Mon-25-Aug-2008 - Do we really want patience or experience?
I heard recently a "story" of a young man that wanted patience. He asked an older man if he would pray for him to have patience, and the old man said yes. So they knelt down and the old man started praying: "Lord, please send this young man tribulations in the morning, send him tribulations in the afternoon-" The young man nudged him. "Not tribulations, patience!" The older man looked up. "But tribulation worketh patience, my son." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Romans 5:3-5 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am much more patient and experienced than I was three pregnancies ago . . . but I still have such a long ways to go. My temper still has a sharp edge that makes me cringe and it seems each day brings a new "tribulation" and a host of new experiences . . . may they continue to shape me into the woman God desires me to be! ~Ashley~

Tue-5-Aug-2008 - Fruit & Canning
I love this time of year. I love canning and preserving and freezing food . . . I can't help it anymore. I'm addicted to it!!!
Jonathan went to get fruit last night. He bought two boxes of peaches, and picked up two 14# boxes of free cherries that are going "bad" so they are free. We have yet to see what we can really use, but we picked out enough last night that Samuel has been eating them ever since.
He asked for apricots, they said they didn't have any, he asked them if some had been reserved, and the lady took two squished boxes and made one "good" box. Which was sold to use for $10 instead of $22 . . . . .
Drumroll, please!
I canned up 25 pints of apricots (out of 28 usable pints - some are unprocessed in the frige to eat) last night. :) That's 36 cents a jar for baby food. I LOVE IT when canning something actually saves, you know, like, money? And time. And lunch ideas for starving children who don't really, fully grasp the idea of Wait-Mommy-Isn't-Done-Reading-This-Book/Blog/Email.
I'm supposed to be sorting cherries, I suppose. I just can't get excited about it and I was a bit short on sleep last night. I stayed up part of the night enjoying the luxery of hot, hot water and a good book and Elijah kept me up part of it. Not that I was tired when he woke up, but I was by the time he went back to bed!
I need to be baking, too. We have milk that's 'turning' so I'm going to make cinnamon rolls and sour milk cake and bread and muffins and give lots of them away. I think. If I can get off my rear, that's the plan. I reckon my brother, who is supposed to bring us fresh milk, would probably enjoy half of a cake and a pan of cinnamon rolls.
Arggg! Time to get off the computer....

Tue-29-Jul-2008 - We're home!!!
When I dropped off the face of blogging it was because we were house-sitting for my in-laws. Yes, I had internet, I just took an unplanned break from blogging, LOL.
It is SO GOOD to be back home!!!
I watched a bunch of the Food Network and Animal Planet. We ate boxed cereal. We ate out. It was like a "stay-cation" as opposed to a vacation, and boy-o-boy. It was fun. It was really a change of pace!
But . . . after a week of that, I must say I LOVE not having TV to watch at home. I really missed my morning eggs - today in celebration I'm going to cook up omlets! We're home, boys!
Ironically, it's been raining off and on these last few days. In July? Yep!
