Ever Wonder What to Blog About? I Do....
Posted on Tuesday 15 April 2008 at 09:05
However, I just got rid of the dino dial-up (WOOHOO), so I'm now able to access a lot more information. Here's what has resulted:
Added a bazillion news feeds from all over the world to my RSS reader.
Started a YahooGroup for brainstorming blogging ideas, where I can post links to a wide variety of news topics. (ChristianBloggersHitList is found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CBHL/, for anyone interested.)
Having great fun sorting through all the amazing news stories out there. For instance, this week, I found one on how classical music causes climate change. The solution involved cow manure. Now that's how to tickle my funny bone.
And, of course, we're greatly enjoying being able to bribe the kids to do their schoolwork with classic Looney Tunes clips on YouTube.

Lettuce do Technorati
Posted on Sunday 12 August 2007 at 10:46
So I decided to try this Technorati thing. I'm still not even totally sure what it is, but apparently it's supposed to give bloggers extra clicky-buttons to put on their sites and such. I've heard about why it's good, but haven't got the technical details sorted out in my head yet. It's the wrong season for that. All is August, with harvest and frost threats competing to see which will come in first.
Today: More weeding. Seems like I just get something cleaned up, and I have to go back to where I started and get on it again. It's as if I never did weed those cucumbers.... Ah, well, I guess that's the blessing of too much rain. It germinates everything. If I could actually keep up fully, this would be a great year to eliminate a lot of weeds for following seasons.
On the Biodiesel Front: I am slowly, sort of, learning to be Dave's gopher in the biodiesel room. I kinda know what to do, though I don't know how to do the chemical process correctly. The point is mostly to save him some time when he's working a lot, which is almost all the time, this summer.
In Cow News: We are looking to sell the milk cow. It's not her; it's us. We're finding it a bit too restrictive in terms of being able to get out and visit people of an evening, accept supper invitations, and get to church without chaos taking over. Not to mention Dave actually being able to take a few days here and there, and get away from everything. Home is also a workplace for both of us, so that ability to go elsewhere is crucial if we're ever to genuinely relax.

Latter Rain
Posted on Monday 6 August 2007 at 03:12
Who would've thought, after all the rain this spring, that I'd be glad to see a bit more? Like ancient Israel, we do experience early and late rains here--the late ones being smaller and less reliable.
It's been so dry that the ground has hardened. I can't even till around the edge of the garden in some places; it's like rock. But the scorching heat is now gone, hopefully to stay that way.
As of August 1st, it immediately felt like August. It was the strangest thing--but then, our weather has been wild and unpredictable all year. The air became cooler, the winds changed. Then we began to have a bit more cloud cover. And this morning, when I went out to find the cow, I saw a sky of deep, dark smoky blue in the northwest. The colour of rain coming.
I thought this, too, would pass, but it began to drizzle, until the whole world was enveloped in grey above and a steady, gentle dripping. It feels like roses budding, long days, and a harvest coming. The smell of sweet living things is in the air.
The year will end soon. Too soon, I think, this time. Last year seemed long, but for the moment, I feel the change of leaf too close by. Of course, I may change my mind the next time the wind changes direction. It all depends what it brings with it.

Slap! Slap! Slap!
Posted on Monday 23 July 2007 at 02:39
That would be the sound of me getting tagged by three different friends. I might as well say tagged upside the back of the head, being as I haven't been paying much attention to where I'm going around here lately. Oh! Oh? Tagged..? (Ahem) Of course. I knew that.
I recently did the Meme of 8 over at my comfy cyber-couch. However, it thrills me to no end to participate in the 6 Pet Peeves right here.
1) Church censorship. Y'know, it's bad enough the world doesn't like us talking about the Bible, but how much worse when the church leadership refuses the Bible as a credible source of guidance?
2) Kids who don't listen. Mine, at this exact moment.
3) People who give knee-jerk reactions to controversial issues, instead of creating their own individual, informed and considered opinion.
4) Weeds.
5) My own lack of organization and motivation this summer.
6) So much to do, so little time. I hate that.
7) As a bonus, picking people to tag. I usually refuse to pass on the joy.

Cold Rain
Posted on Friday 4 May 2007 at 01:19
I should be pluckier than this. I should not be sitting here hiding indoors. I should be out in the 8 degree weather, planting shelterbelt trees in the rain. This is the perfect weather for moving trees.
But, no. I'm being a chicken. Yesterday, in the 20 degree heat, the wind was hitting 70 km/hr. (Not miles per hour.) The house was rattling. My mom reported that their canvas temporary shed was all ripped and flapping about, even in their well-treed yard.
Today, the wind is still up, though about half as strong. I don't get it. It looks like it should be still and drizzly, but no, it's gusty and yucky. Ahhhh, spring. Oh, well, we don't have to feel bad about taking the time to get a podcast recorded for tomorrow. We can just look out the wet window while we sing like the birds of the forest.
While I think of it, I posted a few home-finishing photos over at my other HSB blog. We actually have an almost-finished basement room - oh, the excitement!
