Lemons & Salt
Today I cleaned the kitchen. I want to make it sparkle. I think I accomplished my goal. I was wiping down the counters after I had done the dishes and cleared the counters. There was an old lemon sitting on the counter so I used it, with some salt, to scrub down the counter tops. It worked really well. The acid from the lemon worked like a bleach and the salt grains worked to wash, but not scratch, the surface.
I then decided to clean the copper kettle, which didn’t look very copper-ish anymore. I poured salt on the lemon and began to scrub the kettle vigorously. Within minutes the side of the kettle began to look like a brand new penny. I continued to scrub the kettle until the entire thing was sparkling.
With pride and joy, I placed it back in it’s places.
A few years my sister and I wanted to clean our pennies. I had remembered from when I was in kindergarten that my teacher showed me how to clean pennies by using vinegar and baking soda… don’t even try to imagine what happened when we did that.
I might have been wrong… it coulda been baking powder. Lol
Anyway, nothing we tried worked so we decided to look on the Internet. We found a site that said this lady accidentally squirted tocabell hot sauce on his pennies and when she wiped it off… the penny was so shinny.
So we looked in the fridge to see if we had any, and we did! We placed in on the penny and it worked perfectly! You just let the hot sauce sit on the penny for a minute and wipe it off. We also tried ketchup, which also worked well.
If you want to know why the sauces clean the pennies… I will give you a short answer: vinegar. If you want to really know why, go look it up. You’ll find some pretty interesting stuff. You could even use it has a science experiment. |

I would have never guessed ketchup or hot sauce would work for cleaning pennies. Although I have never really thought about cleaning the change I have. Even though money is really dirty. My brother cleans all of his change untill it sparkles. LOL!
