Even though we live in an area of the country not know for it's dramatic change in seasons, we still enjoy the seasons in our own way. I love fall and the signs of fall here in N. Central FL. Here is my little Maple tree that my sons planted for me a couple of years ago. It's certainly not the awesome orange, red and gold color forests that you Northerners are so blessed to see, but I was so excited to find that it's actually showing some fall color!! (...see the three rust colored leaves?)
In late Sept. until spring, we host flocks and flocks of Sandhill Cranes that winter here each year. We look forward to their arrival, which is always announced by the sound of their eeiry, trilling calls as they fly over on their way to the open fields and pecan groves where they feed throughout the day. They're beautiful birds in a gangly sort of way. One of my favorite things about them is that they mate for life. You often see them in pairs.
This morning, while on my walk, I heard the first arrivals of the season calling out to each other in the early morning mist. Welcome back birdies!
Each October is Pecan harvesting time. For years, our pecan farming neighbor has hired the children to pick up pecans each fall. He has a special device that he attaches onto his tractor that shakes the tree, making all of the pecans fall to the ground. The kids are hired to pick up the pecans from his very favorite trees. Special nuts with names like 'Cape Fear' and 'Delightful.' The rest of the grove gets taken care of by large machines after that.
Your maple tree looks so beautiful with the fall colors in bloom. This makes me want to pick up and drive to the mountains right now. I'm so ready to see the Lord do his work for this season. Beautiful S&T.
I just love your pictures friend. Your tree is to sweet. I took a picture of my dogwood the other day. It is the first year I have seen the fall berries so brilliant in color. I will have to post a photo for you to see. Your birdie friends are precious. We had two blue herrions here and I miss them. I don't think they migrate anywhere, just leave the river bed for a quieter place.
Have a blessed fall friend.,
Love ya
I love the photos that you shared : ) especially the cranes. We love to watch the birds and I have never seen a crane. The closest thing to something that looks like them would be our heron that sits at our pond. But he doesn't like his picture taken *grin*

Welcome to my lazy little place on the web. A place to slow down and take an occasional break from the everyday routine.
About Us...
My sweet hubbie took the quirky little picture you see above. Contrary to what it may seem to indicate, the kids and I are not usually found sitting around together looking like sardines packed in mustard sauce. We were actually loaded up in our little space capsule at the St. Louis Arch - ready to ride to the top! Now THAT was a cool field trip!!
When we're not on field trips, you'll find us living our dream on a lovely little lake in the Lake Region of N. Central Florida - with lots of cows, horses, raccoons, opossums and gators for neighbors (...there are a few humans as neighbors too!). We're in our 14th year of homeschooling, and even though all of our homeschooling children are now high schoolers, we still enjoy the eclectic, hands-on, literature based learning style that we always have. The Lord has blessed us in so many ways, and to Him, alone, we give all the praise and glory!
Soli Deo Gloria!!

We are...
...a Christian family desiring to raise our children with the primary focus on Training their Hearts!
III John 1:4
"I have no greater joy, than to hear my children walk in truth."
Proverbs 22:6
"Train up the child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it"
Deuteronomy 5:29
"Oh that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always,so that it might go well with them and theirchildren forever!"
Train up a child in the way he should go— but be sure you go that way yourself.
The character of our children tomorrow depends on what we put into their hearts today.
