouldn't say that.

07:28, May 15, 2006 .. Posted in The Move .. 4 comments .. Link
So it is a rainy weekend for our move. Let me take you back to a week or so ago. Ok a month or two ago when we told my MIL to list our BILs trailer in the Horse Trader. Did she do it? No. I can't completely blame her though. I was in the same mind with her that BIL and SIL had it full of stuff and noone would want to buy it.  So she waited. And when she did list it was a Week and a half BEFORE we were supposed to move. My dh freaked. And of course ALMOST single handedly scrapped my BILs trailer. Oh word. He is also working a full time job.

It was a mess. The whole time scrapping it all he got was yelled at and I got yelled at over it. They freaked. I am talking you would have thought we were Satan himself. If I did not know everyone was just under too much stress I would have said no way will I EVER move here. Actually about 3 nights that week Justin did call me saying stop the packing we are not moving here.

Packing. Did I mention I packed my whole house myself? I am pretty proud of me.

Move day... the kids and I came into moms to stay. That is going great and currently where I sit right now. The trailer people come out and are just to get things ready for Saturdays move (this was friday). But with the RAIN RAIN and more RAIN they say they want to get it in NOW. So the last of our things are hurridly done (thus why my over the toilet shelf came crashing down onto my toilet paper bar when it broke off, breaking that from the wall too...) and we are moving the trailer.

As I rush to my inlaws to await them coming I see them! and what do I see they pull of the road and ... and... nothing. They are not moving. Because they are STUCK IN THE MUD!!!! To top that off one wheel fell off during that. At least they made it off the road.

Farmer comes out who's property we were using to cut acrossed and says why did you take it that way? (This guy is a GOD SEND! GOD SEND I tell you. Big GOLD Tooth with a John Deer Emblem on it in the front. Thank God the man does love John Deer so much...)
We told him his wife told us to go this way and the last trailer was brought in that way. He says, what does she know! She was not here then. We were to go a long way up around his barn and down through his field. So he got his BIG John Deer out and towed them. Truck Trailer and all...

Going well... Boom. It comes to another hault. The trailer hitch broke! No kidding. Oh my word.

Trailer moving guys were getting really nastey at this point. Um... like this is OUR FAULT?

God Send Farmer (neighbor) to the rescue again! He calls his other farmer friend (Gotta LOVE ALL YOU FARMER PEOPLE OUT HERE!!!) who has trailer hitches in his yard. He says you can have them but you have to come over and measure which will fit. So off we go and it gets welded on.

And all is well right? NO!

BILs trailer was 14x72. So was ours. So everything will be perfect and line up. So we thought. Dumb mistake. His frame was only 6.5 ft. Ours is more like 8 wide. The piers are off!!!

The trailer people leave with our trailer sitting there. Tell us to pour piers and call him back and he will come back later in the week. Took $1200 and left. So we still owe him when he comes back for the rest of the job. $300 more.

Justin, his dad and one brother work till 3 am pouring cement (30 bags of it) and pouring piers. Justin says no way is he calling them back they will level it themselves. So bought bottle jacks too. $$

Then Justin wakes up puking. But he kept working.

Time to work the electric. GO BACK to last week when I called to have them set up service. They said no way until we get it inspected. I said where can we live!?! They said find a place! AHHHH so I am still at moms. No electric.

$200+ later Justin gets all the stuff for him and his brother to do the electric. As we speak he is doing that. PLEASE pray everything is passed and quickly and they turn our electric on soon.

Did I mention Tristan fell head first down the steps at moms??

All is going amazingly wonderful here. Well a few things here and there. Oh I got to keep my dog! And Alyssa got barn cats. One died, Never would eat. They were nursing off our dog! So My FIL is going to keep the one (Day - Night died) down in his basement for her. So she has been thrilled. I am allergic. But we got to keep our dog! I am thrilled. She is an outside pet but the most amazing dog you ever would meet.

And now I am going to close before noone will read this being so long. Please keep us in your prayers and soon we will be done and back to normal. Hopefully! I miss Justin. He is staying over there working since Friday. Sleeping in our trailer with no electric but an extention cord from his moms to run our fridge and freezer and one lamp. He is a good man.
