We've been dealing with a problem for the past month. I haven't said much about it because we truly thought it would get cleared up quickly.
In the middle of November we received a letter from the revenue office that our taxes had been reassess and we owed over 2000.00 . They said our income was over 50K and we know it wasn't LOL. So we went to our accountant (it really pays to pay someone to do your taxes as they go to bat for you!) she and dh phoned the revenue office and found out some one had submitted a T4 with the wrong social insurance number. So someone else's income was showing up under dh number. We were told that they discovered the mistake the next day and had already started the paper work to fix it. That because of the payment periods all of our checks (monthly tax refunds, baby bonus ect.) might be mucked up for the month of January. But that it was in the process of being fixed.
This Monday we received two notices in the mail. One was a bill from the GST tax demanding payment because of our income recalculation and the other was a notice of our baby bonus being cut waay back around 20.00 a month. We weren't sure if this was just the trail of paper work starting and they would be sending out a new notice in a few days about it being fixed...So we got a hold of the acountant. Dh met with her today and boy is this all messed up!!
It turns out what has happened is the company dh used to work for FIVE years ago was bought out and changed names and also switched payroll . They also had someone with the same name working working for them that started 3 years ago. When they switched payment processor this is some how were the mix up has happened. Some one at the new processor has put the Andy that works for that company down with my dh social insurance number!
The problem is all the government offices are dragging there feet getting this fixed and although it was possible that we could have had a check sent out to us to day, because revenue recognized the mistake. There was a SECOND t4 submitted just after the first one that was also an error! So until it's cleared up they wont do anything except send us some silly form to fill out.
They got a hold of the payment processor who's secretary was very apologetic and said she'd get right on the problem...But this might drag on for months it's so hard to say! In the mean times our bills still need to be paid and right before Christmas this really hurts.
Thankfully my pantry is well stocked and we will be ok for a while that way. We will have to use credit to pay our bills this month and maybe next month to. But we can't do that very long...
Please pray that the Lord can help this to be fixed quickly and to his Glory.
There are other people who could be hurting from this as well. We don't know how it's affected the other person who's income is being submitted under our numbers or how the company might come down on the clerk who's made the mistake at the payment processors. We don't want anyone to be hurt we just need this problem solved...
