Homemade Laundry Soap Question - Can anyone help me fix my lumpy thick soap?

10:14, October 1, 2006 .. Posted in Laundry .. 4 comments .. Link

Ok, I have made 4 batches so far. I get 2 bottles a batch so this is good. Each time I think it is going better. I just am not sure if I am doing something wrong. I am making the liquid that calls for

1 bar of felsnapha soap

1 cup of borax

1 cup of washing soda

8 cups of water

heat until disolved

let cool 1 hour

Then pour  into two milk jugs and top off with hot water. Let sit a day. Then shake.

Mine is SOOOOOOOOOOOO thick. I get soap clumps that I have to break up and I SWEAR except for froth on the top it is disolved. And it is very thick. What am I doing wrong? It works fine but is a pain in the butt to pour into my old ALL bottles. It is clumpy when using but it cleans fine. I am just wanting that perfect soap. Want to make it great. Can anyone help me?

More Water?

The recipe I've used has alot more water in it. It is on this website: http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm. Mine came out as a big mass of gel, until I stirred it up a bit. I then used a stick blender (immursion blender) to really mix it up and get the gel distributed throughout the liquid. Good luck!

hmmm

never though of REMIXING it... Well I stir it but not with a mixer or anything. The water is alot more when you fill the jugs up with it. I really like the recipe because it all JUST FITS in my pan! lol

Sounds like you need more HOT water mixed in, that's all :)

Mine will still come out in blobs sometimes--I know I need more hot water and a good shake up of the bottle and it works out....it tends to gel up on me all the time--I need more water and that does the trick! :)
