Fasting

Posted in Healthy Living

For thousands of years many people have fasted from something or another.  Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights.  The main health benefits of fasting are giving your digestion and organs a rest, cleaning your colon and liver, losing weight, and after the first 3 days you have more energy.

Outside of health reasons there is a spiritual reason to fast.  When you rid yourself of toxins you really feel closer to the Lord.  You are much more clear headed and spiritually connected.  I feel like I can "hear" what the Lord is telling me.  I am able to make specific life goals and accomplish them.  I'm able to deal with issues that normally affect me easier.

Keep in mind that my husband is a Naturopathic Doctor so he prescribes this quite frequently.  Dr. Jordan Rubin recommends in "The Maker's Diet" at least 1 partial day a week of fasting.  Pick 1 day that will work best for you and skip breakfast and lunch and then eat a sensible dinner.  Make sure you drink herbal teas and lemon water throughout the day.

The fast that my husband and I are beginning is one we do at least twice a year.  It is a colon cleanse from Blessed Herbs (www.blessedherbs.com).  For 2-3 days prior to beginning we primarily eat only fruits, veggies, brown rice, and (hubby only) fish.  Then soup and teas for a day.  All of this is to cleanse a little before the big cleanse so that your body doesn't completely shut down from lack of food.  Then for 6-8 days, depending on when you dispose of your mucosal lining, you do a juice fast.  You drink organic apple juice that is not from concentrate mixed with powder packets from Blessed Herbs.  These packets contain psyllium, apple pectin, and bentonite clay for absorption of toxins and to keep you regular.  Again, make sure if you do the cleanse that you drink water and green/white tea throughout the day.  The first 3 days are horrible because you're so hungry, but after that your life seems to change radically because of the clear mind and body.  You know that you are finished with the cleanse when your poo looks like a long braided snake.  You'll think you are going to die because you can't stop pooing.  You then will feel so much better.  As with all medical decisions make sure you ask your physician or integrative medical practitioner.

Whether you fast for a week or for only a few hours.  Fasting can do wonders for your body, mind, and most importantly, soul. Please pray that I can get down the packets of powder for my esophagus closes up and I end up spitting up my food.

Blessings,

~Farrah

We find that just the act of narrowing what is in our bodies while we pray is so helpful....we so take for granted what the sugars, etc do to us...last year was a major learning for me in that area as we began to narrow our intakes!

How wonderful that your husband is a naturpathic doctor! I keep telling my kids that one of them should become a naturpath! :)

I have been wondering about cleansing..... we fast once a month - for religious reasons -- but I can see the benefits of doing a cleanse.....

Please share the results of how it goes with us......
