HS event

A fellow HSler hosted a 'playdate'. WHAT  HOOT!  Those ladies are a riot! Joey was a bit of a pill, but I guess he got over it. I don't know if he's missing Mat or what.

And next week (when I host), one lady is bringing me kombucha 'scobies'?? The starts!LOL I learned of a few other things as well--where I can get raw milk (to make kefir), different butchers, etc. And another lady is bringing me more goat's milk soap! She also makes and sells goat milk cheese and makes some dip that she's supposed to bring next week. The ladies who had it were raving about it!

Probably the funniest thing was that there were 2 ladies there and they both looked familiar. I'm pretty sure that one is DH's customer. I met her at one other HS event. I think we might have scared her off this time tho.........LOL I heard the other one mention horseman's name, but it wasn't clicking so I figured that I had just seen her there at one time or another. So she asks me if I am 'the one'. I said, I  don't know, but you mentioned horseman's name and I live on his road so I"m going to guess yes!ROTFL! Turns out she's the lady who stopped by in the dead of winter once and Dh had the quilt nailed to the front door and I had to talk to her while I was stooped over thru the screen in my bedroom window (the porch runs along there)!ROTFL! So we had a lovely chuckle about how DH winterizes the inside of hte house......:)

Well I wound up just not feeling well today. I know this is all weather related, but it seems to be getting worse the older I get?!?!?! Plus I think I'm getting SICK!!!!!!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!! At any rate, I made the chicken salad--just mixed up some chicken, mayo, celery, pecans adn honey. I also have the stock done.

I think the only thing left is to get Mat's history/geography on the computer for when he gets back.

But that was put on hold cuz I tried to nap. Not very well since the phone kept ringing. Mat was in the basement playing quietly, which was nice.

sore

Yesterday was squats and lunges and OUCH OUCH OUCH! Naturally, today was MORE squats and lunges. At least I won't be as sore tomorrow.

I have mopped, vacuumed, dusted, cleaned the bathrooms, have laundry caught up, chicken stock is boiling and Joey's school is done. I was pretty impressed. I sent Joey to the garden to get me an onion and he did! I truly wasn't sure WHAT he'd bring back!ROTFL!

I was going to make chicken enchiladas for tonight's supper, but I don't have any flour tortillas! I know I could make them, but I gave the noodle maker back to my mom and that's how I flattened them. So I'm going to ask DH to pick some up adn we'll have that tomorrow night. We'll have chicken salad tonight and I'll make that this afternoon.

Joey and I didn't do much today. I did some laundry and we went to the summer reading program and then to the 4H fair. I have a chicken in the CP. I had to let it thaw and cram it in there!LOL These things are HUGE! But I'm making stock tomorrow and chicken salad at some point since Mat doesn't like it. He's not here to complain about it!LOL And I'll make chicken spinach alfredo for lunch one day. OH YUM!

combining errands....

While combining errands is certainly gas and time efficient, it makes for LONG DAYS! I left at 11 and got home at 6! I went to the PO, met my mom adn sister for lunch and to swap veggies for boys (;0), off to the library for their reading program party, to goodwill, bowling, grocery, pet store and bulk food store. It's all put away. I need to update the checkbook,  but we didn't spend much so I'm not super worried.

I did get another killer headache and it's still hanging around. This morning before I left, I picked beets, onions and peas. I'm goign to try to sell the beets and onions and I shelled all the peas for supper. So we're having beets, peas and cheeseburgers for supper.

ATTENTION OHIO HOMESCHOOLERS!!! OHIO LAW IN JEOPARDY!!

Ohio homeschool law is up for review!!  PLEASE read the notice below and PLEASE go to the website given!!!  This is SO IMPORTANT!!!  We face the possibility of losing the law we have enjoyed since 1989!!!   KW<><

Ohio--Urgent--Your Help is Needed to Stop
Revisions of the Homeschool Regulations!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

If Ohio homeschoolers do not act, they may face stricter homeschool
regulations.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Ohio Department of
Education (ODE) has initiated a formal review process of the home
education rules in the Ohio Administrative Code Section 3301-34.  It
is imperative that every Ohio resident who is concerned about
homeschooling freedom register his or her opinion regarding proposed
changes.  The comment period is now open and will last only until
August 8.

Ohio law dictates that the ODE review regulations every 5 years to
determine what changes, if any, should be made.  O.A.C. 3301-34 was
enacted in 1989, and until now, the ODE has not found any revisions to
be necessary during the 5-year review.  Even though the regulations
have worked very well for the past 19 years, the ODE has decided that
this time, changes are warranted.

The most important message Ohio residents can convey to the ODE is
that the regulations do not need to change.  If enough people support
the current regulations, we may be able to stop the revision process
before it begins.

ACTION NEEDED

1. Go to
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=5316 and register your
comments about the ODE's intent to change O.A.C. 3301-34.  The
deadline to comment is August 8.

2. Forward this message to others.  Anyone who is a "stakeholder" may
register comments.  This means that if you homeschool in Ohio, have
previously homeschooled in Ohio, are considering homeschooling in
Ohio, or have a family member or friend who is homeschooling in Ohio,
you may comment to the ODE.

3. It is important to comment in your own words--please do not simply
copy and paste someone else's message.  If your message is not
original, it is possible that it will not be counted as an individual
response.

Ohio homeschool leaders are also closely monitoring this situation.
For more information on the review process, please visit
http://ohiohsalert.org/ .

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.

Let the canning begin!

Well I did it! I started canning today. I canned 8 pints of pickled beets and have 4 pints of peeled and diced beets in the frig (I harvested too many.;)) And that's all the beets that I plan on canning. I'm going to pick some to sell for tomorrow.

I'm also about halfway thru laundry. I simply forgot I was doing it w/all the beet canning!ROTFL! So now I've showered and cleaned up the kitchen and still have discolored fingernails from the beets, but that's OK. This too shall pass!ROTFL!

Well today was nice! My mom and I went to Johnny Carino's for lunch--YUM! I LOVE the canoli's there (I've had them all of twice!;) ) The boys last day of their math class was today and they both really liked it. Then I wondered around Macy's for an hour trying to find a dress. I did not find anything, but that's OK. I got home a bit after 5 so I browned some meat for DH's supper and took it easy.

Dh did bring home 2 boxes so that I can get those clothes boxed up and ready ot mail tomorrow. Dh also wants me to can beets. They are MORE than ready. I told him that I was just going to do one canner load (so about 8 pints). I have the lids so I"m ready. I guess it will be an easy way to ease into canning again. WE'll eat and sell the rest. I just have no idea how much to charge for beets!

I also started spraying the fruit trees. I really hate to do it, but the japanese beetles are SO BAD! I can't find anything else that works.
