Sunday, March 16, 2008if your life is boring just come read about mine.Posted in Jesus And MeWell hello there agian. Here I am with another adventure from the homestead. Today we ventured to a new church. And that at least proved to be interesting. I have to say I liked the old church better, but commuting in the weather we have here in Oregon can at times be very hazardess to the health. So this church that we have chosen is non-denominational and a little wierd. And I am not dissing them but it just different. The pastor is realy nice, he is an older gentleman who tends to ramble a little in his sermen but the things that he rambles about at least stays at the same base and he doesnt go way out into left field like some. The church is realy rather..... quaint, I guess that is the best way to put it. It was established in 1895 and very classic looking like you would expect your parents to be married in. It has a spire but I dont think it holds a bell. The inside is beautiful in the strangest sence, the walls are in wood paneling that goes onto the ceiling, and there is wonderful white wainscoting going about three and a half feet up the wall. There is crown molding around all the windows and doors. The flooring is wood that comes into a "Y" shape and there is carpeting in a "V" shape surrounding the wood floors. And where the pulpet is it looks like a stage in a good way, the front is pocketted and framed in the most eligent molding and there are stain glass windows on the wall in the back...of the front...in the pocket...where the pulpet is...any ways its cool looking. The pews were (I believe costom made for the church) very charming. They believe in keeping tradition and they have a sunday every month where they have a potluck, and little things like that. Mom and Dad cirtianly liked the place so we will be going agian next sunday. Dont get me wrong, I like the place too but I miss my old church where every body talks to every body and hearing the noises of the children that I thought were such brats at the time and singing all the songs I am now used too. But life is an adventure and I am going to enjoy it for now. Well I guess that is all for now and I will post agian soon. Bye. Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Wednesday, March 12, 2008when talking to my friend this afternoon she told me that she had to go but she wanted me to write her a very long and stupid message so it went like this how many feet does a centipede have ? I actually encourage you to answer by commenting on my blog ! And I realy want to know how many watts is your bedside table lamp : ) Well thats all for now Sarah Daisy | 2 comments | | Link Monday, March 10, 2008hello allPosted in Homestead Happenin'sHello there WelI am just in the middle cold and I am fairly miserable. | 1 comments | | Link Wednesday, March 5, 2008Agian no such thing as an ordinary dayPosted in Got My GoatOn the Dailey's farm yesterday when push came to shove, yank came to pull or rather Mrs. Dailey did. We were allerted early that morning agian with a phone call from "Madge" saying that babys were do any time and we needed to hurry down there to help and enjoy the new babies. When we got there Abigail there very preagnant and ready to pop doe was looking rather good for her "condition" and all seemed to be normal ( well as normal as normal comes with a goat in labor ). Then some thing odd happened there were three bubbles ( I am not very experienced at this so I was kinda waiting to see if I needed to help Mrs. Dailey to help Abby ) three bubbles hmmmm. In my mind all seemed to be ok exept Abby was a little too uncompfortable. And she had been pushing and struggling for much to long. So Mrs Dailey decided it was time to check things out and I am so glad I didnt have to help in that little venture, no instead I was to hold the flailing and rather ennoyed expectant mother while Mrs Dailey ............ helped. Joy upon endless joy when we found out that the first baby ( or at least the one most anxious to get out ) was turned backwards and there were no feet to grasp only a tail. So that one was pushed out of the way and the second one was placed perfectly ( or as good as it comes). It came out a beautiful baby boy with beautiful spots all over him and a black lip like his mamma. Next to come was the baby turned around and that one came out in half a push, it was a wonderful baby girl who oddly enough came out looking just like her half sister. While we were just starting to fawn over her out came her little brother, another buckling that looked just like his dad in a raving pure white. Now thats not all the exitement going on around I recently was told that my sister-in-law is now expexting a little one. We are all very happy and proud of them. And greatly anticipating the up coming event. I would appreciate prayer for my aunt we just found out that she suffered a stroke and is now paralized on the left side and cannot speak clearly. Gods little reminders that there is no such thing as an ordinary day are becoming so frequent that I wonder, what is an ordinary day? Is it a day where everything goes acording to plan? Or a day where everything in it seems to be good? And would what we consider an ordinary be out of the usual? Perhaps the days we think are so odd are the days that are the most normal. People talk about going home after a vacation and say that it will be hard going back to an ordinary life where nothing seems to be an adventure. I suppose in a way those people also dont recognize a miracle when it happens right in front of them. Like turning down a wrong street and being irritated about it and when you finaly get back on the right track you are even more irritated because you have to stop in a trafic jam and when you finaly get up to where the trouble is you dont realize that the car that was right behind you had been in a wreck. God intervined and you dont even know it, you could now be dead but you dont give it another thought. This has happened to me and my family before we thank God that he spared us and we pray for whoever was in that car. When you start to walk one hundred miles and you at first think this is impossible but the only way for it to be possible is to take the first step. Nothing is impossible with God and all it takes is an open mind and a first step to see what God is trying to show you. And I can guarintee you will be amazed. Sarah Daisy | 1 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 27, 2008Dear readerPosted in Got My GoatWell dear reader God blessed the Dailey family with three new additions to the family yesterday from the expecting Opal. All seemed quiet and still as if being gentle with their noises so as not to disturb the soon to be new mother. Except us as we were all waiting around seemingly more exited than the mother who was getting a little freaked out about so many people around for what she wanted a little more privacy than she was getting. So we left her to get some food and we let her walk around hoping that would encourage some baby action. Well about a half an hour later little Charlotte came up and told Maddie and I that Opal was looking funny. While Maddie was being a butt I went over to see what was wrong and Opal was starting to drop so I sent Charlotte into the house to grab the parents while I had to grab "The M" and we all met up back at the goat pen and we waited about 15 minutes and then there was Selena an almost perfectly white little doeling with a little peach spot on the back of her neck and on the back of her legs ![]() after a while out came Tarnag and Adurna and here they are and here is Madge with her little girl Adurna and Tarnag as you can see is trying to get in the shot![]() Well that is all for now and I want to thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the pictures Sarah Daisy God just keeps up with the reminder that there is no such thing as an ordinary day God be with you and I hope He will bless you with some good news today | 2 comments | | Link Monday, February 25, 2008Thats farm life for youPosted in Jesus And MeIf only we could gain wisdom without the trials! Dear reader Well okay here it goes. Sparkey one of our Nubian doe's was found with what looked a gaping wound on her lower lip this morning and I had checked on her the night before so I knew it had to be fresh. Well after spending an afternoon worrying myself sick about her and her poor little lip and just descovering two more like it on her chin ( ones that had not been there that morning ) I suspected CL and I told my mother as much but I was very concerned because I had never seen any thing like it before. It was bright red and hard and it wasnt bleeding or weeping at all. When I first descovered it I did the only thing rational and I took her out of the pen and treated it like it was an open wound and much to my surprize and the surprize of my mother when it was so strangely dry. So we put her in a quarentine pen and we were going to watch her for a few days to see what was going to happen. And this evening mom was making several jokes about Sparkey going through puberty and she was just getting zits or maybe she is just getting cold sore's. So out of humor she looked up on the computer "Goat Herpies" and much to my dismay what came up was "Sore Mouth"!!! Some thing I had been taught about last summer and I cant imagine how I could possibly not have thought about it but thats how life goes. And thats that. The farm is still safe and all the animals are here to stay, well at least for now. Now there is proof to me that there is no such thing as an ordinary day. But I wish God would lay off on the reminders! All of you remain safe and hold the Lord dear and close to your heart as he holds you close to his. Sarah Daisy I am sure this will not be the end of my posts about my wonderful life down on the farm but I hope you will read often. Thanks for taking the time and I hope my life will be an encouragement to you not to give up when it gets tough "because the tough is what makes it great" and there is always a silver lining to a cloud no matter how dark it may seem. Endure your cloud and rememer that God will catch you when you fall and send you back off in the right direction it is up to us to follow the right path and trust in Him, always | 2 comments | | Link Sunday, February 24, 2008Dear readerPosted in Homestead Happenin'sWell today was interesting, to say the most. We went to the movies and saw "Enchanted" A very good move and I highly recomend it. And dad was in a good mood so that made the day even more pleasant. And I also noticed something, I take real pride in my work (not that I am nececarily prideful ). As I was making dads lunch for tomarrow I took the easy way out and gave him some pre-packaged stuff that I dont normaly use. And I actually missed making his sandwich and getting all the stuff ready myself. It makes me proud that MY dad doesnt have to have the junky food that he doesnt realy care for. MY dad gets to have anything that he wants in his meals, and I didnt get to do that tonight. You never realy know how much you miss something untill its gone. Even something as simple as dads sandwich. I hope that this has spoken to whoever reads it. Enjoy your work and remember that it is a real joy to do something special for someone special. Some thing as small as a sandwich can be a realy important thing to the one who has to eat it the next day, and the person who made it the night before. Have a blessed day. Sarah Daisy
| 0 comments | | Link Saturday, February 23, 2008Dear ReaderPosted in Homestead Happenin'sWell now from experience I know that there truly is no such thing as an ordinary day. And here's how it started. Well I went to my sister in law's house to spend the night and we were up late watching a movie I guess it was around 10 or 11 and there was a knock at the door. So I woke up Kristina and I saw that whoever was knocking had a badge and a partner. And before Kristina could fully wake up I told her "It's the police!". And if nothing else it got her up quicker. And all that's running through my mind was "Matt's been in an accident". And come to find out that one of her neighbors had been doing some bad stuff and ended up tearing a phone cord out of the wall and slitting the tires on his mothers car. And was hiding out somewhere arround the appartment complex ( EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK). All I was doing for about 10 minutes was wringing my hands, worrying and thanking God that Matt was safe. So Kristina and I kinda locked ourselves in the bedroom and tried to stay up until Matt got home which was a waste of time because he needed to work late that night ( Till around 3 in the morning) and she and I fell asleep anyways. After all of that I finaly spilled the beans that I was planning on going home that day, and not realy intending to spend the night at all. Now I am realy glad I did. Kristina was scared enough as it was ( Although I am sure that I didnt help matters any because I tend to get very panicy ) but being alone when you are scared just makes it even worse. Hope you all enjoyed the post and I hope God doesnt remind me not to take my days for granted agian any time soon. I hope that last sentence made sence to you because I am still trying to figure out what I said. Have a blessed day Sarah Daisy | 1 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 20, 2008dear readerWell I am sitting in front of my computer drowning my sorrows in a package of nerds and I thought I would post Well my older doe platinum is finaly bred after playing plenty of games of cat and mouse between her and the Daileys buck And Twinkie is still wanting out of the stall where my buck is ( as you can imagine she is not liking me right now) Well that is all for now I will try to find something more interesting to post about next time Sarah Daisy

| 2 comments | | Link Saturday, February 16, 2008hello allPosted in Got My GoatHi every one Well today was interesting. We got the bucks into the right pens and letting the girls be frightened by them until they go into heat. Twinkie was introduced to her first buck this year and she was not happy about it. But things have to get done to make money ( my money he he). We also have a new goat pen ( to accomidate the bucks and our does ). A new tool and machine shed. And a half burnt burn pile. We had a nice meal this evening that consisted of : London broil, spiced rice, asparagass, garlic bread, and ice cream to finish. Dont get me wrong we dont eat like this every night but we were celebrating moms birthday early so Mary-ann could enjoy it. Well that pretty much sum's up my day so I will post tomarrow Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 13, 2008Hi agianHi I am being bored so I thought I would post. Well okay I am done. Sarah Daisy | 2 comments | | Link Tuesday, February 12, 2008Precious MomentsPosted in Got My GoatWell yeaterday was rather interesting, first we had to run to Roseburg which is a town about an hour and a half away ( or thats what it seems like when you dont want to be in the car ). Then we had Cara DD and her darling children over ( well there not realy darling but they make up for it by being cute ) and the "Madge" and I spent nearly the entire afternoon in the barn loft writing songs ( not any that were particularly good but we had fun with it anyways ). While we were up there we were watching the goats play, Platinum was freaking out as usual and we were also wstching Sparky playing with my soda cup. Maddie and I must have been laughing for a good five minutes because Sparky stuck her tongue out about three inches from her mouth, picked up the cup of soda and spilled it into her nose, and if that wasnt enough she "had" to clean up her mess and licked up all the left overs. It was truley a kodak moment if only I had a camera! There are precious moments in this life that we have to enjoy in the moment and hope that memory will stay in your heart and mind. | 1 comments | | Link Friday, February 8, 2008Hello agianPosted in Homestead Happenin'sHi there Well after two days of being with my new sister-in-law I am glad to be home. Not that it was all that bad but it is nice to sleep in a bed agian : ) We had some adventures in cooking and baking over those two days! We made home made breaded and baked chicken strips, and none of it came in a box either : ) No, no, we wanted to do it our selves so we bought a package of chicken and as soon as we got it home we stuck it in the freezer and forgot to leave some out for dinner. So we thawed it in the micro-wave, which took about five minutes more than expected ( she and I arent very good guesstamaters ). We put it on to defrost 1/4 pound and let it do its thing but it just defrosted the skin so back in it went on the setting for a half pound and that thawed it a little better so we set it on for another half pound setting and let it do its thing agian, and this time it worked ! So we went to work and she was being a little dangerous with the knife so I was to cut the chicken into strips, that was when I realized that we had thawed legs instead of breasts. Well I thought " There both chicken it should work the same" thats what I "thought". In reality there is a difference, there is a big difference ! So I started hacking away at the thighs and thought I would work my way to the ankles. Well it doesnt quite work that way and ( just because I am picky I made sure there was no fat on any pieces ). As Kristina was getting the crackers crushed for the breading and the eggs cracked and the flour poured, she turned around for the first strip of chicken while I was cutting the meat she looked at me like I was from another planet, held up the pittiful strip and said "What is this?" I turned around to look at her and found that she was holding up a piece of chicken that wasnt even a square inch! So we cooked them any way and they were actualy very good but I think we will use breasts next time. Now for the baking experience. We had decided that we wanted brownies the first night so we got out a box mix and we made it and it was all ready to go into the oven when Kristina wanted to put walnuts on the top, well that was fine with me but. Matt doesnt like nuts on his brownies so out came another boxand we made that one without nuts and we set them in the oven. We kept checkin them and the only thing happening was there was a dry film on the top, but the inside was still batter. We had to go down to Matts work to give him his dinner so we didnt think it would be a problem so we went. When we came back nearly a half hour later we checked the brownies but they didnt seem much better. Then it finaly occured to us that we had put them in 8x8 pans. So we set them back in the oven and waited, and waited, and waited. And having watched nearly an entire movie we checked on them one more time and they were FINALY done. After about an hour or more of baking them. Well that was my little adventure, glad I could share it. Well Id best be off. Thanks for reading. Sarah Daisy | 3 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 6, 2008Manny picturesHere is our not so little buddy
He loved his kisses
He was tubby and had this huge head on this head was a face only a mother could love ( but mothers or not we all loved him ) He was very handsome wasnt he?!
Well these are the only pictures I can find of Manny Thank you for reading I hope you enjoy the pictures Sarah Daisy | 2 comments | | Link Wednesday, February 6, 2008Our Beloved MannyPosted in Got My GoatDear reader, If you have read the posts of Poppy, or sister Lori than you have already heard the news about the loss that struck the family about our dear Manny. Manny was our breeding buck, and this was our first breeding season with him. But if you have not heard then I will tell you the story. Well mom woke me in the middle of the night saying there was screaming coming from the barn( now I can understand if you are immagining some blood curdling scream that sounds like that of a woman in destress but I can assure you its not ). I found out first hand what it sounds like, it sounded like the mix between a dog howling and a bull elk in rutt. We thought that there was a predator out in the barn after the animals, but we were wrong. We followed Dad out to the barn him armed with a pistol, and Mom huddling behind. As we aproached the barn the cries stopped and we found Manny laying on his side with his stomach so bloated he looked like a preagnant cow ( The poor guy ). At first glance I ( a very inexperienced farmer with my only real education on how to deal with these problems coming from the 4-H books I have ) knew what the problem was, bloat. I had heard about this sort of thing before and so much of it was horror stories from the other goat owners I had been learning from. Well this was a horror of my own. Not quite knowing what to do we called all the vets in the phone book. But all of them were too tired or just didnt want to come out at 1 or 2 in the morning. So having no other options we sought the help of the goat owners I have been taking ( sort of ) apprenticeship under. We called them in very low hopes that they would even answer. But by the grace of God they did. Well I ( in a major state of panic ) asked them what to do and I went out with a length of fridge hosing and a cup of oil, and dad and I went to work on him. We tried twice each time trying to set the tube in Mannys stomach. After those attempts failing we decided to give it one more shot. It started working, he was belching and started to breathe a little bit more normaly, his stomach was finaly loosening up and he all of the sudden he just stopped. Stopped everything. Stopped breathing and we tried to get him to start breathing again because it had worked before, but this time there was no bringing him back. He was gone. What was hardest for me was that he died in my arms. Which is one of my reasons for not having posted about this sooner. I never knew what it realy meant to have someone realy die in your arms. This was realy a very hard thing for me, he was a very improtant member to the farm and even more an important member to the family. His was the first real death on the farm, besides a few little ducklings that didnt make it. It seems that ever since we moved here we have had one stroke after another of bad luck. What with Mr Smith and the ducks just dissapearing, and now Manny. I guess life is just throwing us curveballs lately, just one after another. Well hopefully the next time you read this it will be about happier circumstances Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Monday, January 28, 2008Hello allPosted in Homestead Happenin'sWell things are quiet agian with all the animals at home so the sleepless nights are over. Things are also quiet from all the new fallen snow which covered to 8 or 9 inches. So snow men were made and snowballs were thrown ( for some reason I was the main target ) Mr Smith even participated by making several "Horse Angels" They were brown and a funny shape but they were in the snow. The joys of living on a farm with frozen feet and puffy hands sore backs and tired arms and my favorite , turned ankles. Along with all the ailments of the body we get frozen pipes power outages downed phone lines dead batteries on every thing imaginable, heaters break then you realize you should have had that chimney swept then when all hope is lost dad comes out with the propane tanks : ) Well got to go I'll talk later thanks for reading Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link Saturday, January 26, 2008horseyPosted in Homestead Happenin'sSmith is back! After hours of searching for him yesterday and today we finaly found him in a neighbors pasture. So I flew over a fence and two big pastures until I finaly got to him and he was whinnying just as hard as he could and obviously happy to see someone that he recognized. Then I had to run back over those two pastures and back over that fence got mom got in the car drove to the street that is next to us then I had to walk a half mile in the pouring rain with a fiesty horse on a busy back road (And by the way I just found out that he is trafic shy ) with a horse who flipped out every time a car passed then I finaly got him home. And thanks to Smith my hands are swollen from the cold, my feet are frozen from the cold, and I appear to be getting a cold . . . . from the cold : P But I am glad that little brat is home there is nothing in this world that could ever replace him. Dont you just love horses : ) : P Also the ducks showed back up all of them so now every bodys home the wierd thing is that there were no tracks no noises nothing they just left then they just came back. So we got two miracles today. This is also a realy big "I told you so" moment. Because dear sister Mary-ann and I went out this morning and I heard Smith whinny but she kept telling me that it was another horse and not our little boy. He he he he I told her so and there he was in the exact spot I heard him whinnying from. I think this is one that she will never live down. Good thing we love her after this we might have put her up for adoption lol : ) Well got to go if you made it this far into this particular post thank you I tend to ramble Sarah Daisy
| 3 comments | | Link Saturday, January 26, 2008Sniff sniffIf you have not read poppys or sister Loris blogs than you dont know yet. Our beloved little Mr Smith went missing yesterday:( The poor little dear. I have no idea how he got lose either because just like we always do Mary-ann and I checked the lead rope and made sure that it was secure to the fence post. But I guess he set his foot on the lead and lifted his head and pulled the rope apart ( it wasnt a very sturdy rope) So now we are a horse short ,well , we are horseless. Poor smithy. Well we are going to go out to look for him agian so goodbye for now. Sarah Daisy | 0 comments | | Link |
