Humble Beginnings

We did it ...

We got the garden ready on Sunday Yeah!  We tilled, pulled rocks, weeds and stumps and made lots of furrows.  We worked about 4 hours and it felt great!  The kids were such a big help.  They quit after awhile, but they worked longer than I thought they would.

I planted the mini popcorn that we grew from seeds.  It was ready to be planted, so I thought I'd plant it.  Around here, though, the rule of thumb is to not plant anything in the garden until after Easter (due to a cold front that always comes in around Easter - without fail).  I thought I'd try my luck, though.  You never know!

I currently have cucumbers, tomatoes, pumpkins, potatoes, garlic, onions, jalapenos and many other items germinating right now.  I'm hoping that each of these little darlings will do well.  Lauren told me while we were planting seeds (these will be germinating) that she's going to pray that God will bless these seeds to make them grow.  I told her I do the same thing.

They've been catching quite a few milk snakes over the past few days, so the latest one I asked that they set loose in the garden.  So, Twister has been set free.  I hope he stays in the garden ... maybe he'll help keep some of the critters away.  Plus, James and Lauren have also been hunting up earthworms for the garden.

James and Lauren each have their own rows to tend to this year.  You know, as a homeschooling family, there's education in EVERYTHING!!  Lauren has already planted a pink impatien in her row.  She loves flowers.  We'll see what else they plant - after Easter.

I love this time of year.  I kept smelling the dirt (a little weird, I know, but I love that smell) as I was pulling rocks and weeds.  It was such a great day.

I hope each of you had a great day as well!

I don't know if it will let comment but here goes. I am so glad you got your garden in. We will be working hard on our Monday, as Dh will be off. I too, like the smell of that freshly tilled dirt.LOL
Blessings,
Trixi

I sounds like ya'll had a good day. We tilled ours up and are going to plant corn & potatoes but also wait until after Easter for the rest. --Every year we have planted early we're outside running around finding buckets & things to cover our plants because, never-fail there will be a cold snap!
Hope you have a great day!
