"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill

Name five good things you remember about your Father....

  1. He was full of enthusiasm for life, food, beauty, God...
  2. He was full of encouragement for the things we attempted.
  3. He never missed an opportunity to hug and kiss my mom.
  4. He stuck up for my mom when I was a "know-it-all".
  5. He taught me how to ask for and give forgiveness.

Name five things you notice and love about your husband that makes him a great Dad...

  1. He loves me.
  2. He loves my kids.
  3. He likes to be around us.
  4. He makes us laugh... we love to make him laugh
  5. He is so patient, and kind...quick to listen and slow to speak.

Ernie, because he is so innocently annoying, and enthusiastic!

or the

Two Headed Monsters.

Or Grover.

or...

But never Big Bird or Ernie (too whiney).

1) To relax- do you prefer a bath with candles or a walk by yourself?

Walk at the Nature Center, just as the sun is rising...fresh, cool, thick, fragrant air.

2) On a windy day- blow bubbles or fly a kite?

 Fly a kite.

3) Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick Jr.?

Neither (sorry) there is so much I would rather listen to than either of those two.

4) You are going out to dinner- Italian, Chinese, or Mexican food?

REAL Chinese food...hard to find...I think I would like to go to Taiwan to get it. Sooo, maybe Mexican.

5) What has been the most stressful job you have ever had?

Wal-mart at Christmas time.

6) During the Civil War- would you have sided with the Yankees (North) or the Confederates (South)?

Hard one. I don't think any of my family were around this area during the Civil War...imagine! I can definately sympathize with the South's perception that the North was the invador, but I feel like it was there was something lacking in the leadership for the South to seek to succeed from the U.S.A while it was still trying to get on it's feet in the midst of all the European forces that wanted power from the U.S.A.  I won't even get into the question of slavery here...I know that the South felt like the war was not fought over slavery, but freedom. I am not going to get into an argument about that heh, heh. I have read too many good arguments from both sides to start that one.

7) Do a few laps at 200 mph on a racetrack or fly in a super fast military jet?

 Fly

8) If you go to the shore- do you stay where there are people or do you go off on your own to swim?

  Alone.

9) Watermelon or Honeydew melons?

Cold, cold watermelon.

10) Italian water ice or ice cream?

Vanilla ice cream with hot fudge (home-made by my mom or my sister, using chocolate chips and I don't know what else).

Have a great evening everyone.

Jenette.

Mumps

Posted on 2006-May-28 at 11:30

"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill

So Iowa is dealing with a Mumps out-break...Hmm.

Most of the out-breaks have occurred among vaccinated college students.

I can't seem to find a death among them, and no high risk for death from Mumps in general. Why in the world are we vaccinating for Mumps????

I have 5 kids who are vaccinated and two that aren't.

The more I read and think about it the less sense it (to me) make to vaccinate.

I don't buy in to  anecdotal evidence either pro or con.

All the statistics, scienctific data and commen sense, put together with my world-view just doesn't add up to the idea that most vaccinating is wise, and that it (always) far outways its cons.

I didn't start out this way...its been kind of a journey for me...

How about you?

Jenette.

Sorry if I seem flippant.

Appetizer

From which country(s) are some (or all) of your ancestors?   Scotland (Johnstons), England (Hubbard...really, like Ol' Ma Hubbard went to the cubbard), Germany (Mehrens), and Denmark (Petersons).

Soup
On a scale from 1- 10 with ten being the most active- how would you rank yourself.
That's a really hard one for me. I don't think of myself as really active, but I don't sit down much. Can't answer that one.

Salad
You head into the pet store.  Which section do you go for first?
  Anything small fuzzy and cute.

Main Course
Name three odd or unusual things about yourself  that most people might not know (hidden talents, gifts, dreams, likes, hobbies, etc...)

1) I used to want to be a viking when I grew up (what does that say about me?). Of course there was this cute viking cartoon at the time that I watched... 2) Everytime I think I'll start really playing the guitar, I become great with child again and my stomach gets in the way (hey, I know that sounds like an excuse). 3) I like putting my hands in the dirt, my husband says planting is just an excuse for playing with dirt. 4) I don't ussually don't cry when it seems (to me) to be appropriate to cry, and I cry when it is most inconvenient.

Dessert
How would you describe your sneeze?
Um, very loud, satisfying and earth shattering! aaaAAAAAaaaAAAaaaHCHOOOOOOOOo!!!!!!!!! Excuse me! I want everyone to share in the blessing with me ...um, the auditory part, not the "other" part (spray).

"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill

We went away for my nephew's graduation over Mother's Day weekend. 6 hours to Enid, OK on Saturday (after soccer games), 2 hours to Clearwater KS on Sunday, then 6 hours back here on Monday. I was glad that we got to our places of bedding by eight each evening. We had a really good visit with my inlaws and My nephew made a very good speech at his graduation (from the heart, no cheesy "pithy", soap opera/sitcom. titles pretending to be inspirational). There were 4 co-valedictorians (new trend) and two of them gave good speeches.

I am really enjoying reading other's blogs as I have the time. Time now to go to bed. I need to figure out a good time to do this. I want to start getting up earlier in the mornings.

Oh yeah, one more thing...did you know you can't buy 100% wool yarn at Walmart LOL. Okay, don't stone me...I was just curious... I am glad there are some ladies here who have websites and sell it. I probably won't have the money until the fall heh, heh. I've got to pay for the family reunion and camps and stuff. But I am looking forward to getting some. I want some of the brilliant rich colors. Then maybe Spinnergal will give me some knitting tips . She is incredible!

Have a lovely day!

er

Sweet Dreams.

Heh, heh, My dad's Birthday.

"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill

Hmm! This is to my dad. My e-mail buddy. The one I can count on to read the forwards I send and comment on them.

The one I can count on to debate with me.

The one I can ask, "What do you think about this?"

The one who knows how to spell things and use proper grammar, and has finally seen me care some about the aforementioned, but also gives me grace in that area when I don't know or don't care.

The one who inspired me to want to be a college professor because I saw the affection between him and his students.

The one who wasn't afraid to ask why, and has inspired me to ask why (yeah, its your fault dad).

The one who taught me that I can ask my kids for forgiveness when I goof up and it does make a difference to them, because it always made a difference to me when he said sorry, and he was always ready forgive me.

The one (with mom) who encourages me to try, believing that I can succeed.

Thanks mom and dad for being faithful to each other and to us.

Thanks for loving God, loving each other,  loving us, and loving others.

I love you.

Happy Birthday Dad.

My mom's Birthday.

Posted on 2006-May-6 at 01:34

"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill

Today is my mom's Birthday.

On a program today: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Let_My_People_Think/archives.asp?bcd=2006-4-23

the speaker talked about how his wife said that every time she looked at her mom's hands it made her want to cry, because she saw in them all the work and care that her mom had invested in her family's life.

That is the way I feel.

When I had Jordan (my oldest girl) and I noticed (when she was still quite tiny) that she had my moms hands (I especially recognized the thumbnails) it almost brought tears to my eyes to realize that after all the years and the miles, there was something so precious and ingrained in my memory that I would recognize it so instantly. How many times had I rubbed those hands to awaken my mom when I was scared in the middle of the night? How many times had I seen those hands in the dish water. How many times had those hands held a book that we argued over (she home schooled me, pity her). How many times had her finger pointed at me as her eyes twinkled in ornery laughter. Oh those twinkling eyes. I saw a man at a festival the other day. He was performing old songs, but he kept cracking up at my friend's toddler who was bobbing up and down in time to the music. He had those same lively blue eyes that my mom has. I think he was around 70 or so...I bet my moms eyes twinkle like that when she is 70 or so...

Thanks mom, for all the time, patience, frustration, endurance, fun, tenderness, compassion and faithfulness.

Happy Birthday.

About Me

A non-green thumb who loves plants, and wants to know "why" about everything, likes to eat what is fresh, and is so amazed at the world God has made, and sometimes not so impressed by the things man can make, who wants to learn how to be a good care-taker of all that God has blessed us with, and be thankful and generous with it. Oh yeah, and I homeschool :)
