Nuts!

Its pretty quiet right now. Except for the thunking of copious amounts of walnuts tumbling out the three in the back yard. I’ve been watching Sassafras out their in the yard with buckets- diligently filling each with walnuts- dumping and filling some more. She’s about got hit a few times with the ka-thunking nuts but continues to steadfastly fill buckets. I am amazed at her diligence and stick-to-it-iveness. I doubt I’d be out there singing and talking to myself and continuing picking up (well, I would be doing the talking to myself part)- I’m sure I’d have quit after the about the 3rd five gallon bucketful. I would probably have shaken my fist at that tree and murmured a few things when it kept showering down more nuts. I doubt I would have persevered as she is. She’s been out their for a good half hour or so. It is a joy to watch my beautiful daughter in the warm afternoon sun.
I do believe I have it in me to join her and fill up a couple of buckets.
And then
Perhaps
a bit of sweet chocolate for the two of us.

Fab Friday

I say Fab because the weather is just that, fabulous! It is cool but not cold, the kind where you open up your windows and the breeze blows the curtains around, LOVE IT!

Grinding was suppose to start today but they have pushed it back until Monday, which is OK with me. Hubby can take an extra weekend to relax before he starts working nonstop for the next three months. The money is great, but he gets tired of it after a month or so. I don't blame him either, I worked grinding several years in the scale house, and it does take a toll on you. Seven days a weeks for weeks and weeks.

So for lunch hubby wants to go to his favorite eat out, Pizza Hut. I personally don't care for them but he loves it, so Pizza Hut it is. Then it's off to see mom for a bit at the home, a quick stop at the grocery store for a few items, and then home to wait for my dear friend Debbie who is coming for a weekend visit. With the holidays kicking up soon, we are getting a visit in before things get too hectic for visiting.

So thats pretty much me weekend, chatting, swinging, porching, garage saleing, malling, eating out, and did I mention chatting. The guys will be doing some hunting.  So I hope everyone else is going to have a great weekend ahead. Call you BFFs and chat some.

God delights to increase the faith of his children. We ought,
instead of wanting no trials before victory, no exercise for
patience, to be willing to take them from God's hands as a
means. Trials, obstacles, difficulties, and sometimes defeats,
are the very food of faith.

The weather here is beautiful

For the past month I've had the house open. Enjoying the cool breezes and the soft patter of rain over the past two days.

Tonight as I sit here listening to the crickets, toads, and off in the distance I hear the coyotes and their cries. It makes me so thankful to be able to live in the country.

We are on a paved road that during the day has a bit of traffic, they boys all like to get the logging trucks to honk at them, but after a time it all dies down and then we can hear nature. There is a rather loud cricket at the window now looking for a mate perhaps?

There is this spot up in the wooden part of our place that I am planning on building a small cabin. I think that I want it to be our one room school house. But then I find really nice cabins and think it is so much shadier back there ir would make a nice area for our home. Not that there is anything wrong with this house, but I prefer to have my home under the shade of many a tree.

But for now I am just going to keep dreaming and planning, then once I have it all figured out I will make it happen.

The boys and I are also working on a double project, well there is more than that but they have decided that they want to build the first set of triple bunks. I've already bought the plans for them, I just need to go to the lumber yard and find out what all the lumber is going to cost plus delivery, as I don't have a trailer or a trailer hitch for that matter. The other thing that they want to do is build an outside storage building, a chicken coop, a playhouse/fort, and I'd like a greenhouse. All in due time I am sure as I am not sure wher I want some of these located, I have to make sure that DH can get the truck and trailer in and out when he's home. Wouldn't want to build something only to find that it's in his way.

I am getting every Tervis tumblers for Christmas and that is it. Might also get them a new tire swing or playset. I'd like to get some bookshelves from IKEA, then I could just fill a whole wall and hopefully get everything out of boxes. I love books so I would still buy more, but since we homeschool and don't really have a decent library close by it would all be good. Perhaps when I build my cabin, I can make this house our library, with it's own little coffee shop.

Up to late and need to get a ton done tomorrow.

Blessings,
Debi

But like my Dear Sweet Husband and Best Friend says " Lin , it is not about You, its about Christ in you. " So with his blessing I will post here on some issues I have faced over the years as a godly woman and Mamma.

It has been very hard on us the past 2 months. DH lost he job of almost 20 years. He is not a young man and  a job has been hard to find.  He has one starting Monday. The pay is not much, no insurance to speak of, it is hundreds of miles from home ( I miss him already!) But it is a job. It will do until God sends something better!

Well here I am going on my second week in AL, I never even thought I would get here to visit my daughter, much less be here this long.
Mark is in NY getting out stuff and bringing it back to Linden this week coming up and then coming down to get the children and I and take us home so to say to Linden.  We are staying out on Old Hwy 13 in our RV while we wait for the house we want to rent for the winter  to become available.  Mr. Sam and his wife Daine are nice christian folks and rent us the space next to his matianance mans place and I can keep my goats there with me too.  They homeschool and just are the sweetest folks to us.  The Lord was good to lead us to meet them and them let us stay there till we get a real home for the winter. ( Lady who is to be our landlord had to evict the lady who lives there out for non payment, so we had to wait a month or so longer to get the home. Should be Nov 2nd or 12th , time will tell.)   Lordwilling we will be living in Lobelville in a nice Doublewide with a wood burning fireplace in the Livingroom, Screen Porch on the one end and porches front and back, very private area also.
Living in the RV for 9 weeks, wasnt what we had planned but the Lord provided it and so we are using it as our home till he gives us another one.  Being down here without Mark arround is not an exsperience I enjoy.  Things with my own daughter are far different then the way we live or what we desire for our own children.  My granddaughters go to Head Start Daily and other things just sorta get to me, but I am biding my time till we go home.  My own children miss having a home to live in, the adventure at times has been fun, but at times very trying on us.
The goats are living in the stock trailer and I have no fence for them and of all things were in Town. The trains at night are too many and too noisey that  is for sure, traffic is alot here too near 78. If I had a way to get back to Linden, I would go now.  Small town living in the country is more my speed that is for sure.  The goats are doing well. Magnolia kidded with triplet purebred 6th gen mini nubian babies, 2 bucks and 1 doe. I only have their dam and a non related buck now.  My buck won 1st place in intermediate bucks on MDGAs Virtual show online, so I am pleased with him and my new kids too.  Only thing is Mark would rather I sold them and that we didnt have animals till we have our own land.  I am a bit heartbroken over that but I am not arguing.  They should be in a barn and on pasture and not in town !  I did sell two to a lady in TN up in Cunningham, she is so pleased with them and I am so happy to have her have them on her farm.

Please pray for Marks traveling mercies and safe return with out things in the RV and in a trailer he is hauling. Pray it ,keeps running and  brings him safely home.

Also pray for us , we need a vechile that our family can drive to the store and such after we get settled or before, have not found one yet. Truck or mini van or reg van would do, with towing capabilites.  So we dont need to drive the RV everywhere we go.

I cannot wait to settle, get back to "normal life" baking , cooking , sewing, and spending time with my best friend and sweetheart.

Faith 6 and Hope 5 are so wanting a home. Daniel is 8 months old growing like a well fed calf and he just seems to be a happy baby. He wasnt too happy cutting teeth this week. He now has 4 , 2 top and 2 bottom.
Would you believe he just fits into 18 months clothing.  He is tall and heavy.

Well I am tired and needing to get to bed.  I hope all is well in your homes and I can't wait to meet those of you nearby home when I get there.
Debi, its near your not far away and thank you for letting me know what is up with in the neighbourhood.

Love and blessings to all
Linda

Thankful Thursday/Using what the Army gave us

I have to give praise and thanks to the people who came to rescue during our time after Gustav hit us. We received help from several different organizations. The Salvation Army and the Red Cross  gave out cleaning and personal items by the buckets full. We decided not to take any of these items. I was looked at as snobish by my sisters in law, but it wasn't that I thought I was too good for these things, it was that we didn't feel we needed it and would have rather had someone else have it that did need it.  Also very thankful for the many power company trucks and workers that came in from other states to help restore our power lines. We actually had a crew from Alabama get us back on. Thanks guys!

Another group was the Army National Guard, they were a trememdous help to us. They gave out water, tarps, ice, and food, which we did need and took. The food came in the form of MREs, meals ready to eat. These packages are a wonderful assortment of foods. Everything from spaghetti and meatballs to Mexican food, and I have to say, that what I tasted was great. I didn't eat any of these meals due to the high fat and carb content in them, but my boys did.  They are made for soldiers who need the protein and carb fill to keep going in the fields, so I understood why they were like that.  These packages also contained several others items such as drinks mixes, crackers, a tube of peanut butter or cheese spread,  poptarts and/or several types of baked goods (which were delish), candy, and packages of fruit, just to mention a few items. These meals are made to feed a person for the whole day on one meal pack if need be. They even came with these tiny little bottles of Louisiana hot sauce, which I thought was too cute.

*If my camera was working I would take a picture of one of these great little meal thingys.

I ended up keeping all the odds and ends that were in the meal packs that my boys didn't eat, such as the hot sauce, the crackers, the baked goods, the peanut butter, and the friut. The items have a shelf life of three years, so I stocked them on my shelf in my pantry, lol.   So this morning I used some of the friut to make muffins with, and they came out so good too.  I made cranberry and blueberry muffins. At first I thought Hummm maybe not, but to my surprise they were very good. My son ate 4 of them, so I know they were good, lol.

Well the weather is gorgeous outside, thank you God,  so I think we will go do school on the patio. Have a great day everyone.
