More Scenes From Long Ago

My Granddad taught me a lot of little details and principles about art and about oil painting. I was intimidated by the thought of trying oils, but when my grandmother gave me Grandy's old set several years ago, I found an affinity for it.

That doesn't mean I've gotten good at it - in fact, I've barely picked up brush or pencil in the last two years. Instead, I've found that writing is to me what painting was to Grandy - an obsession with learning technique and developing skill for its own sake. Art may get that way again once I don't have a pack of people around to spill the mineral spirits and stick their fingers in the palette. For now, writing is cleaner and less risky to the house.
