Humble Beginnings

Quilting frame ... just about ready

{ 07:27 , Monday, April 30, 2007 } { 0 comments } { Link }

I finally took our card table apart this weekend for my quilting frame.  One of Johnny's real estate clients was getting rid of their card table (and it's in better shape than ours) so he told him we'd take it.  That's part of the reason I had not taken ours apart yet.  It still served as our table!

I now only have to get the 8 clamps to hold the quilt & all together while I quilt.  My son (he's 8) unscrewed the top and we proceeded to take it apart.  I cleaned it up and think that it'll work perfectly for what I need.  Yeah!

Also, I took the remainder of the material off the top as well as all the screws and little brackets and I'm either going to make a corkboard or a chalkboard out of the top.  I told my hubby last night that I'm glad that I'll be able to make something else out of the top instead of it just being thrown in the trash.

As for the quilt, I bought the backing a few months ago, but I've still been wondering about the batting.  I went to a garage sale this weekend and they had a queen-sized nylon blanket that I purchased thinking that I could use it for Lauren's batting.  But, I don't know if I should.  If I don't use it for her quilt, then I may end up using it for the inside of pot holders.   I'm starting to get ready for Christmas since I'm making everything this year.  One of the things I'm going to make is pot holders for everyone.  I've got so much extra material that it shouldn't be a problem.

maa once said that they use old blankets for the batting inside of quilts so I thought I might try it on Lauren's but since this is my first official quilt, I'm not sure.  It's not cotton but nylon.  Any thoughts from anyone on this before I get started?

Thanks!

P.S.  My garden is doing pretty darn good.  The tomatoes and cucumbers are really doing well.  My peppers have all disappeared and the green beans have sprouted wonderfully.  Also, the popcorn is growing taller.  I can't wait to see how it all does.  I think the best plants so far though are the potatoes.  They have literally taken off.  I'll try to post pictures next time.

I hope y'all have a blessed day!
