A Perfect Day

Posted in CountryGirl

Today was perfect. I feel like little Emily off of the Ultimate Gift when Jason asks her what’s her perfect day… of course there were a few problems like sleeping in too late and rushing around until the guests arrived! Ah well….

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” - Winston Churchill

I’ll fill you in with birthday party photos later, but I’d like to show you a few of the birthday presents I opened on my birthday DAY.

Actually, on Thursday my Grandma Starr and Aunt Jen drove up all the way from New Mexico. It was suppose to be a surprise, but Amanda and I accidentally found out. It was so nice to see them again! Not only did they come up, but whenever Grandma comes she does our hair. I hadn’t had a perm for over a year so for my birthday she permed it. I was really excited!

After I got my hair permed, it was about 12:15 am so technically, my birthday. Auntie Christina and Kaitlyn called and sang happy birthday, which was so sweet! Than Julia called and sang happy birthday. Here is the BIP afghan that Auntie Christina made me for my birthday. She did the yarn colours in sage, navy blue, burnt orange, and a cream white.

There is a little white heart in the heart that is Auntie’s signature. That’s what I’m looking at! I had no idea she made this for me so it was a nice surprise!

This is on the morning of my birthday. This is my Grandma, Luli, and me. Grandma is playing with Lu, who wasn’t too sure about her.

This is the tag Eyebright and BlueJane made and sent with their gift. I thought it was pretty neat. Their gift was a hand-crochet shawl, which was a perfect gift! To wear over my Pride &Prejudice gowns!

Thanks so much for all the blog-parties and sweet comments! I really enjoyed looking at them. You guys continually support and encourage me!

Today ended just perfectly… Amanda, Aunt Jen, Dad, and me went to see Expelled: no Ielligence Allowed, and then I came home and read Sprittibee’s birthday post, “Sweet and 17″. Almost made me cry.

Have a Happy Mother’s Day with your mother! Love you lots Mother Dear and treasure your love and friendship always!

Feelin' Feminine

Posted in CountryGirl

I want to announce the NEW online magazine for girls, Growing In Grace, and present you with the very first issue of the magazine that was published yesterday!

For this issue I wrote two articles, Thorns and Roses- “If I just had the MONEY…”
& Think Pink- “The Basics“, and I will possibly be writing three more next issue, co-authoring one with Brielle. That will be a total of five articles for the next issue! Whew, but it’s been a lot of fun. A great way to show young ladies how to truly grow in the grace of the Lord.

2 Peter 3: 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

If you are interested, there are icons and a blogroll and a topsites and other girly things to join and put on your blog. There is also a Pet of the Month, if you or your daughters are interested in sending your entry in.

If you have a product or service that you offer online, sign up and join the Growing in Grace Top 100 Girl Vendors list. Girls of all ages are welcome!

My Mom and Amanda also wrote some articles, and Rachel will be joining us in the next issue.

Cloak and Dagger-Battling the War in Our Thoughts” by Miss Amanda
C.I.A.-What is a Friend?” By Miss Amanda
Bridging the Gap ~ Building Relationships Between Mothers and Daughters ~ “A Sweet Relationship” by Jacque Dixon

They post daily on Growing In Grace, so you can always be sure there is something new at the site. I encourage you to stop over there and check everything out!

And with all this pink and girly stuff… I’ve been feelin’ feminine, especially with Brooke’s challenge to wear skirts for one whole week and post pictures. Since I don’t go somewhere everyday and I have two skirts exactly the same I will post my “going out” outfit. In the summer I have a few more skirts/shirts to wear, but in the winter… I have this outfit (and yes I am holding sleeping Luli):

And don't forget to send in a Homestead Carnival submission in today! Kitty @ Kit's Korn will be hosting the 35th carnival!! You can use the BlogCarnival form to do so. All you do is enter in your post URL and push send! Easy has pie. ; )

Blessings!!

Reflections Of My Time

Posted in CountryGirl
I was thinking yesterday of how much the order of our house reflects the way we get our homeschool accomplished. Some people work better in an organized space; while others can do just as fine in a disorganized space. My sister, Amanda, is a perfectionist, which also makes her a very orderly person... she has to have everything perfect. She has all her files in ABC order and all her posts in one file as well as her media pictures.

Me on the other hand... well, I used to think I was a very clean/organized person, but I've realized that being clean is different from being orderly. I have everything picked up but not organized like Amanda. I can work better if all my stuff is thrown into one file... instead of going from file A to B to C.

I'd like to be more organized with my time so I can see how much I am really accomplishing and in a orderly fashion. I have a lot of things to accomplish, and I usually do.

The computer is a powerful tool and is used in many ways. Some people run their businesses online and I have known a lot of kids who use the computer, solely, for their schoolwork. I love using the computer for educational purposes. You have everything you need to learn/research at the tip of your fingers.

I have a lot of projects going on. Besides this blog, my homesteadblog, the One Blog, the Homesteading Carnival, and the *StatesExploration, I have to finish designing two templates, and I'm helping with the HSBAwards this year. That is only my computer projects. I have yet to complete my hope chest and the ebook, along with finishing up my grt Grandparent's albums and all my sewing projects.

In addition to doing all the above, I have my Saxon Algebra. The only thing I am struggling with is how I do this and when. I need to find balance with my time so it allows me to get things accomplished in a time-frame, and not dilly-dallying. There's only 24hrs in a day...

Being orderly or not can be daunting. You can get overwhelmed with a schedule that is too constricting and suffocating. Having no schedule can being overwhelming too... Having a plan or not can make you crazy. You have to have room for leniency, but you have to watch out and make sure it doesn't turn into laziness.

Same with my schooling. I don't want to be so scheduled in school that it suffocating, and it's all schedules and learning with no interest/fun; but I can't be lazy. I'd like to finish all my projects soon. I don't want to be a slacker in my house-chores, my schoolwork, or my life.

I am 16 yo and that is plenty old enough for my mom to give me a list of schoolwork for each day and expect me to complete it in a timely manner. So my mission for... the rest of my life... week is to be more orderly and disciplined. I am ready for a change.

This doesn't mean no more late movies with mom and the girls... it just means that I am going to use my sleep/time in a better, more accomplished, manner. I don't want to be a slacker in anything. I want to be accomplished and right now I am focusing on my schoolwork and my chores - doing them in an orderly fashion with a godly-attitude
