Fun at the River

We sure had lots of fun yesterday with our homeschool group at the Verde River.

It started out as an adventure!

The directions that were given by a friend were a bit confusing, and it seemed that we were driving for miles in open high desert with no end in sight.  It was fun seeing the high desert, even though I live here, I don't get out much to see the open spaces.

We did find the river after many miles, one flat tire on a friends car, and lots of looking for "the pile of rocks" we were to turn right at.  We ended up near to where my friend Vicky had been before on a drive.

It was a lovely spot on the river.  Nice big shady trees, easy bank for the kids to climb down, and even a tree for rope swinging.  The water wasn't too deep, and was only over the head of one child, who stayed close to the edge.  Even though the water was pretty chilly, most of the kids stayed in for a long time.  We ate our picnic lunch and then more swimming for the kids.

We stayed at the river for about 4 hours, though a few folks left earlier.  Everyone had a really good time.  The kids  caught a few crawdads that were on the banks, and a mud fight was started.

That's my daughter Jes out in the middle of the river.  She is standing on the bottom.

Thats my son Michael playing with the rocks and mud on the river bank.

The river is in a bit of a canyon and we went home a different direction than we came.  The walls of the canyon are a beautiful red shade of stone.  I saw this view and just had to share it with you all.

We all came home exhausted, but feeling great and relaxed.  I think we will be doing this again at some point in the future.

Gotta run!  Bye Bye!

Your part of our country is so beautiful - have only been thru there on vacation, but have some wonderful memories.
We live in So. Oregon - lots of mountains, green trees and rivers. Another beautuful part of our great country.
Love your pictures - especially the children playing in the river.
