Tumor? Cyst??

My son was holding one of our roosters yesterday when he noticed a "Thing" on his right ear.  I have no idea what it might be, but tumor and cyst come to mind first.

Its hard as a rock, not soft like you might expect an infection to be.  It's a half inch across and sticks out a half inch from his head.  It's right where his ear is.  It wasn't there two months ago when I checked all the birds when we moved.

You can see it sticking out on the left side in this pic.

It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all, he didn't flinch or cry when I touched it.  It sure hasn't slowed down his "activity" with the girls either.

Has anybody ever seen anything like this?  Can you help me to figure out what this might be?  I don't want to put him down if I don't have to, but I don't want him suffering either.

I'm not sure what that is. Might be a scar, if there are other roosters to peck around with. Hope it continues not to bother him!

But if it doesn't bother him, it shouldn't matter. The trick is, if he DOES seemed to be bothered then he will start acting sick. If he does that, that is the time to make the decision to put him down. Good luck.
