Every year, for a long time, we have found caterpillers on our dill. And every year we raise them until they turn into butterflies. They are called black swallowtail butterflies. They often lay their eggs on Dill, parsley or carrot leaves.

You need to look very carefully for there eggs because they are very small. Try to find them as eggs or tiny caterpillars, because if you find them when they are full grown odds are that a hornet has laid eggs on it (meaning when the caterpiller comes out of its cocoon, a hornet will come out instead.) Hopefully you can see the egg. Its that little yellow speck.

This is how small the caterpillars will be when they are a few days old. Some will be way smaller. If you cannot find any eggs try to find the caterpillars that are this size . The smaller they are the better chance they have of living. The reason why you want to find them when there small is because, when (and if) a hornet lays their eggs on the caterpillar, it means that when the caterpillars in the cocoon the baby hornet will eat the caterpiller, and you won't get a butter fly.

When a caterpillar gets bigger it will be green with yellow. orange spots., and black strips. Its quite a funky caterpillar. Feed they whatever you found them on. we always find ours on dill so thats what we feed them. Put a stick in their jar so when its time for them to make there cocoons they can make them on that. They will shead their skin, and when its time for them to make their cocoon, they will hang from the stick by a few threads. it will probly take them a day or two to make it.

Their cocoons will be green and yellow or sometimes brown. Both usally hatch, although sometimes the brown ones turn black and won't hatch. (sometimes they'll turn black and will hatch to though) Before they hatch their cocoon will turn black with red, yellow and blue dots. Thats because you can see them through their cocoons.

When they do hatch, they will be all floppy. bring them outside in a sheltered place, away from wind. they'll sit their for a few hours until their strong enough to fly, them you can watch them fily away. They should hatch around late august to sometime in september, If you catch any good luck, and if you have any questions just ask me! This year we found twelve and at the moment we have 2 cocoons (pictured above) 2 eggs (pictured above) 5  medium sized caterpillers (pictured above) and 3 just hatched ones (too small to show!)

Ok I wasn't on cause I went to my Nanny's and we stayed over night for 3 days. On the first day ( well we got there tuesday night but) we went to this zoo in/near niagra falls. It was called ZooZ. It was OK but I didn't like the exzibits. They were small and all that was in them was a rock, a tree, a shelter and gravel. All the fences were chained link fence so it was hard to see and take pictures. And it started to rain so we couldn't go in the water park,but I did get to do this cool trampoline thingy! I bought a cute white plushie tiger. Hes soft. ummm when we went home I went swimming in the pool and yea. The next day we went to a huge mall. My nanny gave me 40 $ as an early birthday present. And my auntie gave me 25. I bought a pretty purple skirt at old navy for 10$ a purple top, a lime green top and a pair of white capri's. On the way home I bought a red top at a store, for 5 bucks. We went to chuckie cheese for lunch. I earned 108 tickets from games. Well actually I earned more but I gave some of them to Devin. On the last day we were going to go to the horse race track (which I donnot support) and we got there and I was kinda happy cause It was closed. My nanny was like "i'm sorry your day with the horses is ruinoned. I'm thinking "that just made my day!" so we went shopping instead. the mall had an amusment park inside of it! Really! so we stayed there all day and then came home. on my Lesson I was riding Calypso! Yeah!!! (hes soooo my favorite!) The lesson started out normal. walk trot, walk trot, walk trot, Then callie got excited and started to canter. I just hung on for dear life! ok now to the show! If you don't know on July 16 I entered my first horse show. I entered best groomed and walk trot. The day before the show I went to give patches (my pony for best groomed) a bath. Me and my friend Sarah were going to wash Calypso in the morning (I was riding callie in walk trot) so I bathed patchie and seperated his mane for braiding. the next day I wook up at 5:54 got all my stuff togeather, picked up Sarah, and got out to the barn. We gave Callie a bath, then I braided patches while she did Callie. I got second (out of 4) in best groomed and 4th out of 12! in walk trot (which suprised me because I beat people who have been riding for Years!) anyways it was sooo fun! I can't wait till the next show. Enjoy the pics! P.S. Hehehe! I didn't get sunburnt!   maybe its just me but I think the red dude moves faster. Anyways we had some real weird adventures. I went to the beach with my friends Leah and Jenna and Leahs mom Carol. On our way to the beach we got a FLAT TIRE!Then we knocked on a door of this house (We were 1 1/2 away from home and a half an hour away from the beach. We were also in the middle of no were!) No one was home so we moved the car into the peoples LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG driveway and begain trying to fix the car. Meanwhile the other people we were going with (Kitty, (Johnathan's mom) Johnathan, and their cousin Tim) were way up the road when they noticed we wern't following them anymore, so luckly the relized and drove back for us. About 5 minutes later Tim was trying to change the tire. Then the guy that owned the house came home. He was just about to help us when this other guy sped up and started fixing the tire. Boy was he weird. He started going on about how the night before he'd been pulled outa his car at gun point, and that a whole wack of his stuff was stolen. He also said that his car was trashed (but it wasn't) the only thing wrong was he had no lisence plate. Then he went on about how he was living in his car because his wife was cheating on him, and then he started telling us that a dog bite him because some lady didn't want him to leave so she sicked the dog on him, and he was in jail for 4 months because she said he'd beaten her up.THENNNNN he started talking about how he got pulled over by the police and the police asked him were he got his flashy liscence plate and he said "walmart" then he asked if it was illegal and the police said "yeah but I wanna get one!" meanwhile the guy who owned the house stood between all of us and this guy (which we were glad of because this guy was not right) Then this guy said he was a trucker, but he'd lost his lisence bacause when he was driving this lady pulled out right infront of him and stopped, and he moved her car about this much >                              < THEN he said yeah and my serimonial dagger was stoled too. Not that I do animal sacrifices. and we all looked at each other and yeah. Then he said I'll follow you into southhampton to make sure nothing happens and we were like "Uh no thats ok!" then he left we think he was on drugs or something and yeah, so we were on our way! When we got to the beach we ate lunch and then braved the freezing cold water(it was sooo cold! ) we swam the whole day then ate supper. Jenna noticed that she had a red spot on her leg. she started eating again and then looked at her leg to fin the red part was bubbling up!!!! The bubbling lump got bigger and bigger and bigger. Me and jenna and Leah just stood there watching it until I said "Jenna maybe we should tell Carol" so we did and then Carol said "oh my goodness!Kitty! look at jennas leg!" then everyone was staring at jennas leg. We looked on jennas other leg and there was nothing and about 2 minutes later we checked it again and it was bubbling on that leg too! Finally the bubbling went down. We think it was a reaction to something in the sand. It was weird! So that was our day at the beach!

Hi Peoples!

Its me and I'm not Dead! I've been gone for so long! My goodness! Well I have a good reason for it. Here is what happened.

Ok well first I was really busy with my school/friends/and riding (Which I will tell you more about later) Then the next week we went camping (Which I will tell you about later!) Then my computer got a virus (which I will tell you about later) and now I am telling you all the things I told you I'd tell you!:D

school/friends/and riding

Well I forget alot about what happend with my friends, except we stamped these wraps for our africa study, and we went to the zoo (I have pics!BUT I can't show you them now....tell you about it later!) School was normal you know same old same old. RIDING was AWSOME because I got to be with HORSES and see the goldenwoods SHOW which I will be COMPETING in SOON :) Well ok into more detail. I have ridden Calypso for the past month and I luv him!I am almost ready to canter. Golden woods has a show every month in the summer, and I will hopefully be in the next one!!!!Leah won 7th place in her first show and Jenna won 3rd. Leah was oh }{onEy then pain and she did very good (I also have pictures!)

Camping

We went to Elora Gorge to camp. We were at site 400. It rained on and off trough the first two days but then it was sunny. We went to a ice cream shop called Jenny's place. It reminded me of Whit's End a little bit. I had Triple tornado(my favorite) and twix ice cream. The next day I faced the rapids of Elora Gorge. I found my self crazily going over them on a little bittie rubber tube....now how did that happen??

Yes I guess I started having second thoughs after my Dad said we could go tubing. He rented our tubes,and helmets and life jackets (a graduation present) and then we went down to the river were the first set of wild rapids were. I hopped into my tube and then saw the rapids ahead. I almost said "Get me outa here!" but it was too late because I was being sucked into the the rapids and before I knew it I was covered in a creamy white foam. The rapids wern'y that bad...except when I went down a step part and almost fell outa my tube! The whole ride was about an hour and was truly amazing. You can see Clifs and ridges in the edge of the gorge. There are fish jumping all around you, and little swallows diving at the water, and even Harons and little muskrats.It is sooooo amazing. A whole new was of seeing the gorge.

We did lots of other cool things on our trip (like shopping and swimming and biking and catching frogs)I bought this cool book called hold your horses and it is soooo funny. This is what the first page says

Ok so your probly wondring bout my strange name right? well its kinda two stories in one.First I will tell ya bout my day today,then my riding lessons, my trip to the tack shop, and then the confrence.Ok today I got up,had some raisien bran and babysat my brothers while mom went to say goodbye to her friend Dawn (Dawn and her son Benjamin are visiting from thunder Bay) So yea.That about all thats happend today!YesterdayI went to my riding lesson!It was my first group lesson.I had to tack up all by myself.I'm glad Leah and Jenna were there to help me put the saddle and stuff on!So yeah.I had to check the stirrups and do up my girth by myself too!Once I was riding I was fine.I was on smokey.It was a bit annoying though because smokey likes to "Floss his teeth" on the other horses tail! so I had to try to keep him back.It wasn't easy!My lesson was an hour long this time.It was really fun!I loved it!Ok so now to my trip to the tack shop!Mom did a trade with the lady that owns it so now I have Breeches,half chaps,a helmet,boots and glooves.They made it so much easier  to ride!Ummm ok to the confrence...It was a ittiy bitty boring!It was a homeschool confrence and there were tons of people from all around.For the first two hours we shoped for school books,then I went to a homeschool class thingy,then We did more shopping,then we had another class thingy, then I meet Dawn and I got mom for her.They talked for a while.Then I went to ANOTHER CLASS then we SHOPPED for books then we said by to Dawn and went home :D

Hey every one!Its ROBYN! No,I'm not dead, don't worry!I've been soooo busy with school and riding and pathfinders (In canada instead or girl scouts we have girl guides and in girl guides there are sparks, brownies,guides,pathfinders,rangers,etc.Each ones for different age groups and they are in the order I put them) and friends and...well yeah, you get the point!So I will tell you a bit about what happend while I was gone.Ok so lets see I'll star with my lessons.Since I last posted I have been off the lunge line and honey/Sparky spooked a few times.Thats about it with the lessons cause I had to miss the last two because of my pathfinder camps.I made ukranian easter eggs with Jenna.They were really hard!You have to put a small hole in the top of an egg and a bigger one in the bottom.Then you need to blow the egg yoke and stuff out of the egg,rinse it and make a pattern.We drew our patterns on our eggs and decide what colour would be what etc.Then if you want part of your egg to be white you dip a pin into hot wax and cover that part of the egg with it.Then you dip it in yellow and cover the parts you want to stay yellow in wax then you go to orange then, green, then turqoise, then blue then purple,and finally black and you cover all the parts you want to stay that colour along the way.You do the colour from lightest to darkest.Her is the ingrediants for the dye.

3/4 cup of warm water

1 tablespoon of vinager

1/4 teaspoon of food colouring.

You need to leave your egg in for 15 minutes for a dark shade or your colour.So It took us like 3 hours to do our eggs and when they were done, they wern't as nice as we thought they'd be....so yeah!Then I went to our pathfinder winter camp.It was a cold and rainy day!So we set up our tents...in the rain and yeah.After that we went into our tent. we just talked.Then we made grilled cheese for lunch.We went for a hike and met the leader of a group of cubs (boy scouts around 8 or 9) that were staying there.There leader challenged us to a game called cans,but we used bottles.SO what you have to do is they're are two teams.Each team gets a side or the feild/gym.One each side they're is a box of bottle/cans and a jail.You have to gaurd your bottle.If people from the oppisite team come to your side they will try to steal your bottle.Your need to try to catch them, and take them to the jail.If you just tell them to go to jail they will get away.You alo need to get there bottles.Same rules go for the oppistie them they need to get you to there jail before you can steal there bottles.Its really fun.The game end when the person gets all the bottles or when you get fed up of playing!I couldn't belive how funny these kids were!They came up to us and said "were gonna murdur you!" OR "wE ARE SO GONNA KILL YOU!" and other stuff.I'm like "these kids are 8!" in the end we won.They invited us to there camp fire so we went and sang songs and did skits.It was fun.After we had supper and played some games and had our own camp fire.Its was a really fun camp.Then I went to my auntie Sarah's house.We got our nails done and made more ukranian eggs.They were easy-er cause my aunt does them differently.You don't take the yolk out of the egg it dries up (doesn't smell!) and she had special tools to use and every thin so It was more enjoyable.They just this weekend my pathfinder group went to niagra falls. We stayed in a hotel! We went behind the falls and we saw a movie and we went to ripley's 4D movie adventure and we went to an awsome bire aviary (that was soooo sweet!) and we also went to a butterfly conservitory.Its was soooooo fun!Today I made a story for school and I had to write the viwes of a pencil, so here it is!

Hello.My name is penny.I'm not a human, I'm a staedtler 9705 0.mm pencil.I have a beautiful silver pen clip and a eraser cover. I have shiney green crome and a black hand grip.I'm a rather attractive pencil at that! ARRRGGGHHHH! Robyn's using ME to write with today. I personally hate writing because it hurts when people grip me and it wears down my beautiful led. I also hate when people  write all messy.It gives me a bad reputation!Also sometimes people throw me, snap me , use my eraser, and break my led!Its unbelivible!The life of a pencil sure is hard!

As most of you know my city is on strike.Its really annoying cause there are all these people pickiting and the library is closed and so our all the arena's.There is also no sidewalk plowers and other stuff.Its really getting me made.And my poor friends!Its the hockey playoffs and now they can't practice for their games.Jenna is in Rep hockey and its not cheap!Its not fair to any of us kids.I wrote a letter to our local news paper.This is what it says

I'm writing about the strike.I think its abad idea.I think its just another way of running away from problems. ItÂ’s a bad example for kids like me. Also the strike is not fair to the children in our community. Now we can't study because the libraries closed. Now all my friends who play hockey can't finish the play-offs.They have been working hard to get in tip top shape,for what?For nothing!There are tons of people who go on strike but don't want to, but they have to picket so they can get paid. Also I think pickiting is annoying. people, blocking the way of the sidewalks. Why can they even block the sidewalk? Its everybody's property and they have no right to block it. I just want to get my point through that itÂ’s not a very good thing to teach us kids, I mean look at all the crazy things going on in this world? DonÂ’t you think we've seen enough? By going on strike these people are not only shirking there dutys, but they are also holding us kids back from learning and having fun. I just think these adults are acting like children.I'm really disappointed in them. They are our role models, and they are not setting good examples.~Robyn

Alright first of all I'll start with LAST Sunday.

Last Sunday I had my first riding lesson. We started out by walking then Val (My instructor) let me trot and taught me how to post. She also taught me how to mount up, and dismount. It was really fun! I was on a pony named Patches. HeÂ’s really sweet. Here is the website of the place I ride www.goldenwoods.on.ca itÂ’s an awesome place to ride! I love it! Its sooooooooo fun to ride!

Monday

Nothing really happened......I think...oh yea I helped out delivering packages at my aunts flower shop. That was fun too! I also did odd jobs around the shop.

Tuesday

I delivered like 70 flower arrangments.Now that was tiring got paid like 165 dollars though!

Wednesday

I went to a Storm game. The storm won 6 to 4! Yeah! Go storm go! It was really fun only all the librarians and the garbage collectors and the arenas and park Cades and stuff went on strike. Only the Storm is allowed to play there (Our arena) which is really disappointing for my buddies Leah and Jenna because they play hockey and itÂ’s the middle of the playoffs so now they can't play. Also we are supposed to have a provincial strike so all the teachers and medicals people and stuff will be on strike. That sucks eh?

Thursday

Jenna came over because her grandpa was sick so her mom had to go to Ottawa. She slept over

Friday

Jenna slept over the night before. She stayed until 5 then went home. I went to Friday night youth group. We played scatter ball and sardines and balloon stomp and lots of other games. It was awesome!

Saturday

I went to Jenna's birthday party. We had so much fun! We Played air hockey, clue, sorry and cranium. It was so fun! I and Sarah won Cranium. I and Sarah and Leah slept over and it was awsome.We had good ice cream cake and chips and lots of ice tea. It was really fun!

Sunday

I went to riding lessons. Leah Jenna and Sarah came to watch me. I did a lot of trotting. We dropped Sarah and Jenna off at their houses then Leah came over.Me, Leah, Keenu and Jeremy were playing hockey at the near by rink in the park. It was fun until Leah got hit by the head with the puck. There was blood all over her head and the ice. I was really freaked out. I sat her down, gave her my glove I caught at the storms game (To stop the bleeding) then untied my skates. I got her skates off and looked at her head. She only had a small cut, but blood was every where. Some dumb adult cam up and said to Leah "Did you get hit with a hockey stick?" Leah said no, a puck. The guys said "too bad" then walked away. I was so made at him! I walked her to my house and we got her all cleaned up. SheÂ’s fine now but she has a huge bump on her head!

Today I'm going skating! Bye!

Ok on Friday night me and Leah went sledding with our sunday school youth groupit was soo fun!I took my purplr saucer (Leah did too) First me,Leah,Sammy,Mckayla,and Noel started making toboggan chains and we all went down the hills in the funniest ways!The every one started going off the sled jump (To get a Tim-bit from Tim Hortons)I couldn't because my mouth was sore from getting rubber bands at the orthadontist the day before so while every one was on the jump I was,Hitting skiiers (Only one!)And watching people whipe out on the jump!It was really funny!Afterwards me, and two other girls begain going down the small ice hill,and I begain to spin on my saucer and soon everyone was doing it!Our sunday school teacher came back with hot chocolate and doughnuts from timmy's.It was a great night!

On sunday I went to the flower shop(The one my auntie owns which has been in the family seince 1917)To  help get ready for valentines day.I deliverd some orders,filled buckets of water,cut flower stems,cut cilifean,put bags on the bag wrap and lotsa other stuff.I also need to help out on the 13th and the 14th.I had steak and pumpkin pie at my Grama;s and Poppa's and then went home.Leah came over and we had a sleepover.She's still sleeping now!I can't wait until this afternoon!I get my first riding lesson!I SOOOOO cannot wait!Its gonna be soooooo fun!I whis it were 1:00 now!G2G!Bye!

I've got a fever a head ach and a sore throat so I'm in a bit of a miserable mood. IÂ’ve had this for 4 days now! ItÂ’s weird because I feel hot one minute and cold the next. I hate being sick!*sigh* I havenÂ’t done much today...just sat around. This morning my stomach ace, head ace and fever were gone. They came back so I took some medicen.It worked but now I've just gotten this horrible, horrible stomach ace. It kind of feels like an air bubble.arrrggggh!i HATE THIS!I just wanna take a warm bubble bath while reading my narnia book (Number 6.the silver chair)Then after the bath I'd get a nice cup of tea and curl up in my warm bed with a hot water bottle and some magic bags and continue reading narnia and listening to a wow worship tape until I slowly slip off to sleep.Groan but I still need to clean, feed and force water down OreoÂ’s throat (She's eating now but she won't drink!)The brush my teeth (I've got braces so it takes forever!)My friend Jenna and I (ThatÂ’s what my Nanny would want to say!)Were talking about how we liked to be sick because we got good foods, (jello, chicken soup, etc) good drinks (Not very often but sometimes mommy buys me a PowerAde!)Hot water bottles (at the moment they drive me to drink!)And other "Pleasant" things like that.*Phew* that took a while to say! Oreo is doing a bit better now. Her diet isnÂ’t much she is eating the highest quality of alfalfa hey (I don not know if it is the highest quality but that sounded better then lowest brand) kale and romaine lettuce but she is still eating something! She has not been drinking so I've had to force water down her with a medicine dropper but that still works! Other than that she is fine! Shes happy, and perky! For those who didn't know Oreo is my rabbit. She hasn't eaten hardly anything for two weeks! We took her to the vet (Bye bye two horse lessons!) and they said she looked fine. She was in high spirits and her teeth didn't need to be trimmed. She didn't have anything in her stomach ether! Sooo they said it was probably a hair ball or an infection. Rabbits unlike cats can't throw up (Like horses!) so the hair ball gets stuck in their stomach. Also rabbitÂ’s hairballs arenÂ’t just hair. It can be hair, digested food (Yuck!) and other things they've been chewing (Carpet strandes, cardboard, etc!)So they told me to give her pineapple juice (It helps fix there digestive system) and she gave me medication (incase she had an infection) so that didn't help so IÂ’ve just been feeding her veggies and hay and giving her pineapple juice and water! It seems to be working so letÂ’s hope for the best!~Robyn
