Hey Y'all! I just wanted y'all to know that, yes, I am alive, though only barely. For the last 8 days I have been in the hospital. We thought I was having heart issues. After many tests, including an angiogram, they concluded that though I have some blockage, it isn't my heart causing my troubles. What troubles? Shortness of breath, chest pain, neck pain, upper back pain, numbness in my left arm, and fatigue. Combine with my family history (Dad having heart attacks at age 29 and Grandfather dying of heart failure at age 29) and current cardiac blood work, it was likely that I was suffering from heart issues of some sort. Turns out that I've chosen to follow (in many ways) another family member-my paternal Grandmother. We have a really bad sphincter. Your sphincter is near your diaphram that opens and closes from your esophagus to your stomach. Apparently, they feel the need to lock. This causes, severe in my case, esophageal spasms. These spasms constrict your airways and do something to the nerve fibers. This in turn does put pressure on your heart. I see my GI doctor on Tuesday to set up a scope and ballooning of my esophagus. Until then it's back to baby food and broth for awhile and nitroglycerine to open my airways if necessary. Terrible during the holidays with all of the good food. However, I really don't want to go back to the hospital. I've mentioned before my fast food addiction. Well, this has stopped it! I have been knocked down. Homesteaders, eat from your home, walk, and take digestive enzymes. Take care of yourselves! Blessings, ~Farrah |
