Washing Jacob

Wool, that is.  I relocated the Jacob when we moved into the new place, which I got in a trade last year.  The fleece is a two color fleece, with a dark chocolate brown and a grey/white together on the same critter.  I got some of the white stuff washed yesterday, and its amazing the difference between the dirty white and the clean white.

The stuff on the left is the dirty fleece and the right is the clean stuff.  It's amazing what a little hot water and some dish soap can do.

You can't really see it in the pic, but the fiber has a pretty nice crimp too it.  It got nice and soft with the washing also.  I want to try to run it thru the drum carder, but I'm not sure the staple is long enough for it and may end up handcarding it instead.  I think I can get more of the debris out with the handcards too.  I left some of the chocolate in the white also thinking it might card into a pretty heathery shade of grey/brown.

I have no idea on how I will spin this.  I'll have to see how it acts on the wheel, and let it tell me how it wants to be spun.  No ideas on what to use it to make yet either, maybe socks?  I do need to spin some and send it to the gal who sent me the fiber.

I'll be washing more of this today, since I still have a trash bag full of white, and a trash bag full of brown.  I would love to get it all washed up this weekend, so that I can just sit and play with it.  Somehow I doubt that I will get that much done!

Have a fibery day!  Bye Bye!

And - I'm over here looking for that evil bunny you have. LOL .. The wool is a gorgeous color! Can't wait to see what you make of it.
Cheers! (and thanks for visiting.)

I still don't know how you do all you do, but you make me want to try it. You are making my fingers itch to feel, wash, card and spin some of that stuff and I don't even know what I you are talking about! Thanks for sharing the picture...keep them coming!

Jenette.
