What a conglomeration we have!

Posted in Turtles, and lizards, and chickens OH MY
Oh, what a conglomeration of animals we have!  We have a rooster and 2 hamburg hens, a white rock rooster, hen, and pullet, 9 aurucanas and a rooster, Toby (an 8 year old Lhasa mix), Rhett Butle (an 11 year old Yorkie with severe issues-he was a rescue from a home where the hubby beat the wife), Dozer (a 3 yr old Boxer...the best dog in the world!!), Buster (a very old bird dog with arthritis and cancer), Mickey (a very old mutt dog that the vet told me would never live when he was left tied as a tiny pup to my fence with distemper), and Buddy (a rottie mix desperately needing a home-we found him dumped and shot), numerous cats (HopAlong the three legged one, Grasshopper the one eyed one, Bertha the club footed one and many more) because we used to work with a cat rescue and ended up with a special needs house, BawBaw the blue and gold macaw, Fanny the cockatoo, Goose the grey, Max tne jenday, Pooh the lovebird, Jack and Diane the parakeets, Tony, Ethel, Dizzy, Cecil, Sassy the cockatiels, Dude the turtle, and Buddy the dragon lizard.  Too many too feed I know but what do you do when they are all already here?!  Luckily, we do get free food once a year from a large distributor and that really helps out.  We are trying to find homes for some of the cats but no one ever wants adults.  We just love them and they love us and we all get along just fine

January 3, 2006 - rescues

Posted by CarlinsDarlin
Sounds like you have a zoo, too :). I do understand how you can end up with so many critters :). I was doing bird rescue for some time, and at one point had 14. We have found homes for all but the 6 we have now, though, and I figure they'll be with us for life. The "fab four" as Carlin calls them, Emmy, Sweepea, Peppy & Pretty Boy, are not going anywhere, and the two parakeets are with us by default, too. Sidekick is named that because the poor baby has splayed legs. He manages fine, but his cage has to be set up handicap accessible, so only a very special home would get him. How did you manage to get the distributor to donate food? I could sure use that here :).
