I thought I'd post a picture of my current WIP. I figured I'd better do something useful besides surf ravelry! I enjoy looking through all the patterns and looking at things that others have made. I wish that I could make so many of the things but I'm still such a newbie. I guess I'll just take it one step at a time.
This is the Tiny Birds Redux I mentioned in my previous post. I really like how nicely it's knitting up already. (I just finished row 17)
I love the colorway, it's very simple. It's a knitpicks wool yarn, but I can't remember the color. I'm not sure how well you can see it but it's a denim blue with a little red mixed in. I would love to find a self-striping yarn, but, I haven't had any luck locally. If you know of a place I can buy it online, please leave a comment.
Here is a closer pic, maybe you can see more of the detail. I will post another pic of it as I get more done. I can hardly wait to finish it and send it to my friend.
I guess I could share what I'm knitting right now. I am a beginner knitter, self-taught. See, we cloth diaper our littles and our newest blessing is almost 10 months old and is a very heavy wetter at night. The only thing I've found that works for us are wool soakers and fitteds. She's fine in covers and prefolds during the day though. Anyway, I've made a couple of Punk Rock Knitter soakers, and I like the pattern. It's very easy and knit in the round. Grafting the crotch was harder to learn than the actual knitting, lol! I don't add cuffs b/c I'm HORRIBLE at picking up stitches with dpns. But, for this next soaker I am using the Tiny Birds Redux pattern. You can find that and help with your knitting questions in this group on yahoo. Wool Soaker Group
It is knit up flat, which is new to me but I like it. I'm also using straights for the first time, I've only been able to knit with circs so far. Straights are a little harder on your hands and wrists so I'm not sure they will ever be my favorite needles. So far the soaker is a little smaller than I imagined and may not fit my 10 month old when I'm done. The yarn is gender neutral so I'm probably just going to give it to my friend that just gave birth to a sweet baby boy!
Well, that post was short, but pretty good, if I do say so my self. :) Thanks for reading. If there is anyone out there reading, lol.
Since the official start of summer vacation, we haven't done much. :) We have been busy running (well, Mom has anyway!) to appointments and errands, etc. The girls have really pitched in an have been helping a lot. May-May was stung on her foot by a bee at school about a month ago. The area became infected so she was put on antibiotics for that. Once she was over it, I didn't think much about it. She got sick about two weeks ago, I thought it was allergies at first but since it was on a Friday, we went ahead and made a trip to the pediatrician. I wanted to rule out strep or anything else that might cause us to end up in the ER over the weekend. Turns out it was an ear infection and her allergy meds weren't working so we put her on a combo of singulair and zyrtec. That hasn't been helping much either. Her pediatrician recommended we have a skin test done to see what she is allergic to since she got an infection from the bee sting. We had her appointment with the allergy specialist this week and I was SHOCKED to learn that she has asthma! The child never complained at all about having difficulty breathing and I never hear/heard any wheezing. It is just a mild case so I'm praying she will "grow out of it" as she gets older. She is on an inhaler for that and also a new nasal spray and antibiotics for INFECTED mosquito bites! I'm not fond of taking antibiotics so much but I do want her to be healthy and feel better.
I am planning to spend some time over the summer doing some fun things with the kids. Last night, I was up until after 1 a.m with the three big kids making prayer journals. We had a really fun time, laughing and just hanging out together with out any interruptions. Their creations turned out so cute!
I am so tired today though, and praying for the strength to get through the day and not be short and snappy with the kids from lack of sleep.
We had insulation blown into our attic this morning and a new a/c unit put in last week to accommodate for the new addition on the house. It is SOOOO much cooler in here, praise GOD! Summers have been miserable in here in the past.
I replanted my tomato plants this morning. I didn't do it right the first time. I had two in a pot, not good! (newbie gardener!) They look much happier now! :) Someone drowned my rose bush, so I had to replant that as well. It's teeny and was in a small bucket so I moved it to a bigger pot and tried to let it dry out some. I hope it comes bounces back. I love roses! My hostas are huge and have multiplied a lot since they were planted a couple of years ago. They are big pretty bushes now. We were doing container veggies but I think we need to graduate to a full garden bed. Our soil is mostly red clay so I think we will be using Granny's lush soil in her back yard. I hope, dh hasn't had time to get a tiller and get it tilled.
I hope you all had a pleasant Memorial Day weekend and remembered our soldiers, livng and dead. I do thank my wonderful Dh for his service to our country and the many other men and women who have and are serving every where.
Today is Madison's Birthday, she is ten years old!! I can hardly believe she is that old already. It seems such a short time ago when she was nestled in my arms wrapped in a little teeny blanket all snuggly and warm. Such a quiet and content little being. Now, a decade later, she is so sweet and tender hearted. She loves to have fun & enjoys all the frills of being a girl. She loves to play school, go to school, and is an aspiring teacher. She says she'll be in school all of her life! :D I believe her! Her Daddy sent word to all her teachers NOT to send home their unwanted worksheets and workbooks, lol. She would spend all of her summer "playing" school if she could.
Breanna will be 12 on the 29th, I can hardly believe she is that old either! She wanted to make her debut early so Mom was on bedrest fo six weeks. She was my tiniest baby of all but she is the most boisterous and fun loving of the bunch. She is ALL girl and loves to make you laugh. She loves cook and if you can imagine this, she also loves to clean! She enjoys chatting with her friends and fixing up her hair. ;)
We celebrated this past Sunday with family and friends. Actually, the girls had a joint party. It was really nice and they had lots of fun. We served bbq meatballs, a veggie tray, a fruit tray, a cookie cake for each girl, party punch (that's the name of the recipe), and nachos. Madison received over $70 and Breanna received over $50. They were so excited, now they are trying to decide what they'd like to buy with their birthday money. Our neighbor gave them each a really cute vintage beaded coin purse with a chain. They are so pretty! I love that kind of stuff.
For their gift from us, we are getting them Dance Praise 2. They have been asking for a while! I'd forgotten about it and Shelby reminded me but not in time for it to get here for their birthday. :( It has been really hectic that last two weeks but I will have to update in a later post.
I am LOVING spring now! When springs comes in, I am most often stricken with horrible allergies and spend most of my time indoors. I did have a bout with that already but it seems to be winding down. Yesterday, Shelby and I walked to Granny's and picked blackberries to go in our fresh fruit salad. We had a nice time together and had a few laughs. We didn't get many berries since most of them were taken over by weeds. Papa used to keep them cut back pretty good but since he's no longer with us, DH has to take care of it all and he hasn't had much motivation for yard work lately. Anyway, we ended up walking up the block to an abandoned house that we knew had blackberries, again, it was over taken but we managed to get a good many for our fruit salad. YUMMY! I love when the black berries come in and I anticipate them every year. It's tradition that the girls and I pick them together, however, the younger ones weren't into it much this year. Sometimes Papa would take them to Great-Grandpa's old place to pick and they would always come back with TONS of them. They miss Papa very much. We all do. He LOVED sweet tea and instead of saying he needed a refill, he'd shake his glass gently with a smile. :) It's funny how you take those things for granted.
The girls and I planted a raised bed for a small vegetable garden this year. There isn't much in it since we're waiting for our seeds to sprout, they have, and now we need to plant them but I'm hesitant since MS Kitty from around the corner keeps digging in the bed. I wonder if there is something I can do to thwart her attempts at destroying my plants. So far, we have tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, carrots, and lettuce. I have a strawberry plant from a few years back that I thought surely had died from being exposed to the freezing temps but it has managed to multiply and do okay, however, the berries shrivel up before they get ready. I don't know what we may be doing wrong. I moved them to a strawberry pot in the hopes that it would help them thrive but they haven't yet.
I have to get in gear and go search for a coat and tie for Jamie for the Purity Ball this weekend. He is short so I'm sure it will need altering but I know the ball is so close that may not happen. My feeble attempts at altering it could be disasterous, lol. I won't attempt that! I wish I had known about the Ball ahead of time. Tux is optional but he really doesn't want to wear one. He'd rather wear a coat and tie with slacks. No matter what he wears, it will make a sweet memory for the girls, no doubt!
