Wednesday, March 5, 2008Agian no such thing as an ordinary dayPosted in Got My GoatOn the Dailey's farm yesterday when push came to shove, yank came to pull or rather Mrs. Dailey did. We were allerted early that morning agian with a phone call from "Madge" saying that babys were do any time and we needed to hurry down there to help and enjoy the new babies. When we got there Abigail there very preagnant and ready to pop doe was looking rather good for her "condition" and all seemed to be normal ( well as normal as normal comes with a goat in labor ). Then some thing odd happened there were three bubbles ( I am not very experienced at this so I was kinda waiting to see if I needed to help Mrs. Dailey to help Abby ) three bubbles hmmmm. In my mind all seemed to be ok exept Abby was a little too uncompfortable. And she had been pushing and struggling for much to long. So Mrs Dailey decided it was time to check things out and I am so glad I didnt have to help in that little venture, no instead I was to hold the flailing and rather ennoyed expectant mother while Mrs Dailey ............ helped. Joy upon endless joy when we found out that the first baby ( or at least the one most anxious to get out ) was turned backwards and there were no feet to grasp only a tail. So that one was pushed out of the way and the second one was placed perfectly ( or as good as it comes). It came out a beautiful baby boy with beautiful spots all over him and a black lip like his mamma. Next to come was the baby turned around and that one came out in half a push, it was a wonderful baby girl who oddly enough came out looking just like her half sister. While we were just starting to fawn over her out came her little brother, another buckling that looked just like his dad in a raving pure white. Now thats not all the exitement going on around I recently was told that my sister-in-law is now expexting a little one. We are all very happy and proud of them. And greatly anticipating the up coming event. I would appreciate prayer for my aunt we just found out that she suffered a stroke and is now paralized on the left side and cannot speak clearly. Gods little reminders that there is no such thing as an ordinary day are becoming so frequent that I wonder, what is an ordinary day? Is it a day where everything goes acording to plan? Or a day where everything in it seems to be good? And would what we consider an ordinary be out of the usual? Perhaps the days we think are so odd are the days that are the most normal. People talk about going home after a vacation and say that it will be hard going back to an ordinary life where nothing seems to be an adventure. I suppose in a way those people also dont recognize a miracle when it happens right in front of them. Like turning down a wrong street and being irritated about it and when you finaly get back on the right track you are even more irritated because you have to stop in a trafic jam and when you finaly get up to where the trouble is you dont realize that the car that was right behind you had been in a wreck. God intervined and you dont even know it, you could now be dead but you dont give it another thought. This has happened to me and my family before we thank God that he spared us and we pray for whoever was in that car. When you start to walk one hundred miles and you at first think this is impossible but the only way for it to be possible is to take the first step. Nothing is impossible with God and all it takes is an open mind and a first step to see what God is trying to show you. And I can guarintee you will be amazed. All seemed quiet and still as if being gentle with their noises so as not to disturb the soon to be new mother. Except us as we were all waiting around seemingly more exited than the mother who was getting a little freaked out about so many people around for what she wanted a little more privacy than she was getting. So we left her to get some food and we let her walk around hoping that would encourage some baby action. Well about a half an hour later little Charlotte came up and told Maddie and I that Opal was looking funny. While Maddie was being a butt I went over to see what was wrong and Opal was starting to drop so I sent Charlotte into the house to grab the parents while I had to grab "The M" and we all met up back at the goat pen and we waited about 15 minutes and then there was Selena an almost perfectly white little doeling with a little peach spot on the back of her neck and on the back of her legs ![]() after a while out came Tarnag and Adurna and here they are and here is Madge with her little girl Adurna and Tarnag as you can see is trying to get in the shot![]() Well that is all for now and I want to thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the pictures Sarah Daisy God just keeps up with the reminder that there is no such thing as an ordinary day God be with you and I hope He will bless you with some good news today | 2 comments | | Link Saturday, February 16, 2008hello allPosted in Got My GoatHi every one Well today was interesting. We got the bucks into the right pens and letting the girls be frightened by them until they go into heat. Twinkie was introduced to her first buck this year and she was not happy about it. But things have to get done to make money ( my money he he). We also have a new goat pen ( to accomidate the bucks and our does ). A new tool and machine shed. And a half burnt burn pile. We had a nice meal this evening that consisted of : London broil, spiced rice, asparagass, garlic bread, and ice cream to finish. Dont get me wrong we dont eat like this every night but we were celebrating moms birthday early so Mary-ann could enjoy it. Well that pretty much sum's up my day so I will post tomarrow Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Tuesday, February 12, 2008Precious MomentsPosted in Got My GoatWell yeaterday was rather interesting, first we had to run to Roseburg which is a town about an hour and a half away ( or thats what it seems like when you dont want to be in the car ). Then we had Cara DD and her darling children over ( well there not realy darling but they make up for it by being cute ) and the "Madge" and I spent nearly the entire afternoon in the barn loft writing songs ( not any that were particularly good but we had fun with it anyways ). While we were up there we were watching the goats play, Platinum was freaking out as usual and we were also wstching Sparky playing with my soda cup. Maddie and I must have been laughing for a good five minutes because Sparky stuck her tongue out about three inches from her mouth, picked up the cup of soda and spilled it into her nose, and if that wasnt enough she "had" to clean up her mess and licked up all the left overs. It was truley a kodak moment if only I had a camera! There are precious moments in this life that we have to enjoy in the moment and hope that memory will stay in your heart and mind. | 1 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 6, 2008Our Beloved MannyPosted in Got My GoatDear reader, If you have read the posts of Poppy, or sister Lori than you have already heard the news about the loss that struck the family about our dear Manny. Manny was our breeding buck, and this was our first breeding season with him. But if you have not heard then I will tell you the story. Well mom woke me in the middle of the night saying there was screaming coming from the barn( now I can understand if you are immagining some blood curdling scream that sounds like that of a woman in destress but I can assure you its not ). I found out first hand what it sounds like, it sounded like the mix between a dog howling and a bull elk in rutt. We thought that there was a predator out in the barn after the animals, but we were wrong. We followed Dad out to the barn him armed with a pistol, and Mom huddling behind. As we aproached the barn the cries stopped and we found Manny laying on his side with his stomach so bloated he looked like a preagnant cow ( The poor guy ). At first glance I ( a very inexperienced farmer with my only real education on how to deal with these problems coming from the 4-H books I have ) knew what the problem was, bloat. I had heard about this sort of thing before and so much of it was horror stories from the other goat owners I had been learning from. Well this was a horror of my own. Not quite knowing what to do we called all the vets in the phone book. But all of them were too tired or just didnt want to come out at 1 or 2 in the morning. So having no other options we sought the help of the goat owners I have been taking ( sort of ) apprenticeship under. We called them in very low hopes that they would even answer. But by the grace of God they did. Well I ( in a major state of panic ) asked them what to do and I went out with a length of fridge hosing and a cup of oil, and dad and I went to work on him. We tried twice each time trying to set the tube in Mannys stomach. After those attempts failing we decided to give it one more shot. It started working, he was belching and started to breathe a little bit more normaly, his stomach was finaly loosening up and he all of the sudden he just stopped. Stopped everything. Stopped breathing and we tried to get him to start breathing again because it had worked before, but this time there was no bringing him back. He was gone. What was hardest for me was that he died in my arms. Which is one of my reasons for not having posted about this sooner. I never knew what it realy meant to have someone realy die in your arms. This was realy a very hard thing for me, he was a very improtant member to the farm and even more an important member to the family. His was the first real death on the farm, besides a few little ducklings that didnt make it. It seems that ever since we moved here we have had one stroke after another of bad luck. What with Mr Smith and the ducks just dissapearing, and now Manny. I guess life is just throwing us curveballs lately, just one after another. Well hopefully the next time you read this it will be about happier circumstances Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Sunday, January 20, 2008The great escapePosted in Got My GoatGoats are a wonderful thing. But the best part is when they decide to get loose. And the great escape happened just the other day. That day all but two of our goats got loose ( two nigerian dwarves two nubians got out ) and I had both of my girls get out. So since we did not have a proper pen we also did not have a gate! So we had to take down an entire section of fencing to get them back in. And before I got them back in little Twinkie decided to take a five foot leap ( She more like fell) out the barn window , a stunt that could have annd probably should have broken here legs. But as I have figured out Twinkie is made of flubber, she doesnt break! Platinum tried to pull this stunt thankfully we stopped her before she could jump. But it was an interesting morning:) | 0 comments | | Link |
