auto fuel part 2

I have written a previous blog on sources of alternative fuel.  In our local paper www.ajc.com.  There is an article on legislation giving gas stations that are ethynol adapted monetary incentives.  This a major step in the right direction.

Ethynol is a type of fuel brewed from corn.  I do not know about those of you that are constantly fighting high fructose corn syrup in foods.  We can use that corn for good use instead of giving us diabetes!

Do you know if cars have to be specifically designed in order to use ethynol?  When we get our next car we are going to get a hybrid of some sort.  That way we can save money, help the environment, receive tax benefit, and stop use of foreign oil.

The gas prices in our area are $2.79 on average. It is ridiculous as the cost of oil per barrel is lower right now. The whole thing is a money scheme brought on by the oil companies. They do not even realize that the government is going to have to step in eventually, which will send our whole structure into Capitalism. I will step down off my soap box now. However, I will say that the greed for the almighty dollar is appauling.

Tuesday, April 10, 2007 - Land of ethanol...

Posted by mulberrylane

I live in the land of ethanol. We have several plants around us. Beings it is close, you would think it would bring gas prices down, but no... we see that ethanol prices are rising due to the fact that corn is now a limited commodity. (our regular unleaded is cheaper than the ethanol priced gas). Corn prices are rising so much that those of us who raise animals are crumbling under record high corn prices. $4 a bushel or higher is too much to pay to raise some ram lambs... we will be selling as soon as they wean. Beef prices are going out the roof, as high as $3.50 a pound for hamburger and upwards of $7 a pound depending on the cut... that's getting as high as specialty meats like lamb.
The outlook is not good for those that need corn... meat prices will continue to rise, as ethanol plants are not going to fold up and walk away from these expensive plants. Corn just can't go that far... the farmers cannot grow enough and in effort to do so there is prediction that farmers will dig up hay ground to make way for more corn, meaning less hay for the animals and more expensive for those raising animals to get it. It is a tentative gain. Dh says he's waiting for the bottom to fall out. I'm trying to be optimistic, but it is getting harder when our usual corn output for the sheep is around $100 and we paid over $300 and we didn't get corn, couldn't afford it, so we bought corn refuse from the ethanol plants... supposed to be ok nutritionally... but UGH.... just makes us sick... we got pelleted corn, basically... and it gets soggy with a high moisture day... not a good deal at all.
