A Little About Me:

Hello! I'm Ashley - a young wife to my Beloved and mother of two sons with a suprise blessing on on the way. ********************************** The Lord is my Shepherd (Ps.23:1), the Chief Sheperd (1Pet 5:4), the Good Shepherd (John 10:14) and the Great Sheperd (Heb 13:20). As a sheep I want to know His voice and depend on Him and follow Him. I am certainly a work in progress! ********************************** Thank you for stopping by my blog. I greatly enjoy your comments, although I do not always get a chance to respond to each one. I hope you enjoy your time in my little corner of the web! ~Ashley~

Wed-16-Jul-2008 - Updates!

Posted in The Adventure, My Life

Both boys have coughs, but Samuel is teething as well. He’s one miserable little boy. He woke his daddy up several times last night, then Jonathan just had him sleep in our bed. This happens so rarely and when he’s holding his little head with his hands and crying . . . well, I don’t mind a bit. Even though he ended up with his feet in my face! Jonathan ended up at the foot of the bed laying on my feet . . . it was an interesting sleeping arrangement to say the least! Not what I’m used to!

Elijah seems to have the better of it for now. I do worry about his cough….

I am realizing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel as I near the 2nd trimester. I’m doing the dishes more than I’m leaving them, and actually staying on top of the house maybe four days out of seven.

Trust me, this is a vast improvement!!!!

I’m also pretty certain that I have felt the baby twice now – just a flicker of movement.  This is also been incredibly encouraging as I always find it difficult to “bond” with a baby I carry but don’t feel. It will be weeks before it’s consistent, I’m sure.

My garden grows on. I staked more tomatoes last night. I always let the Kansas wind buffet them around until they are falling over, then I tie them in a place or two to a piece of r-bar. I like it better than cages and I simply use panty-hose. I have plants bearing, 5 more starting to set fruit, and 7 more that are about a foot tall so they will take a while yet.

I’ve had two zucchini, one which I gave to my brother, and another is on my countertop. My best cucumber plant randomly died after yielding one cuke. My green beans are growing strong and a second patch is doing okay. My cantaloupe are blooming! I planted more squash . . . .

My mom was going to throw away a ugly, filthy working refrigerator. The plan was for me to clean it and try to sell it, but after I scrubbed it down, Jonathan and I have decided to keep it.  We had been thinking of buying another freezer, but started thinking about it and really, a fridge/freezer would be used more.

The work is progressing on the $5 dresser we found a month ago. In order to fit it, we’re going to need to get rid of the diaper changing table but I think I’m ready. The clothes for baby #3 and diapers and wipes and other odds and ends will go in this small dresser. Technically there is a bottom drawer of the boy’s dresser that could be used for baby’s clothes, but just don’t see the need to crowd the clothes into one dresser – it will be quite enough for all three little ones to share a bedroom without necessarily stuffing all the clothing into one piece of furniture.

Oh, and I canned 18 pints of potatoes today. That’s probably as many as I will do, actually. I also need to pick blackberries and get sweet corn in the freezer and buy another big 30# box of peanuts for peanut butter to can.

July is a busy month . . . .

Since I’m more interested in food I’m trying to bump my caloric intake up past 2,000 calories per day. Eating at times is so unappealing, let alone eating so much that I feel like a walking blimp! I know I need the calories while I’m pregnant and nursing (I actually need about 2,500!) but right now, getting close to 2,000 has become a mid-term goal. Ugh. I have spent the last 3 days feeling FULL from morning until night and I’m not thrilled about it . . . but I do think more clearly and have more energy. A fair trade, I suppose . . . LOL!

That’s about all that’s going on around here!

Hope your little guys get well soon, Ashley. You hang in there too and give that little wee one inside your womb a little squeeze for me. God bless him/her as he/she grows.

God bless you~ Andrea

I've never heard of canning potatoes.
Right now I'm in the same boat at the other end of the tunnel:):)
I'm trying to eat enough to nurse. I'm simply not that hungry but noticed that my milk is more abundant if I eat and drink frequently.
ps: are you still having trouble with google to get into my family site? I posted tons of pics. There are a few here at homestead too.
