Sweet Tea

Posted in Menus and Recipes

As a Southerner, there is nothing better than sweet tea.  If you're like me, you drink it year round.  There is almost always a pitcher of sweet tea in my Frigidaire.  I love it!  It is especially nice on warm days.  I even drink sweetened herbal tea at night.  The odd thing is that I do not have a particularly sweet tooth, but I have to have my tea!  If you are travelling the best sweet tea's, in my opinion, are Chick-fil-A's (everything they have is dee-lish) and Sonic.  Here is my two recipes for sweet tea:

With Iced Tea Maker- Fill up to water sign on pitcher then pour water into maker. In the tea holder place 1 family sized tea bag per quart, I use 3 Luzianne's, into filter lined holder. It calls for ice at this time-DO NOT USE.  Brew until light goes off.  Add 2 cups of sugar or 1/2 cup honey. Add water til you hit the mark of quart size; stir with wooden spoon.  Add ice to your glass with either mint or lemon.

With Kettle/Pan- Bring 4c of water to boil in kettle/pan.  Add 7 tea bags & turn off heat immediately.  Place the lid on the kettle/pan & allow to steep for 1 hour.  Remove bags and pour tea into pitcher.  Add 1 cup of sugar 1/4 cup honey to deissolve.  Add 4 c. cold water.  Serve over ice with mint or lemon if wanted.

Have a blessed day!

Thank you for the recipes. I've seen lots of people talk about sweet tea and wondered just how it's made.

I have seen my family members almost get in a fight over HOW much sugar to add to the tea!!

I do not drink it at all. I am not sure how that happened as I grew up in a very sweet tea drinking family.
My husbands loves UNsweeten tea. Go figure...

Being a southerner, I totally understand the sweet tea phenomenon. We now drink flavored green tea. I have an ice tea maker and this is how I do it:

4 bags of regular green tea, any brand
4 bags of Lipton flavored green tea - My husband's favorite is the Orange, Passionfruit and Jasmine. I also like the Honey and Lemon flavors.

Brew as usual following the instructions for the tea maker. We sweeten with artificial sweetener ... I know I should use Stevia, but I don't think it sweetens very well.

I'm still struggling with losing the last 10 lbs. so have decided to focus instead on eating healthy and for me, that's going to be a 3-month trial of wheat and gluten free food as well as limited dairy. I'm NOT looking forward to it!

I LOVE sweet tea too. Unfortunately my waistline doesn't like it too much! I have been making mine with splenda or altern. In a 3 quart piture I use 3 family size lipton bags and 1 cup splenda. Tastes pretty good and not too much sugar. I have never heard of putting honey in sweet tea. I do put honey in hot tea though. I will have to try that one.
Take care.
