sewing classes

Posted in Homemaking

Today I signed up for sewing basics 1 to make a beach wrap or pajama bottoms and sewing basics 2 to make a summer top.  I'm so excited, especially since I received a 25% off coupon for the classes and a 20% off coupon for my supplies.  My stitches by hand are actually really good, but I think it may be better if I have a machine.  Joann's Fabrics (where I'm taking the classes) are going to let me use their Viking machines.  What type of sewing machines do you avid sewers use?  My husband said he'd buy me one to start.  I'd love to get one with a monogramming attachment, but Costco has a basic one for $99 so that's probably the one I'd use.  Monogramming is so popular right now, so hopefully once I make some money selling clothes and purses I can get a monogramming attachment.

I am always look for a way to make money from home.  I have a friend in my bible study that sews children's clothes and she's looking for a seamstress.  This would be a nice way for me to be able to stay home with the boys and make money.  God does provide!

Have an Awesome weekend!

Blessings,

~Farrah

Not really an avid sewer, but would like to do a whole lot more that what I currently do. I have a Brother XL-3500i that I got off of HSN, they sell one that is very close to mine at Walmart, but I think that mine came with a lot of different feet and attachments that I don't really understand how to use yet. In time though I hope to use them all with ease.

I am self teaching how to sew, making mistakes along the way but that is how we learn. Good luck in your class, sounds like fun.

Blessings,
Debi

Wow, that sounds really exciting to me. How blessed you are to be able to take the classes and what a sweet hubby! I do have a machine (Brother) but I could really use a beginners class. I don't think we have any place around here that offers them though. Have fun!

I am not an avid sewer but I go in spurts. I have an antique Singer from like 1901 that was my great, great, grandma's (yes they still make the belts for them!) and my mom bought me a White called Jean's Machine. I love both of these the Singer will even sew sailcloth and jeans (denim) with no problems. The White has fancy stitches and some embriodery things that it can do (when I figure out how!) and somehow will do monograms (don't know how to do it though but the book says it can). I try to avoid fancier stuff because that would require thinking and when I sew I want to relax (with my kids running around at ages 3 and 6 I do simple stuff right now!) The cheaper machines are fine just be sure to follow the manufacturers insturctions for cleaning and oiling (they are all different) and you should be fine. Enjoy your classes!
