Monday, June 4, 2007 - First Batch of Carnival of Homesteading

HI!! Welcome to the first Carnival of Homesteading. We are happy to have you stop by. We have many great posts this time.

So grab your organic coffee and a piece of that coffee cake you just made from scratch, and come along as we learn about homesteading.

We will begin in "the Kitchen" with Journey to Simplicity . Here we learn about the cost break down on pizza for the family in "Gourmet Pizza: Fresh, Fast, and Frugal."   She also shows us how to can, preserve, and otherwise store fresh foods, even if you do not have a garden by "Putting Food Away When You Don't Garden."  And she uses those fresh foods to make "Salad: Not your Mama's Lettuce and Tomato" with ideas for making substantial, healthful, and tasty salads by thinking outside of the box (or the salad bowl as it were).

Now we head to prairiemom, to make "Easy Crescent Rolls". She used this recipe for her daughter's recent high school graduation party. They were a big hit and not difficult to make.

Grandma Rosie's Texas Home gives us a delicious summery treat called Tomato Butter from your garden. Spicy and flavorful, excellent with meats. Can now to preserve that wonderful taste of summer long after the harvest is over.

Keri Mae at A Happy Home shows us how easy it is to " Make Your Own Buttermilk". She gives instructions on how to get it "just right".

Now go from the kitchen to The HomesteadBlogger Front Porch, to see an upclose look at one man's coop design which would make a beautiful home for anyone's backyard chicken flock in "This Coop Is For You!"

Nancy, The Unlikely Homesteader, tells us the story of how one thing leads to another once you get a farm in "If You Give A Family A Farm".

In "the barnyard",  SuperAngel's Horses tells how she "Cares for My Horses".  There is so much to do that it is important to have a plan to get it done. She knows that if she follows a plan, she can get it done much better when it is laid out for her.

And in the barn, Jocelyn has her goats... e-i-e-i-o. The name for the song that is sung by her goats and her dog is called "Animal Noises". She sure has a wonderful outlook on her farm life.

In "the Sewing room" Homesteading on the Mountain, tells us "You Can Have A Sewing Room". Just put it as Hobby Room, if you wish, because it can serve many purposes.

In "the Dining room", Quiverfull Acres tells us how she uses "Sitting Attentively Training" to train your littles to sit attentively and quietly so you can go all kinds of places together.  Even church services...

Blessings Along the Way gives us her "Daily Routine" of things at her homestead.

JenIG at Jeneric Jeneralities tells us how education is most effective when it is lived. Its not called education or schooling, its called "Life Learning". Her family shows us that building a green house is easy and fun when you do it with your family.

In "Around the house", Jacque, at Seeking Rest on the Homestead, explains about cloth diapering. In "How well they have worked for us" and "How do I make them", she tells how they take care of them, how inexpensive they are, how her babies are happier in them, and much more.

In "The Medicine Cabinet ", Keri Mae shares about Stinging Nettle and some cures for this stinging plant.

Thanks for joining us this week!! Hope you all gleaned a little from othe homesteaders like yourself, who just want to live "the simple life".
Make sure to tell your friends about this.
