Homestead Journal at Fat Turkey Farm

Goatie Stuff

Miss Goatie came home with us yesterday morning.  She was very good about riding in the back of the van, but not happy about actually getting into the van.  That took a bit of pursuasion in the form of physically lifting her in. I got to ride in back with her, and didn't get my toes stomped!

The chickens were all freaked out when the goat got out of the van and started walking around.  Mrs. Burbie went into full blown attack/panic mode and made all sorts of funny turkey noises.  Rosie the goose was quite upset also and gave a few hisses in the direction of the invader.

We were all talking about how Miss goatie looked and what, if any, her new name should be.  It was generally decided that she looked exactly like Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars movies.  So, she was Christened Jar Jar Goats.

Ok, doesn't she look like Jar Jar Binks???

Ok, so we are very odd people here.

She ate her way thru the day, making the rounds of all the weeds in our yard.  I swear she put on 10 pounds just from eating!  She was a bit thin when we brought her home, her previous owner said she was only being fed a half a flake of hay a day.  She was very happy to be munching on anything that looked good to her.

She ate so many weeds yesterday that she hardly touched her hay last night.  BTW, my yard is looking better already.

She isn't very noisy.  Her calling sounds more like a very quiet sheep rather than a big ole goat.  Just a very quiet "baaa" comes out of her mouth once in a while.  She follows the kids all over the yard, and really seems to enjoy being with people.  And she is very easy to lead around with a leash, but as my daughter found out, you have to keep a watch on her feet, since Jes got stepped on!

We had a very good first day with Jar Jar, and I believe that she will be a great asset to our homestead.

Gotta run!  Bye Bye!
