Yard Work

I spent the better part of yesterday cleaning up the old dog run in the back.  Lots of overgrown weeds, trash, bones, holes, tent poles, and destroyed carpet pieces.  Miss Jar Jar will be living there when shes not out grazing, so we wanted it nice and cleaned up for her.  We are going to be tearing down the dog house that's in there too, since it's falling apart and the wood on the sides is flaking off.  Besides, its home to several large black widow spiders, YUCK!  I think I hauled out about 15+ wheelbarrow loads of stuff out of there.  We have a huge pile now for burning, when the weather gets better and we can do that.  We are under burn restrictions right now.

A new goat house will be going up in that area for her and any of her babies.  If anybody has pics up on their site showing your goat houses or hay mangers, I would love to see them to give me some ideas, send me your links!!

Sadly, we lost another chicken the night before last.  This time one of our leghorns.  I don't have much attachment to them, since they are so flaky and wild they don't let you get near them.  I don't know why my girls are dying.  I put them on antibiotics just in case, but nobody is showing any signs of being sick.  No runny noses, or eyes, no coughing, everyone is eating.  It doesn't make much sense.  This bird was only 2 years old.

Time to feed the girlies!  Bye Bye!

goat house

Hello, just catching up - Jar Jar is looking good! Pic of my goat house is in my archives in February, titled 'goatabode'....my son is a carpenter (and a self sufficient survivalist) so made the house from bits of hardwood left from work, I think it measures 6 feet along by four high and has a sloping roof. It takes both of mine , one HUGE boy and standard size girl but any smaller would have been too small. Goat houses seem to be unique to their owners, I think!

Your anti bird flu recipe is GENIUS by the way - you could probably become very rich on your idea (if you WANTED to give up the simple life!)

Thanks! I'll be checking out your goatabode!

As for the tincture, it wasnt my idea! I got it from elsewhere, so I wont be making much of anything on that one!

Sorry about the chickens. You know the experiences we have had with trying to raise chickens around here, so I won't be giving any advice. Hope the rest of them carry on in health.

Jenette.
