We've been busy, busy, busy. It's a wonder I blog at all, plus I have all my other blogs and sites I help with. We haven't been doing textbook school but managing the garden-plots and where to plant so we get the best results. We are also working on putting up a perimeter fence and I have several other school projects I am working on (sewing: Galadriel cloak, building a hope chest, and fixing up the goats' pen). Amanda, Rachel and I are all going to make a budget plan for our family's paychecks, which will be interesting.
Anyway, on Friday Mom and I went out to the garden for over 5 hours. We planted, planted and planted. Every year I get weary just thinking about planting a garden, but in the end, after mom makes me go out, I find I rather like stickin' my nose in the dirty. As I was working out in 'the fields' - er - garden - I thought alot about my novel. I wrote the novel based about how I would like to live my life... in the 1800s. So working out in the dirt and getting all dirty just seem to fit.
Let's see we planted: Tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, eggplant, peppers, and lima beans. We still have a ton more to do. We also need to get the corn in and maybe some flowers. Last year we had some great big sunflowers that made the garden look enchanting... along with the tall cornstalks.
This was great for summer school learning. I had to measure how far apart the tomato plants should be. I had to measure how deep I was digging the holes, how far, how straight. It was a lot of work but we did it and did it well.
Here are some pictures I took while spending the afternoon in the garden. You need to click on the bolded link to view the pictures. I didn't want to overload my blog so I thought that was easier... yes?
