Favorite Bread Recipe

Jenette of Tender Mercies asked for my favorite bread recipe, so here it is!

1C milk

6T butter

6T sugar

1t salt

4 1/2t yeast

3C warm water (105 degrees)

10C flour, plus enough to make workable dough.  I use half white and half wheat, but you can use all white.

Scald the milk, add the butter, sugar and salt to that and let the butter melt and milk cool somewhat.

Put the yeast in a bowl and add the warm water, let yeast disolve.  Add milk mixture to yeast.

Add enough flour to make a good dough, and knead for 10 mins or more.

Let rise about 1 hour

Divide into four chunks, roll out, and put in greased loaf pans.

Let this rise 30-45 mins.

Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 mins until they sound hollow when you tap on them.

Eat warm with butter.

I did get mine made yesterday!  This will hold us for a week's worth of bread.

Lots of wind around here yesterday.  It blew my clothes line down, with clothes on it of course.  I wasn't very thrilled to have to rewash an entire load.

I got the body of the Icarus shawl done and have started on the edging pattern.  There are four charts for the entire shawl and I'm on the second on right now.  Only two rows left of that then I move on the chart 3.  Did a bit of spinning last evening, more of the brown Jacob fiber.  The bobbin is about half full at the moment.

No signs of Miss Jar Jar Goats going back into heat yet.  This would be the week that she would, so keep your fingers crossed that she is pregnant!  Mrs Burbie, my turkey gal has decided to be broody now.  She hasn't gotten off the nest box in 3 days at this point.  She doesn't even have any eggs to make it worth her while to sit there.  I would love to get some turkey babies from her, but she won't co-operate with Mr Burbie in that department.  Oh well, maybe she will be more receptive after the summer.

Gotta run!  Bye Bye!

I am just getting back into baking my bread -

Can\'t believe it has taken me this long - we did have a bread machine but I did not really enjoy it that much.

But I love the kneading process and then the smell of baking bread.

Will certainly try this recipe.

I found pictures of the Icarus shawl on the web - but did not find a pattern. Could you post a picture of yours?? Please, or as my Mom would say "Pretty please" - now that is a phrase I have not heard in a long time.
Thanks so much - I am just getting back into knitting and that might be a good project - the pictures are just lovely.
And where would I find the pattern?
